1 Initial Instructions Before reading the Gigabit Ethernet (GbE) quick start guide, please refer to the DTS-330 or MVP-200 quick start guide that came with your test instrument. Preparing the GbE For Use When you purchased your GbE card, you were supplied with a GigaBit Interface Converter (GBIC). Figure 1 displays four examples of GBICs. 2 3 Open the DTS-330/MVP-200 ATSC Transport Stream Analyzer GUI GbE Analyzer and select GbE in the hiearachy tree on the left side of the screen. The GbE view appears. Figure 3 The GbE view in the ASTC TSA GUI As shown in Figure 3, the GbE view is divided into two panes, top and bottom. The top pane provides Mode selection and Network Statistics features. The bottom pane provides detailed information about the detected Transport Streams and the selected Transport Stream. 4 Select the appropriate Mode for your system and click Apply. Options include: Terminate Auto Mode - The GbE supports being connected to a network device using the optical GbE transmit and receive ports. In this configuration, the GbE interface is configured with auto negotiation on. Auto negotiation allows two devices at both ends of a link segment to advertise abilities, acknowledge receipt, understand the common modes of operation that both devices share, and reject the use of operational modes that are not shared by both devices. Terminate No Auto Mode - The GbE interface supports being connected to a network device using the optical GbE transmit and receive ports. In this configuration, the GbE interface is configured with auto negotiation off. Monitor Mode - The GbE interface supports being connected to an optical GbE network from an optical splitter to the receive port for test and analysis. Pass Through Mode - The GbE interface supports being connected in line from an optical GbE network to the receive port for test and analysis and to relay the GbE transport through the transmit port to the destination device. 2 Doc Rev. 000

3 The TS Auto detect area will populate all of the unique streams that encapsulate the MPEG-TS. Completing Advanced GbE IP Setup for IGMP The advanced GbE feature allows the DTS with GbE interface to join and leave IP multicast groups, using the Internet Group Management Protocol (IGMP) for signaling. Since the use of IGMP requires receiving and transmitting messages, the interface must be configured in the Terminate with Auto Negotiate or Terminate with No Auto Negotiate configuration modes. The DTS-330/MVP-200 GbE interface card must be provisioned with a MAC address from the factory and the interface must be installed in a DTS-330/MVP-200 running DTS software Version 6.3 or later on Windows XP. If you have a GbE interface on a DTS-330/MVP-200 with Windows NT, contact JDSU for upgrade information. The DTS GbE interface only works with the DTS MPEG analysis application, if other applications or browsers are active on the DTS-330/MVP-200, they can not use the DTS GbE interface as a network interface card. The GbE interface will work with routers provisioned to work with hosts set up with IGMP v1, IGMP v2 or IGMP v3. Since the only host application running on the DTS GbE interface is the MPEG Analysis application, the source filtering capabilities provided by IGMP v3 are not required. Provisioning the GbE IP address The Advanced GbE section of the Hardware tab in Preferences (Figure 4 on page 4) allows the user to configure the card to obtain an IP address automatically using DHCP or to configure the card with a static IP address. The IP address of the desired multicast group can then be entered in the Multicast Group Configuration box (see Provisioning the IGMP Multicast IP address list on page 4). To provision the GbE IP address: 1 On the menu bar, click File and select Preferences. 2 Select the Hardware tab. The Hardware tab opens. 3 Doc Rev. 000

4 Figure 4 The Hardware tab on the Preferences configuration box 3 In the Advanced GbE/IP Configuration area, choose Obtain IP Address Automatically or Use the Following IP Address under IP Setup. 4 If Use the Following IP Address selected in step 3, enter appropriate values in the IP Address, Subnet Mask, and Default Gateway fields. 5 Click OK. This IP address is for the GbE card and not for the computer s network card. The GbE IP address is configured. Provisioning the IGMP Multicast IP address list The valid range of multicast addresses is to When the setup is complete, it can be saved and opened as a Profile by going to the Transport Stream Analyzer File menu and selecting Profile Save or Profile Open as required. To provision the GbE IP address and IGMP Multicast IP address list: 1 Click GbE IP Setup in the hierarchy tree on the left side of the ATSC TSA GUI. 2 In the top pane of the GbE IP Setup view, click New. 5 Figure 5 The Multicast Group Configuration box 3 Enter a name for the new multicast group in the Group Name field. 4 Select Exclude or Include in the Mode dropdown. 5 Enter or paste IP addresses to exclude or include in the List of Sources field. 6 Click OK. The new multicast group is saved and appears in the list in the top panel of the GbE IP Setup view. Exiting the Gigabit Ethernet Analyzer Application If any changes were made to your Preferences - Profile, the Exiting... dialog box (Figure 6) will be displayed when you attempt to exit the Gigabit Ethernet analyzer application. Figure 6 Exiting... dialog box 1 To retain that same Profile Preferences (IP address) for your next session, click Yes. A Profile Save dialog box is displayed. 2 Use the drop down arrow in the Save In selection box to save to a location, i.e. My Documents. 3 Create a new folder, then rename the folder, i.e. DTS Profiles. 4 To open the newly created folder, click Open. 5 Give the Profile Preferences (IP address) file a name, i.e. GigE IP, and then click Save. The next time you open the Gigabit Ethernet Analyzer application, the saved IP address will be displayed. 5 Doc Rev. 000

6 Troubleshooting If your red indicator light did not turn green in the status bar and you are experiencing problems, check the following items: Make sure your connection type is set to hardware. You will find this on the menu bar under connection. Select analysis on the menu bar and then click start. If start is grayed out, that means that the analyzer is already running. Select file on the menu bar and make sure that the profile set type is the same as your connection type. If the indicator light is green, the stream is not changing, go to view on the menu bar and make sure freeze is not checked. If you changed channels or if you input the different stream, select analysis on the menu bar and then Reset All. This will clear out any old data from the previous channels or streams. The DTS-330/MVP-200 is shipped with a manuals short cut on the desktop. These manuals will give you more details about the operation of the DTS and its interface cards.
