3 Introduction With decades of experience in the industry, our retirement plan clients range from start-ups to publicly-owned corporations. While plans can look very different, the need for professional oversight, ongoing employee education, and regular plan reviews remains constant. The biggest concerns that Plan Sponsors face today are: Fiduciary Liability Total Plan Costs Employee Education Plan Design limitations Payroll/Recordkeeping Burden
4 Fiduciary Responsibility Fiduciary liability is easily the largest concern amongst Plan Sponsors in today s environment. Ultimately, that responsibility can never be completely delegated. With the proper process in place, however, the risk of legal action or a negative outcome can be greatly reduced. As a resource for our clients, retirement plan expertise will be shared on the following subjects to assist retirement plan sponsors: Investment Policy Statements Pension Protection Act provisions ERISA 404(c) Compliance QDIA selection and oversight Investment Selection Please note that meeting any fiduciary requirements is the responsibility of the plan sponsor. 6 Plan Design We will work with you to identify your retirement plan goals and help choose the type of plan that accomplishes those goals based on your company s size, demographics, and cash flow restraints. Choosing the right type of plan for your employees will enhance employee participation while providing optimal cost and flexibility for the employer. Choosing the wrong type of plan can create expensive recordkeeping mistakes, disgruntled participants, and increased cost due to lack of participation.
7 Provider Selection With no proprietary retirement plan platform, we are able to search the marketplace for the providers that best fit our clients needs for flexibility, low cost, and service. We can offer retirement plan platforms from some of the country s largest and well known providers.
8 Total Plan Cost The Retirement Plan marketplace has changed dramatically over the past decade. Competition has driven plan costs down and transparency up. Identifying fees within a company s retirement plan is a crucial first step to identifying a provider with the lowest total plan costs. This includes analysis of: Group Annuity unit charges Variable Asset Charges Market Value Adjustments Mutual Fund Share Classes Asset Based Wrap Fees Participant-based Provider fees Plan Administration (TPA) fees
9 Plan Installation We work closely with the Plan Provider and you to make the initial rollout or plan change as quick and painless as possible for you and your employees. This includes oversight of investment options selected, communication between Human Resources personnel and Provider Conversion Teams, and presentation of the new plan to participants at an onsite rollout meeting.
10 Employee Education Our communication program will include monthly or quarterly newsletters to employees. In addition to this, we will facilitate semi-annual or annual onsite financial education seminars on various financial planning concepts, catering to the employee s financial interests and needs. An underutilized plan can be a drain on company resources and an opportunity lost for plan participants. Through education and communication, we do our best to raise awareness and enthusiasm around this employee benefit.
11 Plan Review We will maintain contact with the Plan Provider service team to ensure successful compliance testing and plan valuations. We also facilitate ongoing review of the plan s investment options with the Plan Sponsor through an established Investment Policy Statement, and we will meet with the Plan Sponsor annually face-to-face to provide ongoing updates on the plan while constantly monitoring the plan and your needs to see if any changes should be made.
