On August 20th, seven area businesses will unite to host Business & Brews, part of the Business Bash series, at Murray-Fettro Funeral Home. Community Savings Bank, Corner Health Mart Pharmacy, Edgewood Manor, Murray-Fettro Funeral Home, The Linen Closet, Weller s Plumbing & Heating, Inc.; and WVNU have organized to bring you this evening of drinks, food, and fun. In addition to free refreshments, everyone who attends will be automatically entered for a chance to win one of seven baskets provided by each of the host businesses. Festivities will begin at 5pm in the parking area behind Murray-Fettro Funeral Home and will continue to 7pm. 2 2 Behind the Business: Field of Dreams Many people dream of quitting their 9-5 job in the corporate abyss to pursue something that stimulates them on a higher level. Local craftswoman and Chamber member Letty Allen did just that and has been thriving in a creative environment ever since. For 24 years Letty has been shaping and adapting the family business into something that holds true to the past while blending new ideas and styles with the classics. Many locals will remember Letty from the time she spent with her mother in their shop located in Downtown Hillsboro. The store was a hodgepodge of homer decor with used books and antiques throughout the store, and Letty specializing in framing. The store was a family affair, and Letty fondly remembers her then-toddler daughter, Lauren, taking naps in her basket on the framing room floor while she worked on framing orders. In 2000, Letty s mother retired and the store in downtown Hillsboro closed its doors. But that wasn t going to slow down Letty. She decided to move the store out to her home on Mad River Road by renovating an old chicken coop. Measuring 28x48, the old coop is now refurbished and resembles something one would find in Home & Garden. The shop, Field of Dreams, encompasses many of Letty s hobbies all in one place. While she still frames, the shop also includes re-purposed shabby chic decor. Letty commented, I want young professionals and older adults alike to be able to come into my store and find something that they like. My daughter recently moved into her own apartment and was able to furnish it using pieces from Field of Dreams. It is quality pieces at a price that won t break the bank! The store is also the home base for Paint-N- Party s which have gained popularity in recent years. For just $30 per person, Letty will buy all the necessary supplies for you and a group of friends to come and eat, drink, and paint your heart out! Or, she will bring the party to you! There is no artistic experience necessary, just the will to have a good time. Field of Dreams is a client of Grow! 3 3 This year, the Amazing Race of Highland County will feature the 2015 Business Expo! Located at the finish line, amidst all the excitement of the race, businesses will be engaging with the approximate 500 racers and spectators that come to the event. Mingle with your local community, disperse information, pass out samples, provide demonstrations, and just have fun! Booths may be reserved for $50 for Chamber members, or $75 for non-chamber members. Booth rental provides a 10 x 10 space. 4 4 175 Years Candle-Lite invited the community to celebrate 175 years on Saturday, July 25th. The historic candle-maker opened its doors for guided tours of the plant. Play Ball! Jayona Kibler represented the Highland County Chamber and Buy Local Campaign at the Highland County Night at the Reds. Business & Brews Heartland of Hillsboro, Chad Abbott Signs, and East Ambulance teamed up to host Business & Brews on July 16 at Heartland of Hillsboro. Among the festivities were Craft Beer Tastings with Larry s Party Shop, Not Your Father s Root Beer Floats, and door prizes. The event is part of the Chamber s Business Bash series.

Associate of Arts Associate of Science offered as Accelerated Programs Accelerated Study in Associate Programs Earn your degree ASAP You can shorten your time toward a degree by pursuing an AA or AS through Southern State s new accelerated program. A Degree in 18 Months A traditional associate degree program typically takes two years to complete; the accelerated option gets you to degree completion sooner. Two Evenings Per Week Classes are held Tuesday and Thursday evenings, allowing you to work around family needs and full-time job obligations. Hybrid Classes Half of the course time will be spent in a classroom setting, while the other half will be completed online through readings, activities, and discussions.
