3 Since 2009, the OROSC, has been moving the SUD service delivery system toward the transformation to a recovery oriented system of care (ROSC). 3

4 Michigan s ROSC supports an individual s journey toward recovery and wellness by creating and sustaining networks of formal and informal services and supports. The opportunities established through collaboration, partnership and a broad array of services promote life enhancing recovery and wellness for individuals, families and communities. Adopted by the ROSC Transformation Steering Committee,

5 Through the joint implementation, with mental health partners of a Recovery Policy Academy grant Bringing Recovery Support Services to Scale, OROSC is expanding Michigan s ROSC transformation efforts to engage our publically funded behavioral health care system. It is this framework that is vital for the successful integration of behavioral health and primary care. 5

7 Roles for Paraprofessionals: Coalitions are active in various substance use disorder prevention and primary care integration efforts: 7

8 Prevention Prepared Communities Coalitions in Michigan have engaged and assisted hospitals in conducting community needs assessments required for non-profit tax status. Hospital and other primary care agencies, such as Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHCs) and Teen Health Centers serve on coalition boards. 8

9 Participation in Michigan s Partnership for Success II Project Coalitions are conducting outreach and providing evidence-base prevention practices (Strengthening Families and Active Parenting for Teens) to families visiting FQHCs and Teen Health Centers. 9

10 Coalitions are also engaging community stakeholders in the development and implementation plans for preventing underage drinking and prescription drug abuse. 10

11 Participation in a Michigan SBIRT Project at a FQHC A coalition is conducting outreach activities to youth, young adults and parents in the screening process and referrals of persons to evidence-based family education programs. 11

12 Participation as recovery coaches, support specialists and navigators o Coalition members with lived experience act as recovery coaches, support specialist and support service navigators for persons in recovery interacting with primary care agencies. 12

13 Standards for Paraprofessionals: Substance Abuse Prevention Skills Training (SAPST) SAPTS Train the Trainer Session Certification by the Michigan Certification Board for Addiction Professionals or the International Certification & Reciprocity Consortium 13

14 o Certified Prevention Specialist (Required for funding) o Certified Prevention Consultant o Registered Development Plan for Prevention Certification o Certified Recovery Coach/Mentor Michigan only 14

15 Certification through the National Commission for Health Education Credentialing Certified Health Education Specialist Certificate of Completion of the Connecticut Community for Addiction Recovery Coach Academy 15

16 Roles for Peers: Peers are employed to provide recovery support, coaching and mentoring to persons with co-occurring mental health and chronic physical health disorders. Integrated venues where peer support is performed include wellness stations at community mental health programs, hospitals, ERs and FQHCs. 16

17 Peer Recovery Support Services Mental Health Disorders Peer Recovery Support Specialists Integrated Health Initiatives: Assist in leading wellness and education groups, assisting health mentors, assist in the person centered planning process and Personal Action Toward Health (PATH) facilitation, provide support and assistance to persons during their visits to emergency rooms, makes calls on the person s behalf. 17

18 Peer Recovery Support Services Substance Use Disorders Peer Recovery Coaches and Mentors SBIRT Project: Provide pre-screening activity; assist in removing barriers to treatment and recovery; making follow-up calls after intervention and referral; providing transportation to treatment and recovery centers and medical appointments; connecting persons in treatment and recovery to needed resources. 18

19 Standards for Peers: Certification by the Michigan Certification Board for Addiction Professionals or the International Certification & Reciprocity Consortium 19
