Google Docs (16 hour course) Prerequisite: None Google Docs is a free Web-based application in which documents and spreadsheets can be created, edited and stored online. Files can be accessed from any computer with an Internet connection and a fullfeatured Web browser. Users of Google Docs can import, create, edit and update documents and spreadsheets in various fonts and file formats, combining text with formulas, lists, tables and images. Google Docs is compatible with most presentation software and word processors. Students will learn: all about Google Drive getting started with Google Drive creating Google documents uploading files to Google Drive managing files how to share and collaborate how to convert and print documents Introduction to Computing (16 hour course) Prerequisite: None Jobs today require you to know how to use a computer. QuickBooks 2013 Basic (16 hour course) Prerequisites: Introduction to Computers or basic computer knowledge QuickBooks is a small business accounting package that organizes and tracks finances in one place. Quick- Books displays a snapshot of business information, prints checks, issues purchase orders, tracks inventory, pays employees and bills customers. Students will learn how to : generate and interpret business reports to gain business insight on financial, customer, vendor, product, and employee information bank with QuickBooks 8

This course will go beyond the basic introductory concepts. Students will learn how to: manage vendors and pay bills track inventory run payroll use QuickBooks Reports perform QuickBooks maintenance QuickBooks 2013 Advanced (16 hour course) Prerequisites: MS QuickBooks Intermediate workshop OR equivalent experience. The QuickBooks 2013 Advanced course will provide an opportunity for hands-on practice of the software fundamentals introduced in the Basic and Intermediate courses. Students will navigate the software to accomplish common business tasks and work independently to complete exercises using sample business scenarios. In this course, you will explore preferences, troubleshooting, and core functions of the software. Landing the perfect job can be a challenge but just a little preparation and thought ahead of time can have wondrous effects on your interviewing skills. 11 Job Readiness Courses (cont d) Job Search Emergency Kit (16 hour course) This is an intensive two day job readiness package. You must sign up for both days. Prerequisites: None. Part I. Resume Development In this workshop you will learn the basics of resume development including the purpose of a resume; how to organize your expertise; components of effective resumes and techniques to stand above the competition. Students will receive answers to specific questions from an experienced career consultant. Part II. Networking While social networking may be all the rage, it doesn t beat the power of a face-to-face conversation. So you need to walk away from the computer and get out of the house! Networking allows you to advertise your enthusiasm, curiosity, and ability to listen. Doing so with a positive can do attitude projects a powerful image of you as someone who can easily communicate one-on-one and work side-by-side in a team environment. In this lively workshop you will learn skills and tools that improve the effectiveness of your networking and job related conversations. Develop a conversation opener, transitional statement and a success story. Topics include the 60 second elevator pitch, targeting employers, informational Part III. Interview Skills In this workshop participants gain an understanding of the hiring agenda and how to make the right first impression with a potential new employer. The basic components of what to do before, during and after the interview are covered in detail. Participants learn how to research in advance, prepare mentally and emotionally, communicate with confidence, handle tough questions and conduct appropriate follow up. Whether you re trying to land the perfect job or you are in need of professional referrals you ll want a strong network. Networking is not a mere exchange of business cards at a cocktail party nor is it bragging about yourself or begging for help from people you barely know. Networking is building relationships on the basis of trust that involves a give and take. Students will learn how: to develop lasting relationships formulate the perfect elevator speech target professionals networks take advantage of social media as a tool to market yourself Resume Development/Lab (6 hour course) Prerequisites: Basic computer knowledge as well as successful completion of MS Word Basic workshop or equivalent experience. You must also bring a PRINTED HARD COPY of your resume and have an ELECTRONIC SOFT COPY readily available either on a FLASH DRIVE or your OWN address, otherwise you may be asked to leave. One of the most important and intimidating steps in the job search process is writing a solid resume that gets the attention you want and need. Unfortunately, many job seekers get overwhelmed before they even get started. Today, resumes must appeal to potential employers while also being optimized for the electronic age. Whether you are handing a resume over in person or are ing an electronic copy to be added to an online database, the words you use and the formatting you choose will make a big difference in whether or not you get that interview. 14 Industry Specific Courses (cont d) Bookkeeping and Accounting Basic (20 hour course) Prerequisites: Basic computer knowledge and MS Excel experience required. In this workshop you will be introduced to concepts, terminology and practices of basic bookkeeping. You will learn how documents such as invoices, purchase orders, receipts, bank deposit slips and pay checks represent transactions that help companies maintain control and improve performance. Students will learn: the accounting equation: Assets = Liabilities + Equity cash basis accounting versus accrual accounting basic accounting terminology and concepts elements of the balance sheet and profit and loss statement the difference between customers, vendors, and employees purchase orders, invoices, receipts, and checks computerized accounting Bookkeeping and Accounting Intermediate (20 hour course) Prerequisites: Basic computer knowledge, MS Excel experience and Bookkeeping and Accounting Basic.
