2 The law school strives to provide a high quality legal education through an affordable, part-time program. Founded in 1969 to provide an opportunity for individuals of all ages, backgrounds, and life experiences to enter the legal profession the law school seeks to develop graduates who will be competent practitioners dedicated to the high level of ethics, professional responsibility and civic duty society expects of lawyers. Through the years, our gift-giving program has helped students achieve their lifelong dream. Throughout the years, The Santa Barbara and Venture Colleges of Law has provided outstanding legal education to our community. The first thing you ll probably notice is that we re a different kind of law school, one specifically designed to meet the needs of working adults. Whether our students enroll directly from college or after years away from academic life, they re here because they aspire to study law without getting off track financially. Our unique program makes that possible. We re proud to provide a top-notch legal education in a regional setting-one that allows students to blend their educational pursuits with other important lifestyle commitments. We conduct classes in a collegial learning environment to foster confident, practice-ready graduates who will serve their clients and their communities with the highest degree of integrity. Our graduates earn either a Master of Legal Studies or a Juris Doctor degree, the latter making them academically eligible to sit for the California Bar Examination. They re well prepared to succeed no matter how they choose to use their education-in private practice, government service or business. The vibrancy of our program is reflected in our 1,700+ alumni, including judges, court commissioners, elected officials and many hundreds of lawyers who practice throughout the state. 3 Scholarship Support A unique law curriculum tailored to the working adult. Our professors are practicing attorneys and judges who draw upon their personal experience and expertise to help students grasp the practical implications of abstract legal theory, develop effective strategies for decision-making and acquire skills in negotiation and practical communications in a small class mentored environment. All at about half the cost of a traditional law school. We need your help. Our students must have an academic mindset that only the freedom from day-to-day financial burdens can provide. For 45 years scholarships have assisted our students in 45 receiving an affordable, quality legal education. 100% of your donations will go directly to our students. 4 Academic Support Why The Colleges of Law has been non-profit from the start. Our goal has been single-minded from the beginning. To provide a rich, practical learning environment for working adults who seek either to practice law itself, or bring their legal expertise to such related fields as accounting, education, health care, engineering, forensics or business management. Real-world practicality. It s just that simple. We created two curriculums that do just that. Our Juris Doctor Program is designed for students who intend to practice law or pursue a doctorate. More recently, we added our Master of Legal Studies Program. It s designed for students in law related fields who wish to augment their area of expertise with effective, authoritative, practical legal insights that make their professional contribution truly invaluable. None of this can happen without your help and support. 5 Ways to Support The Colleges of Law IRA Gifts: The Tax Relief, Unemployment Insurance Authorization, and Job Creation Act of 2010 has renewed the option for charitable IRA rollover.
