The position of Director is a presidential appointment with confirmation by the United States Senate. On October 5, 2009, President Barack Obama nominated me for this position. My confirmation hearing with the Judiciary Committee took place on November 18, 2009 and I was confirmed by the Senate on June 22, I was sworn in as the Director of NIJ on July 22, During my tenure, I made more than 100 presentations, including briefings for the Attorney General, the Deputy Attorney General, and the Associate Attorney General in the Department of Justice, the Office of Management and Budget, the President s Council of Advisors on Science and Technology, and House and Senate Staff.
