4 Introduction Welcome to the HLT61107 Advanced Diploma of Nursing (Enrolled/ Division 2 nursing). Program Stage 1: Four -month program involving recognition of prior learning. Successful completion leads to HLT51607 Diploma in Nursing (Enrolled/Division 2 nursing). Stage 2: Six -month study program that leads to HLT61107 Advanced Diploma in Nursing (Enrolled/Division 2 nursing). 5 EEN Functions Although the Endorsed Enrolled Nurse (EEN) functions as an associate nurse who works under the supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN) / Registered Midwife (RM), it is critical to recognise that the nurses scope of practice is defined within the limits of their education, legislation and authorisation to practise as set out in the Nurses and Midwives Board of NSW EN registration information (Information for Education Providers, NMB NSW, May 2007). This qualification will allow the EEN to develop advanced skills and knowledge in client assessment, care and management across a wide range of these health care settings, within the scope of practice for the EEN. Aims The full qualification HLT61107 Advanced Diploma in Nursing (Enrolled/ Division 2 nursing) aims to prepare and enable recognition of current competence for the EEN and provide knowledge and skills in advanced nursing practice in the selected clinical stream. Areas of nursing offered in this qualification include: Mental Health Acute Care Parentcraft and Family Health Peri-operative Paediatrics *Course commencement is dependent on sufficient numbers. 6 Learning outcomes At the completion of this qualification, the participants will be able to: 1. Identify and utilise the principles of best practice in nursing assessment, care delivery, client service and health care teamwork in order to provide holistic nursing care. 2. Perform nursing interventions to assist the client with a health condition and his / her family to maintain optimal function and lifestyle. 3. Demonstrate knowledge and skills required to nursing practice in contemporary health environment using research skills. 4. Perform nursing interventions both acute and complex to assist the client with a health condition, and his / her family to maintain and regain optimal function and lifestyle. 5. Perform nursing interventions to assist the clients / patients in either: Neonatal, Paediatric, Child & Family Health settings to Acute Care Nursing environments, Peri-operative and Mental Health settings to regain optimal function and lifestyle. 6. Apply standard processes and procedures to providing a comprehensive assessment of clients who may require referral to other services / personnel. 7. Develop, facilitate and monitor all aspects of health care for clients. 8.Apply the principles of acute care, parent craft and family health, mental health, renal and or perioperative nursing care, building upon existing skills to enable the enrolled nurse to provide holistic nursing care Page 6 of 14

7 Qualification Details The HLT61107 Advanced Diploma in Nursing (Enrolled/Division 2 nursing) qualification consists of seven (7) units of competency from the HLT07 Health Training Package. Each stream consists of two (2) compulsory units and five (5) elective units that relate to your chosen stream. Two (2) Compulsory units HLTEN606A (unit code)- Assess clients and manage client care (unit name) HLTEN514 A- Apply research skills within a contemporary health environment The first two units will form the fundamental principles that will underpin and enhance the knowledge and skills essential to determine clients needs, health status and implement best practice nursing interventions. All five streams will be completing the above compulsory units together. Five (5) Elective units for each corresponding stream The electives selected will equip EEN s with the necessary skills and knowledge required to practice more effectively and efficiently within the student s selected stream. Each unit of competency has specified elements and performance criteria that describe the outcomes by which the unit as a whole can be judged by an assessor as being performed to a competent level. 8 Clinical Placement RTO It is recommended that you organise clinical placement in all areas related to attaining competence in skills for this qualification related to your selected stream. You will receive a clinical skills book on your first day of the Advanced Diploma course to ensure sufficient time for you to arrange your placement. All participants are to be deemed competent by the end of this qualification in all skills listed in the specified clinical skills book. If competence is not attained by the end of the course the participant is required to inform the course co-ordinator in advance (1 month prior) to ensure strategies are put in place to facilitate completion. Qualification assessment The following critical aspects of assessment will be applied for the attainment of this qualification. The assessee must be able to: Provide evidence of specified essential knowledge and skills Identify a need for research into health issues Undertake research in specific related area of need in their current clinical setting Submit written assessments that demonstrate an ability to apply learned knowledge and discuss its implications on practice Negotiate observation of performance in an actual or simulated workplace setting Demonstrate consistency of performance over the required range of situations relevant to the workplace Page 8 of 14

HLTEN609A Practise in the respiratory nursing environment This unit addresses the principles of respiratory nursing care, building upon existing skills to enable the enrolled nurse to provide holistic nursing care to a group of clients with respiratory impairment HLTEN610A Practise in the cardiovascular nursing environment This competency unit describes the skills and knowledge required to apply the principles of cardiovascular nursing care, building on existing skills to enable the enrolled nurse to provide holistic nursing care. Enrolled nurses use a range of complex nursing interventions to assist clients and their significant others to attain and maintain optimal cardiovascular health HLTEN611A Apply principles of diabetic nursing care 40 hours This competency unit describes the skills and knowledge required to apply the principles of diabetic nursing care, building upon existing skills to enable the enrolled nurse to provide holistic nursing care and maintain optimal health HLTEN619A Manage clients and others experiencing loss and grief 30 hours This competency unit describes the skills and knowledge required by Enrolled Nurses to address requirements of an extended role in the assessment and management of clients and their significant others experiencing loss and grief. This unit emphasises the importance of recognising and managing personal, workplace and professional stress of self and colleagues in caring for those experiencing loss and grief. CHCCN5C Care for babies This unit describes the knowledge and skills required by anyone working with babies/infants to ensure that their physical and emotional well being is maintained. Workers may be under direct supervision or working autonomously CHCDFV402C Manage own professional development in responding to domestic and family violence This unit identifies the skills and knowledge required for individuals to manage their own performance and take responsibility for their professional development in relation to domestic and family violence. 12 Mental Health Stream Unit of Competency HLTEN606A Assess clients and manage client care This competency unit describes the skills and knowledge required for the EN to address the principles of best practice in nursing care delivery, client service and health care teamwork in order to provide holistic nursing care to clients at an advanced level in a variety of health care settings HLTEN514 A Apply research skills within a contemporary health environment This unit of competency describes the skills and knowledge required of the EN to demonstrate nursing practice in a contemporary health environment using research skills HLTEN617A Practice in contemporary mental health care This competency unit describes the skills and knowledge required by EN to perform nursing interventions to assist the person with a mental health condition to maintain or regain optimal function and lifestyle. It focuses on the roles and responsibilities of the EN within the mental health team, and on the nursing management of the consumer with a mental illness within the acute and/or community mental health environment. CHCCS501A Assess and respond to individuals at risk of self- harm or 16 hours suicide This unit aims to provide community services workers with appropriate skills and knowledge to assess and respond to individuals who are at risk of self-harming or suicidal behaviour. CHCCSL602A Facilitate the counselling relationship 16 hours This unit describes the knowledge and skills required to enable clients to identify and work through concerns. CHCAOD8C Assess the needs of clients who have alcohol and/or other 16 hours drugs issues This unit relates to assessing client needs in the context of the delivery of identifying options for delivery of community services to support their needs. This unit includes applying standard processes and procedures to providing a comprehensive assessment of clients AOD and other needs, developing case plans based on the assessment, and referring clients to other services as required. CHCGROUP3C Plan and conduct group activities 20 hours This competency unit describes the skills and knowledge required by EN s to effectively educate and inform women and their families with appropriate group strategies.
