1 REGULATIONS 1. Purpose 1.1. This Scholarship was established in 2009 by the Faculty of Computing and Mathematical Sciences for students enrolling in their first year of study towards an undergraduate degree, with a specified programme in Computer Graphic Design, at the University of Waikato. 2. Eligibility 2.1. To be eligible, applicants must be enrolling full-time in the first year of study towards an undergraduate degree, with a specified programme in Computer Graphic Design, within the Faculty of Computing & Mathematical Sciences Applicants should normally be completing their secondary schooling in the year prior to taking up the Scholarship, or have attended a New Zealand secondary school two years prior to taking up the award (and have spent the previous year at a secondary school overseas or on a relevant experiential programme). Applicants not meeting these requirements will only be considered in exceptional circumstances. 3. Value 3.1. The Scholarship will have a value of up to $5,000 and will be credited directly towards the tuition fees of the successful applicant In exceptional circumstances the Scholarship may be shared. 4. Application 4.1. The closing date for applications is 16 October All applicants must submit their portfolio along with their application form. All documents must be received by the closing date. 5. Selection Criteria 5.1. The Selection Panel will take into consideration: a) the quality of the applicant s portfolio; b) their academic abilities; and c) any additional information supplied in the applicant s statement. The applicant s enthusiasm for their chosen programme of study and financial circumstances may also be taken into consideration. 6. Selection Panel 6.1. The Scholarship will be awarded by a Selection Panel comprising the Chairperson of the Department of Computer Science (in the Chair), two computer graphic design lecturers from the Department and the Faculty s Scholarships Committee Representative (or their nominees).

2 6.2. The Selection Panel may refrain from making a recommendation, or recommend that the Scholarship be re-advertised, if it finds no applicant of sufficient merit The Selection Panel s decision is final and no correspondence will be entered into following the selection meeting. 7. Awarding 7.1. The successful applicant will be offered the Scholarship on the condition that they: a) are approved for entry into an undergraduate degree with a specified programme in Computer Graphic Design, and b) enrol full-time in an appropriate programme of study commencing in Semester A of the year of tenure The Scholarship should normally be taken up in the year of tenure. In exceptional circumstances, the Faculty of Computing and Mathematical Sciences may allow a recipient to defer their award for up to one year. Students wishing to defer their award must apply in writing to the Scholarships Office as soon as possible. Applications for deferment will be considered on a case by case basis The Scholarship will have a maximum tenure of one year. 8. Other Conditions 8.1. The Scholarship may be held with any other bursary, scholarship or award, provided that the regulations of the other award do not preclude this The Scholarship will not be refundable to recipients who withdraw from their degree in the Faculty of Computing and Mathematical Sciences. It will be the responsibility of the recipient to pay the balance of their fees The Scholarships Committee may terminate a Scholarship at any time, and recoup any funds dispersed, if it is satisfied that the recipient is not following the approved programme of study or is not otherwise complying with the conditions governing the Scholarship and/or the regulations of the University of Waikato. The recipient of a Scholarship shall have the right to appeal to the Education Committee against any decision to terminate the award By accepting a Scholarship, the recipient agrees to participate in any publicity concerning the Scholarship arranged by the University of Waikato.

You may also wish to attach any further supporting documentation which you deem to be appropriate. **This application must be sent directly to the Faculty of Computing and Mathematical Sciences, along with your portfolio, by 16 October CONDITIONS I understand that: 1. If I am offered a Scholarship, and accept the offer of the Scholarship, I will only be eligible to be formally awarded the Scholarship if I enrol at the University of Waikato in the year of tenure and comply with any other specific requirements of the Scholarship. 2. The Scholarships Committee may terminate a Scholarship at any time, and recoup any funds dispersed, if it is satisfied that the recipient is not following the approved programme of study or is not otherwise complying with the conditions governing the Scholarship and/or the regulations of the University of Waikato. The recipient of a Scholarship shall have the right to appeal to the Education Committee against any decision to terminate the award. PRIVACY DECLARATION The information requested in the attached application form will be used solely for the purposes of assessing your application for a Computer Graphic Design Fees Scholarship. Personal information contained in this application will be made available to members of the Selection Panel, members of the Scholarships Committee and staff of the Scholarships Office.
