Calculus, 6 th edition ISBN# Prerequisite: A grade of C or better in MATH 2312 or a score of 600 on the math portion of the SAT or a score of 29 on the math portion of the ACT. Task Listing and Course Objectives Upon completion of this course, the student will be able to: 1. Take the limit of a variety of functions and use the limit to find the derivative of a function. 2. Take the derivative of a variety of functions and apply the derivative to problems involving rate of change, graphing and optimization. 3. Find the anti-derivatives of a variety of functions and use anti-derivatives to solve differential equations and to evaluate definite integrals. 4. Use definite integrals to solve problems involving area, volume, work, moments and force. For each of the above task listings a minimum mastery of skills or minimum knowledge of these concepts will be indicated by a grade of 70% on an examination.

Work Required Course Activities Mandatory Daily Activities (Monday-Friday): Check your and discussion postings. Check the calendar for upcoming due dates. Make a note of these! Mandatory Weekly Activities: Refer to the homework assignment section to find the sections that you are supposed to cover. For each section, follow the routine below. o Complete the reading assignment from the text. You will find this under the reading assignments icon.

4 o Watch the video clips located under video presentation to see some examples worked in real-time. These videos are approximately 10 minutes long. You will need to download Real Player from the internet to view the content of the videos. There is a link on the web syllabus under computer requirements. o Students have told me that the video clips are very helpful when working assignments. o Complete the online homework assignment or Textbook homework assignment that corresponds to each section. The online assignments will be available at least two weeks in advance of the due dates. I encourage you to start on them early. You can take the online assignment as many times as you want (and time is unlimited), the assignments are merged into one grade. I will send instructions through as to how to send the paper assignments to me. Each assignment is due on a specified Monday by 10:30 pm. o Complete the quizzes. They will be open at 8:00 am on the specified open date and will close at 10:00 pm on the specified close date. (Check the course schedule for quiz dates) o There are test reviews for the mid-term exam and the final exam with Video clips and solutions. Other Encouraged Daily Activities: Post a message under the appropriate discussion heading if you have a question. Read all messages in the discussion area and reply to any that you see fit. Midterm and Final Exam You are required to come to the Victoria College Campus or a College/University Proctored Testing Center for both the midterm and the comprehensive final exam (you must bring any photo ID). This test will be paper and pencil and you will be required to show all of your work. Each test has two available options: Mid-Term Exam: Saturday, March 1st at 9:00am OR Tuesday, March 4th at 5:30pm. Final Exam: Saturday, May 3 rd at 9:00am OR Tuesday, May 6 th at 5:30pm. Both exams will be held in Johnson Hall Bldg, Room Number 200.

5 Computer Problems Each student enrolled in any online class has signed an Agreement of Understanding with The Victoria College. Please refresh yourself with this document so you may better understand our duties (you as a student and us as an institution of higher learning). Here are 4 steps to follow (in this order) if a problem does occur: 1) Don't panic! More than likely the problem can be fixed in a minimal amount of time. 2) Call me at (361) ext.3207, if I don t answer, leave a message. I will get back to you. I will you with other contact phone numbers. 3) Call the VC Help Desk and report your problem at (361) The operating hours are 8am-9pm, Monday-Thursday and 8am 4pm on Friday. Be able to describe the problem to the finest detail. The help desk will either solve the problem or direct you to someone who can. 4) Call Ilrn at (9:00 am 7:00 pm Central Time) if the problem is with the assignment on the computer. Advice: The level of stress caused by a computer problem can be greatly reduced by starting on assignments immediately. DON'T PROCRASTINATE! Grading Policy Grading Scale: A: ; B: 80-89; C: 70-79; D: 60-69; F: Below 60

6 Additional Policies Attendance: You are required to come to the Victoria College campus or a College/University Proctored Testing Center for the mid-term and the comprehensive final exam (you must bring a photo ID). These exams are pencil, paper exams where you will be required to show your work. Cheating: Cheating will be dealt with in accordance with the Victoria College policy.
