As I considered where I would invest my time and money in continuing my professional development, Sydney Business School stuck out as presenting the best Executive MBA at the best value. I would recommend this program to anyone aspiring to senior leadership roles in business. Nhu Thi Cam Ho Graduate I came to study with Sydney Business School not only because of the scholarship I was awarded but also because of the school s reputation and that of the city of Wollongong. Sydney Business School was the best choice I could have made for my overseas study. I majored in International Finance back in Vietnam and I wanted to work in a multinational environment, so I decided to study abroad to brighten my career. Studying International Business at Sydney Business School has given me a lot of opportunities to gain broader knowledge. The school has great lecturers and supportive staff who helped me in dealing with assignments and exams, which had to be done entirely in English and in different styles to what I had done previously. The campus is amazing and provides you with easy access to all the facilities. I have also made friends with students from a variety of countries whom I can learn from and share experiences with. I believe that my time studying at Sydney Business School will prove a great asset in my future where I can find myself as a global citizen. 10 sydney business school

14 David Bickett Principal, Mind Fusion The Sydney Business School Master of Business Coaching degree has assisted my career not only as a business coach, but also as an integral enhancement to my own business development capabilities. This is a direct result of applying the key skills I learnt, including deep listening, more effective questioning, and increased awareness. Applying a more humanistic coaching approach to clients and teams increased my effectiveness in strategic international business negotiations and subsequently supported the progress of my career toward senior management level coaching and negotiation, including C level managers and boards. Arush Kumarage Graduate Sydney Business School is one of the leading business schools in Australia and the Master of Science Logistics program is highly acclaimed both by academics and industry professionals. Since I was keen to further pursue my studies abroad, Sydney Business School fitted right into my requirements and has exceeded my expectations over the course of the last year. The learning experience has been beyond textbooks and technical knowledge. Within one year, the Master of Science Logistics program covered the primary subject areas of logistics and supply chain management, while discussions with lecturers and fellow students broadened my knowledge and understanding. The experience of studying at Sydney Business School provided many opportunities and cocurriculum experiences in terms of cultural, educational and career. The most exciting element of my study was the interaction and networking with other students and like-minded business professionals, as well the formation of lifelong friendships and business contacts. Not only has the Masters provided me with the knowledge and skills to enter into the industry, the many opportunities presented during my course have led to numerous avenues of career progression. Jing Zhang - Telstra I chose to study at UOW for its quiet and beautiful location. The campus is set in such a natural environment, which is very rare in China. The beaches and coastlines are very beautiful here, I enjoyed spending my time going out visiting these places. In addition, the free shuttle bus is very convenient. My degree gave me the opportunity to immigrate and stay in Australia and work as a professional accountant, which is what I am interested in. It also gave me the chance to study and live in another country. I find myself feeling happy and comfortable staying here, no matter whether I m studying or working. Besides studying, I participated in a number of other activities. I liked playing badminton in university clubs, staying fit using school gyms and pool. Also, I attended some events organised by International Student Program (ISP), including a trip to Canberra. Other activities I did included ICIS s English conversion group, the GWP subject, and some internship type projects conducting marketing practices in Huskisson. These programs and activities helped me engage with Australian lifestyle and culture, and I think they were useful for preparing me to work and stay in Australia. 11

36 research programs 33

37 We have a number of research programs to suit your career plans and circumstances, including Doctor of Philosophy, Doctor of Philosophy (Integrated), Doctor of Business Administration and Masters of Philosophy. For detailed information on course duration, entry requirements and intakes, please visit business.uow.edu.au/research Doctor of Business Administration The Doctor of Business Administration (DBA) is an advanced postgraduate research degree focussing on professional business issues to provide experienced managers with research skills. The DBA provides a framework that will enable participants to expand their knowledge in one or more business areas. The course is designed to build on the existing strengths of the participants and provide a formal educational opportunity for them to develop advanced business research skills, and gain a competitive advantage in business. Doctor of Philosophy CRICOS Code: K Candidates with demonstrated research potential exhibited usually by a Bachelor Honours, Masters by Research degree or other Masters degree that includes a research project can apply for admissions to the Doctor of Philosophy. Candidates will be expected to work under supervision on research projects related to their thesis area and may be required to complete coursework classes in order to acquire theory and develop methodological skills necessary for their doctoral research. Each PhD candidate has two supervisors. 34 sydney business school

38 Doctor of Philosophy (Integrated) CRICOS Code: J The Doctor of Philosophy (Integrated) is a four-year research degree that incorporates a traditional three-year PhD thesis with one year of coursework subjects, combining generic research training and discipline-specific content into a single degree. The coursework, which is undertaken in the first year of the degree, is made up of research training skills and individual coursework subjects. International students intending to become university researchers and teachers in their home country will benefit from exposure to Australian teaching methods through these subjects. The research component is the same as for the three-year PhD program and leads to the production of a written thesis, which involves a significant contribution to a field of knowledge. In order to progress to the research component, PhD Integrated students must complete the first year with an average of 65%, including 65% in each research training skills subject. Students progressing to the research component will have developed their specific research topic before commencing the research component. Master of Philosophy CRICOS Code: M The Master of Philosophy provides advanced business research skills through structured learning and independent research. Students are able to select a research topic from a diverse and extended range of business related disciplines. 35
