HARNESS Utilising solar energy to save money
Why consider solar? No control over ever rising electricity prices Electricity costs have doubled over the last 10 years* What will your electricity bill be in another 10 years? Do you want to rely on fossil fuels? * Data provided by the UK Department For Energy & Climate Change (DECC)
Take responsibility and generate your own cleaner, greener, cheaper electricity with REI
About us REI was established in 2011 We fund, develop, monitor and manage an estate of commercial and residential electricity generating solar PV systems across the UK Our board and management comprise two key areas of expertise and experience: financial and investment markets and sectors solar PV installations (over 1,000 to date) We help businesses achieve long-term reductions to their ever increasing electricity costs by enabling them to generate their own clean, green electricity from solar energy. For Free.
POWER Solar Photovoltaic (PV)
What is Solar Photovoltaic? Solar Photovoltaic (PV) refers to the science of converting sunlight to electrical energy A solar PV cell is a type of a solar photovoltaic device Solar PV panels are groups of solar PV cells connected electrically within a frame
How a solar PV system works Solar PV panels INVERTER SOLAR PV METER Buy from the grid GRID METER DISTRIBUTION UNIT Business electrical demand
Why solar PV makes sense Generates power for your premises Lowers your operating costs through reduced energy bills Controls against ever increasing electricity bills Demonstrates your commitment to the environment
REI provides a fully-funded turn-key solar PV service from initial enquiry through to installation, monitoring and on-going maintenance.
FLEXIBLE How our schemes work
How it works 1 You agree to lease the airspace above your roof for 20 years 2 We install our solar PV system onto your roof, free of charge * 3 We monitor, maintain and insure the system for 20 years, at no cost to you * We receive a payment from the Government under the Feed-in Tariff Scheme that was established to incentivise the deployment of renewable energy technologies
How do you benefit? The benefit you receive will depend on your choice of our two funding schemes: 1 2 Free Combined
Free REI funds the entire installation of a solar PV system You receive heavily discounted electricity produced by the system via a Power Purchase Agreement * After 20 years, ownership of the system transfers to you to enjoy 100% free solar PV electricity for the remaining lifetime of the system (c.15 years) *Annual price increase linked to Retail Price Index
Combined REI funds the entire installation of a solar PV system You forward-buy * the solar PV electricity which you will consume from the system for 20 years After 20 years, ownership of the system transfers to you to continue enjoying 100% free solar PV electricity for the remaining lifetime of the system (c.15 years) * A one-time investment typically equivalent to 25% of the installation cost
Free & Combined funded comparison Funding option Free Combined Capital investment Zero Typically 25% of the installation cost Solar PV electricity Typically 50% of your current grid tariff for 20 years; free thereafter Free for the lifetime of the system Monitoring, maintenance & insurance Undertaken free of charge for 20 years Undertaken free of charge for 20 years Return on Investment n/a c. 25% - 30%
MAXIMISE Ensuring you benefit most
Suitability and eligibility Roof aspect South East - South West facing Pitched or flat roof No shading A south-facing pitched roof without shading in the south of the country provides the best setting for a solar PV system
Suitability and eligibility Roof aspect Roof & building size More than 400m 2 total building footprint Systems sized between 20kWp and 250kWp are ideal under this scheme and will typically require this minimum building footprint
Suitability and eligibility Roof aspect Roof & building size Electricity consumption On-site electricity consumption Consuming PV generated electricity on-site rather than exporting it to the grid improves the savings to your business
Suitability and eligibility Roof aspect Roof & building size Electricity consumption Planning considerations Not a listed building or in a conservation area No planning permission is likely to be required
SIMPLE The steps of installation and beyond
The installation process: Week 1 Offer accepted Heads of Terms Agreement signed whereupon we issue you with a Lease and Power Purchase Agreement
The installation process: Week 1 Offer accepted Week 4 Technical survey and permissions REI undertakes: Technical survey and system design DNO approval Structural survey Energy Performance Certificate assessment
The installation process: Week 1 Offer accepted Week 4 Technical survey and permissions Week 6 Lease & PPA Once the technical design and system specification are finalised, the Lease and Power Purchase Agreement are executed and the Lease is registered with the Land Registry
The installation process: Week 1 Offer accepted Week 4 Technical survey and permissions Week 6 Lease & PPA Week 8 Installation We install your system through our framework partnership with authorised, established and experienced contractors The installation process will take up to 5 days Minimal disruption to your business as the majority of the work is external Comprehensive warranties and guarantees cover all products and workmanship
The installation process: Week 1 Offer accepted Week 4 Technical survey and permissions Week 6 Lease & PPA Week 8 Installation Ongoing Operation & maintenance REI implements its own Operation and Maintenance (O&M) contracts to ensure reliable, long term savings are achieved REI invoices you monthly according to your exact solar PV electricity consumption
RELAX Remote monitoring
Maximised savings through monitoring Remote Monitoring System tracks live solar PV performance Local weather data supports Automatic Performance Evaluation Underperformance and faults trigger real-time alerts Quick response ensures electricity savings maximised
Monitoring Dashboard 10 minute interval recording of solar PV production and grid consumption Client log-in for bill validation grid usage solar PV usage export Wider energy management benefits Electricity usage by source Solar PV usage 61.6% 38.4% 8% 92% Grid Solar PV On-site Export
COMMITTED To quality
As we both share in the benefits from the solar PV system, it is in everyone s interest to ensure it operates effectively and in line with expectations We only use high quality equipment We partner with industry leading and accredited installation organisations We monitor the system remotely to ensure real-time performance is maintained We protect the system with comprehensive maintenance contracts and insurance cover
System specification Size of system: 30kWp CASE STUDY HAMPSHIRE GOLF CLUB Equipment: Canadian Solar Forecast Output: 27,279kWh/annum Carbon saving: 12.1 tonnes CO2e/annum Forecast 20-year saving: 86,140 Faced with increasing electricity costs, The Hampshire Golf Club, set in the Test Valley, decided to install a 30kWp system across the driving range shelter and green keeper s workshop under REI s fully funded scheme
System specification Size of system: 50kWp Equipment: Canadian Solar CASE STUDY HENDY GROUP Forecast Output: 46,890kWh/annum Carbon saving: 18.8 tonnes CO2e/annum Forecast 20-year saving: 114,000 As a company we have been keen to adopt innovative technology over the years. We are also focused on being environmentally friendly so the time seemed right to take advantage of REI s Solar Power Purchase Scheme. John Hendy, Systems & Resources Director
System specification Size of system: 150kWp Equipment: Kioto CASE STUDY WORTHS FARM Forecast Output: 132,000kWh/annum Year one performance Vs forecast: 108% Carbon saving: 52.9 tonnes CO2e/annum Worths Farm, a large arable farm in Lincolnshire, consumes a significant amount of electricity running refrigeration equipment and grain dryers, particularly over the harvest season. The 150kWp solar PV system, installed at no cost to the tenant farmer provides discounted green electricity under a Power Purchase Agreement.
What happens now? We assess the potential of your roof and gather data regarding current electricity usage and pricing We issue a proposal which summarises the benefits that you should expect to receive We provisionally allocate funds for a limited period to allow time for approval The Heads of Terms Agreement is signed as your confirmation for the installation to proceed We look forward to sharing the benefits of generating your own clean, green electricity from solar energy as soon as possible.
