The college is fully committed to making reasonable accommodations for learning disabled students. Students receiving Supportive Learning Services may elect to participate in the regular college curriculum. This program has been in existence since 1977 and serves more than 100 undergraduates each semester. Anna Maria College 50 Sunset Lane Paxton, MA Anna Maria College is a liberal arts college. The Learning Center in Trinity Hall offers academic support to all undergraduate students at AMC. Any student desiring extra assistance can come to the Learning Center and request a tutor. Although AMC does not have a special program for disabled students, the college does offer individual support through accommodations, modifications and learning assistance. Students with disabilities should contact the center to coordinate services before the semester begins. Beacon College 105 East Main Street Leesburg, FL Beacon College is a college for students with learning disabilities. The college provides educational opportunities for students with learning differences. Class sizes average students and all instructors have masters or doctorates. Support services include academic mentors who are professionals with degrees or training in learning disabilities, one on one academic mentoring, student lead study groups, and a writing center. Benjamin Franklin Institute of Technology 41 Berkeley Street Boston, MA The Academic Support Center at BFIT supports students through direct academic support. Tutoring is available as well as overall study skills assistance. The walk in and user friendly format of the Center makes it a popular destination for students and faculty. The Department of Academic Development offers a range of courses for students needing additional preparation for the academics required in the pursuit of a college degree at BFIT. Courses focus on the development of specific academic skills and content required for success in engineering and industrial technologies. 2

3 Bunker Hill Community College 250 New Rutherford Avenue Boston, MA The Division of Academic Support and College Pathway Program offers many programs and supports, including the Center for Self Directed Learning, Tutoring and Academic Support Center, and the Student Success Program. They offer traditional and non traditional resources as well as group and individual learning experiences. Cape Cod Community College 2240 Iyanough Road West Barnstable, MA The O Neil Center provides support services to qualified students with disabilities, both in and out of the classroom. Staff work with students with a wide range of disabilities from the obvious to the hidden. Services through the O Neil Center include: development of a support services plan, distraction reduced test taking sites, support groups, reading/taping and note taker services, and much more. The O Neil Center s computer lab offers a wide range of specialized computer and auxiliary aids that include assistive listening systems, tape recorders, large print enhancements, reading machines, voice recognition programs, and technology training. Castleton State College Admission Office 86 Seminary Drive Castleton, VT Castleton is small liberal arts school that offers bachelor s degrees in 30 different majors. The school environment provides small classes, and faculty give individual attention to their students. Student services provided by the Academic Support Center include: 1:1 academic counseling, tutoring, study skills assistance, and a summer transition program. Colby Sawyer College 541 Main Street New London, NH This college provides programs of study that integrate liberal arts and sciences with professional preparation. The Academic Development Center offers educational support to all full time Colby Sawyer students. The Center provides individualized writing consultation, mentoring, and study skills and content area tutoring to students. 3

4 Dean College 99 Main Street Franklin, MA TRY DEAN Dean, a liberal arts school, offers the Center for Learning. The Center provides a comprehensive spectrum of learning services designed to meet the needs of a diverse student population. The Arch Program provides comprehensive academic tutoring to support the regular college classes. Endicott College 376 Hale Street Beverly, MA Endicott College offers small classes, usually no larger than 25 students per class. Business, marketing, park and recreation, communication, visual performing arts, health sciences, security and protective services are among the most popular majors. Student services provide academic support through tutoring and the writing center. Also, they provide accommodations such as a reduced course load, extended time testing, and note takers. Fisher College 118 Beacon Street Boston, MA The Fisher College Academic Center for Enrichment (ACE) helps students to become independent learners. ACE offers professional tutoring, tutors who have a master s degree or higher in the area they tutor, workshops, and quiet areas where students study and take exams. Johnson and Wales University 8 Abbott Park Place Providence, RI Johnson & Wales unique educational approach is designed to help you acquire the knowledge, hands on skills and industry driven work experience to excel. Johnson and Wales is dedicated to providing reasonable accommodations to allow learning disabled, physically disabled and other challenged students to succeed in academic pursuits. The most notable vocational programs are those in hospitality and culinary arts. Students will graduate with a bachelor s of science or arts degree. Students can also earn an Associate s Degree in Technology and Culinary Arts. Landmark College 1 River Road South Putney, VT

5 Located in rural Vermont, Landmark College is for students with ADHD, Autism Spectrum Disorders, and/or a Learning Disability. They have four different entry points; these include the Language Intensive Curriculum, Executive Function Curriculum, Partial Credit Curriculum, and Credit Curriculum. Students graduate with an associate s degree in arts degree in liberal arts, General Studies, Business Studies, or Business Administration. The Drake Academic Support Center provides assistance with reading, writing, and study skills. There is also a Science Support Center and a Math Support Center. Technology Learning Services can help students take advantage of the array of assistive technologies available to students with AD/HD and LD. Coaching Services can provide ongoing strategies and support for students with executive function difficulties, ADHD, and Learning Disabilities. Lasell College Admissions Hamel Visitor Center 221 Woodland Road Newton, MA Lasell College is a coeducational college that offers bachelors and master s degrees in majors such as Business, Criminal Justice, Fashion, Graphic Design, and Human Services. The Academic Achievement Center offers free academic support services, and students are able to stop by during business hours or by appointment. Lyndon State College P.O. Box 919 Lyndonville, VT Located in rural Vermont, Lyndon State provides hands on learning experiences along with the traditional academic courses to provide thorough and well balanced career preparation. Bachelors and associates programs are offered in areas such as the visual and performing arts, education, social sciences, computer science, and exercise science. Academic support services include peer and professional tutoring, academic counseling, a math resources center, time management and organization support, and a writing center. Lynn University 3601 North Military Trail Boca Raton, FL or The Institute for Achievement and Learning at Lynn offers the following programs and services: Heller Family Diagnostic Center, Comprehensive Support Program, and the Metamorphosis Coaching Program. The Heller Family Diagnostic Center provides tutoring to all students. Tutors work with students individually and in groups. The Comprehensive Support Program provides extensive academic support for students who face learning challenges. The program includes unlimited tutoring, extended time for exams, a distraction reduced test center, and specialized sections designed for non traditional learners. The Metamorphosis Coaching Program is designed specifically for students with executive functioning difficulties. The program offers weekly individual coaching sessions, 15 one on one tutoring sessions, and weekly experiential activities. 5

6 Manhattanville College 2900 Purchase Road Purchase, NY This college provides assistance through the Academic Resource Center (ARC), which offers academic support free of charge to all Manhattanville students in a variety of subjects and skills at all levels of the curriculum. Students participate in regular college classes and through the ARC receive help, individually and in groups. The ARC has full time professional instructors in writing, mathematics and study strategies, as well as part time tutors in specific courses. In addition, the ARC can advocate with the college faculty for students with special needs. Massachusetts Bay Community College 50 Oakland Road Wellesley, MA Mass Bay provides professional and peer tutoring in reading/study skills, writing, all levels of math, science, and many other subject areas at the Academic Achievement Center (AAC) on the Wellesley and Framingham campuses. The Academic Achievement Center offers lab based courses and supplements classroom instruction with one on one support to accommodate a variety of diverse learning styles. This is a two year or certificate program with MCAS tutorial, academic, and vocational skills taught in college level courses with support. Middlesex Community College 591 Springs Road Bedford, MA The collegiate experience at Middlesex, on the campus and in the classroom, is open to students of varying abilities and levels of adaptive skills. The college offers both certificate and associates degree programs. The Disabilities Support Services office provides services and resources to empower each student to attain his/her highest level of academic success and learning independence. Mitchell College 437 Pequot Avenue New London, CT Mitchell College is a liberal arts school with associates and bachelor degree programs. Learning Resource Center (LRC) provides a network of academic support services for students with diagnosed learning disabilities and/or ADD/ADHD and other related disabilities. Because each Mitchell student has his or her own unique set of academic strengths and weaknesses, the LRC program addresses each participant on an individual basis. LRC classes are included in students' schedules to ensure greater success. 6

Many majors are available with opportunities to interact in internships. Pathways Academic Support Services provides NEC students with comprehensive academic support services that focus on individualized student attention and meaningful academic support. Pathways includes academic advising, a mentoring program, a tutoring center staffed by professional tutors, career and life planning, and disability services. New England Institute of Art 10 Brookline Place West Brookline, MA Comprehensive and technical training offered in Advertising, Media Arts and Animation, Audio Production, Fashion and Retail Management, and Graphic Design. The Academic Achievement Center provides support from a peer tutor in many subject areas and can also assist students who need additional help with test taking strategies, time management and other academic issues. If specialized support in reading, writing, math or study strategies is required, the student may meet with an Academic Advisor. New England Culinary Institute 56 College Street Montpelier, VT The New England Culinary Institute is a private co educational school with campuses in Montpelier and Essex Junction, VT. NECI provides small classes with a student to teacher ratio of 10:1. Students take one hands on, 15 week course per term. The school reports that academic and vocational tutoring is available on an as needed basis by both peers and professional staff. New England Institute of Technology 2500 Post Road Warwick, RI New England Institute of Technology is a private, non profit technical college offering associate and bachelor of science degrees in 28 different program areas. Students learn through hands on laboratory and classroom training to provide them the necessary skills to begin their technical careers. The Academic Skills Center provides 1 to 1 tutoring by professionals in areas such as writing, reading, math, study skills, and class presentations. 7

8 Newbury College 129 Fisher Avenue Brookline, MA The Academic Resource Center offers a range of services, including the Academic Enrichment Program and the Discovery Project, to help students achieve academic and personal goals. The Center staff includes the Associate Dean for Academic Services, academic counselors, several faculty members, and trained student tutors. The Center staff reports that students who consistently use their services have a better chance for success. Each semester they work with students with physical or learning disabilities. Accommodation and services may include reduced course load, extended time/alternative readers and scribes, individual proctoring of exams, and learning strategies. Northern Essex Community College 100 Elliot Street Haverhill, MA NECC is a public, two year college that offers comprehensive programs of study leading to an Associate in Arts degree, Associate in Science degree, and Certificates of Program Completion. NECC offers a variety of academic support services designed to help students succeed throughout their academic studies. The Developmental Education area addresses the needs of students who enter the college with skill deficits. This area includes the Department of Developmental Studies and four learning centers. All of these centers provide individualized support for the students enrolled in the developmental courses. The focus in each is learner centered and holistic. All students at the college are encouraged to use these centers on a drop in basis. Academic tutoring is provided on a walk in and by appointment schedule. North Shore Community College 1 Ferncroft Road Danvers, MA NSCC is a public, two year college that offers comprehensive programs of study leading to various options of associate degrees, certificates, and noncredited programs. NSCC has academic support on each of its campuses to allow students to access the curriculum Pine Manor College 400 Heath Street Chestnut Hill, MA The Brown Learning Resource Center is an academic support center open to all students. Staffed by professional full time tutors, the Center offers individual tutoring in writing, mathematics, reading, study skills, and time management. The Learning Resource Center also provides guidance, academic skills assistance, and test taking accommodations for students with documented disabilities. Students with disabilities consult with the Director of the Learning Resource Center about their need for accommodations. 8

9 Quincy College President s Place 1250 Hancock Street Quincy, MA Quincy College provides quality, affordable associate degrees, as well as non credit and certification programs. They have over 4,000 students enrolled in programs ranging from Business Administration and Computer Science to Fine Arts and Nursing. The Learning Center is to help students from all backgrounds reach their academic goals by helping them become better learners. The center features computer terminals at which students can access tutorials and learning software to improve skills in a variety of subjects. Both peer and professional tutors offer one on one tutoring and small group tutoring in most subject areas, as well as writing skills, reading comprehension, study skill strategies, time management, and note taking, Quinsigamond Community College 670 Boylston Street Worcester, MA QCC offers over 50 associate s and certificate programs in the areas of Business, Engineering, Health Care, Human Services, Liberal Arts and General Study. Disability Support Services are provided through the Individualized Learning Center. Tutors are professionals as well as peer tutors. The Math Center supports students in their mathematics courses through tutors and math specific software. Reasonable accommodations for students are determined on an individual basis. Southern New Hampshire University 2500 North River Street Manchester, NH Southern New Hampshire University, formerly New Hampshire College, is a private University that offers more than 35 majors in business, education, hospitality, and liberal studies. There are programs for academic remediation. Academic support services include professional peer support and supplemental instructional labs. Southern Vermont College 982 Mansion Drive Bennington, VT The Success Center offers free services to students. They offer peer tutors, study groups, workshops and a writing center staffed by peer writing tutors. The Learning Differences Support Program provides services for students with disabilities by providing accommodations and services. These include regularly scheduled tutorial sessions, content area academic support, study strategies and academic course pre advising. 9

The specific program that one would contact would depend on the nature of the disability. The programs most directly involved with students are listed as follows: disability services, psychological disability services, assistive technologies center. Chapel Haven 1040 Whalley Avenue New Haven, CT Transition Programs Structured Environment: academic and transition services included in daily schedule Chapel Haven is a non profit agency offering a wide range of programs including Residential, Education, Supported Living, Employment, Recreation, Bridge and Community Life Program. The Asperger s Transition program is designed to help in the transition to an independent life. The residential program offers one on one support in all skill areas, including life skills and living with roommates. College Internship Program 18 Park Street Lee, MA The goal of the College Internship Program is to empower each student to gain the self esteem necessary to complete college and/or attain gainful employment. Students are also tasked with managing the appropriate life skills and finances to become as independent as possible. Students live in a semi independent dormitory and can take courses at the Berkshire Community College if they choose. Accommodations offered for learning accepted students include an alternate test taking site, a scribe, use of a calculator, extra time, a reader, and other accommodations that your high school IEP might indicate. College Living Experience 7150 Columbia Gateway, Suite J Columbia, MD College Living Experience is a post secondary program for students who require additional assistance to attend college and become more independent. There are several locations: TX, FL, CA, IL, CO, and Washington D.C. Students receive ongoing support from academic advisors, tutors, residential advisors, psychologists, mentors and peers. The College Living Experience population includes spectrum disorders, dyslexia, ADD/ADHD and students with social and emotional maturation issues. 10

11 Lesley Threshold Program 29 Everett Street Cambridge, MA The Threshold Program is a comprehensive, non degree campus based program at Lesley University for highly motivated young adults with diverse learning disabilities and other special needs. All are clearly interested in careers in one of the vocational fields of study: business services, early childhood studies, and human services and all have a strong desire to become independent adults. Threshold students are high school graduates who typically have received extensive special services in either private or public schools. Maplebrook School 5142 Route 22 Amenia, NY The C.A.P.S Program at Maplebrook (Center for the Advancement of Post Secondary Studies) is a program based on students who successfully complete the goals and objectives designed to prepare students for integration into today s world. Some C.A.P.S. students pursue collegiate studies while others strive for a vocational certificate in areas such as preschool/daycare, business and office training, food service, and teacher aide/teacher assistant. C.A.P.S. includes two distinct college components in which students can either take courses for credit at nearby Dutchess Community College (D.C.C.) or they may attend credit free courses at D.C.C. The residential program at C.A.P.S. provides support in independent living and includes a social environment. Middlesex Transition Program 591 Springs Road Bedford, MA The Transition Program, designed expressly for students with significant learning disabilities, is also part of the Disability Support Services Office. This twoyear certificate program teaches consumer and business skills, independent living, and personal and social development. The cornerstone of the program is an internship each semester in local business settings. It is a particularly successful educational experience for students who would have difficulty meeting the academic/cognitive demands of standard college. New York Institute of Technology Vocational Independence Program Central Islip, NY The Vocational Independence Program is divided into four parts: academics, social development, vocational skills, and independent living. The curriculum is competency based and students are placed in classes according to their ability. The goal of the academic program is to broaden the student s prospective of the world and the role they play. The Independent Living Skills provide a 2:1 student/staff ratio. The Vocational program exposes students to various career options through lectures, workshops and on the job experience. Students have weekly and as needed counseling sessions. 11

12 North Shore Community College Bridge To The Future 1 Ferncroft Road Danvers, MA (978) Bridge to the Future is a one year, non credit program for students with intellectual, developmental, or learning disabilities. Classes focus on two main areas: communication skills and independent living/workforce skills. The course of study will include vocational skill building and intellectual challenges such as Reading and Writing, Personal Success Seminar, Current Events and Career Planning. The program includes skill building in the areas of computer technology, accessing public transportation, and navigating a college campus and the community. For more information, visit: Project Forward 2240 Iyanough Road West Barnstable, MA Based on the Cape Cod Community College Campus, Project Forward is a vocational training skills program for students with significant learning difficulties. The goal of the program is for students to increase vocational skills for increased independent living, improve communication skills, improves self awareness and self advocacy skills, relate to others in constructive ways, and to show a motivated and responsible attitude toward work. Vocational concentrations include food preparation, animal care, childcare, maintenance and landscaping, mass communications, and information technology. Riverview School 551 Route 6A East Sandwich, MA Riverview is a co educational, residential school that services approximately 180 students. The Getting Ready for the Outside World (G.R.O.W.) program is a 10 month, post secondary program that is designed to help students with skills that will assist them in being more independent. Riverview provides a structured, supportive residential environment in order to encourage independence, living and social skills and self esteem. 13 Thames Academy is a year of academic preparation that students take between the end of their secondary school/high school education and the start of their college studies. Thames Academy at Mitchell College also provides college level courses for credit. Located on the Mitchell College campus, the Academy provides a highly structured residential program within a college environment and interaction with two year and four year students. Students who complete this transitional year will have already obtained their high school diploma and are of college age. Vista Vocational and Life Skills Center 1356 Old Clinton Road Westbrook, CT Vista is a community based educational program for young adults with neurological disabilities. They offer vocational training, life skills instruction, counseling and support services designed to enable students to succeed in work and to live independently. Their mission is to provide hands on training in vocational and life skills. Program counselors and job developers help students find training positions and paid employment. Job coaches help students acquire appropriate work skills and learn the social requirements necessary for competitive employment. Vista's life skills instructors also teach Independent living skills. 14 Empire Beauty School 624 Worcester Road Framingham, MA Empire Beauty School s mission is to provide a course of instruction that will equip and prepare students to become licensed hair designers, aestheticians or nail artists. In addition, Empire provides the proper training and confidence needed to establish a career in the exciting beauty industry while assisting students to reach their maximum potential. Teachers offer assistance, but additional tutoring would be contracted privately by the student. Institute for Community Inclusion 100 Morrissey Boulevard Boston MA The vocational training program is located at Boston Children s Hospital. Students participate in a six month internship in an area of the hospital, with the goal of training for a realistic career. Follow up vocational counseling and job placement assistance are provided after completion of the program. Job Corps Multiple Locations Job Corps is the nation s largest and most comprehensive residential, education and training program for youth, ages 16 through 24. Through integrated academic, vocational, and social skills training, students gain independence and get quality, long term jobs or further their education. Job Corps training is composed of four stages: Outreach and Admissions (OA), Career Preparation Period (CPP), Career Development Period (CLP), and Career Transition Period (CTP). The fundamental goal of the process is to help students achieve their career objective. Vocational training is provided in a variety of areas (depending upon the location), including automotive technology, carpentry, plumbing, culinary arts, and computer technology. Lincoln Technical Institute Multiple Locations technical institute The Lincoln Group of Schools has 43 campuses in 17 states across the country. Their focus is training students using practical hands on techniques to help them pursue careers in Automotive, Health Sciences, Business and Information Technology, Skilled Trades, Spa and Cosmetology or Culinary Arts. 16 Internship Programs Dynamy Internship Year 27 Sever Street Worchester, MA Dynamy, Inc. is a not for profit experiential educational organization founded in Using internships, leadership training, and outdoor challenge, Dynamy helps young people increase their competence, confidence, and sense of connection to society. Some students go on to college from this program. The orientation includes an Outward Bound experience. Institute for Community Inclusion 100 Morrissey Boulevard Boston MA The vocational training program is located at Boston Children s Hospital. As tutors, mentors and role models, participants help children stay in school and on track, and transform schools and communities across the United States, as well as through international affiliates in Johannesburg, South Africa and London. During their year of service, members develop civic leadership skills they can use throughout a lifetime of community service.
