2 The mission of the Department of Educational Leadership & Counseling in the Practicum experience is to educate students from diverse geographic, religious/spiritual, academic, ethnic, and cultural backgrounds who behave ethically, are aware of their professional responsibilities, and cognizant of their own personal strengths and resiliency so that they apply their training and self knowledge with a culturally diverse clientele.

5 1. A minimum of a master s degree in counseling or a related profession with equivalent qualifications, including appropriate certifications and/or licenses. 2. A minimum of two years of pertinent professional experience in the program area in which the student is enrolled. 3. Knowledge of the program s expectations, requirements, and evaluation procedures for students. 4. Relevant training in counseling supervision.

6 Ethical Guidelines Students and supervisors will be expected to follow ACA s Code of Ethics at all times. ACA_2005_Ethical_Code.pdf Liability Insurance Students are required to carry professional liability insurance during Practicum and Internship Site Supervisors are encouraged to maintain their own professional liability insurance Report Any Difficulty Supervisors are encouraged to report any problems to the Faculty Supervisor/Clinical Coordinator at their earliest opportunity.

7 Opportunities for audio/video recording or live supervision One hour weekly individual or triadic supervision provided by site supervisor For Practicum, faculty supervisor must be in biweekly contact with site supervisor One and a half hours per week of group supervision provided by faculty supervisor

8 Practicum 150 clock hours 50 hours of direct client contact Student pursuing the LPC track will complete a p g p total of two practicum experiences.

9 The opportunity for the student to become familiar with a variety of professional activities and resources in addition i to direct service (e.g., record keeping, assessment instruments, supervision, information and referral, in service and staff meetings).

11 Students will provide site supervisors with a copy of all forms Please complete and sign the Site Contract and Supervision Agreement at the beginning of the semester Please sign Hour Logs on a monthly basis Please complete and sign Student Evaluations when due and go over these with students

12 The program faculty coordinator/supervisor will visit each site supervisor during the semester. Regular contact between the program faculty coordinator and the site supervisor is to be maintained by telephone, e mail, and/or personal visit. The program faculty coordinator is available on request at any time the need should arise.
