1 The Ties that Bind: Creating Partnerships & Collaboratives Education, Practice & Interprofessional/Interdisciplinary SREB Council on Collegiate Education for Nursing Annual Meeting, November 11-13, 2012 P lan now to attend the 2012 Annual Meeting! Our colleagues selected the theme for this important conference at the 2011 Annual Meeting. It addresses an important topic for educators in many disciplines, though the focus for the event will address issues related to nursing education and practice. The keynoter, Alexia Green, RN, Ph.D., FAAN, Professor and Dean Emeritus (Anita Thigpen Perry School of Nursing, Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center), will establish the framework for the conference. Other speakers and poster presentations, selected from responses to the Call for Abstracts for Podium and Poster Presentations, will describe partnerships and collaboratives, give examples of relevant activities, and summarize lessons learned in creating and sustaining a partnership. The hotel is connected by an enclosed promenade to the shopping and dining areas of Lenox Square Mall. A MARTA subway station ( is across the street from the hotel and provides convenient access to and from Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport and many other major attractions in Atlanta. Board the Gold Line headed toward Doraville to the Lenox Station. Trains operate from 5 a.m. to 1 a.m. daily. Taxi service is available outside the hotel 24 hours/day. The cost is a minimum of $7 around Buckhead and $46 to the airport. Prices vary according to the number of passengers. An airport shuttle, Atlanta Link ( picks up passengers on the hour. See the website for specific hours of operation. The cost is $20.50 one way or $37 round trip. The JW Marriott has reserved a block of rooms for participants at $189 per night (single or double occupancy). Hotel rooms are subject to applicable Georgia taxes (currently, 15 percent).
