1 Master of Marine Science and Management Cross institutional study Students enrolled in the Master of Marine Science and Management are required to undertake TWO units of study at one or two of the partner universities. The units of study undertaken at the partner universities are accredited towards the degree at the home university. This arrangement falls under cross institutional or concurrent study and each university has a slightly different protocol for this kind of enrolment. The document provided here is aimed to help you with your cross institutional enrolment. There are two components to cross institutional or concurrent study enrolment that you will need to fulfil to successfully enrol: 1. Application at your home university for permission to study at one/two of the partner universities 2. Application for cross institutional enrolment at the partner universities 1. Application at your home university for permission to study at one/two of the partner universities 1.1. You are enrolled at the University of New South Wales To request permission to undertake study at another institution and for this study to be counted towards your current degree program at UNSW please use this form You are enrolled at the University of Sydney ( In order to apply for permission to undertake cross institutional study outbound, you need to submit the completed Outbound Cross Institutional Study Request form found at and a detailed unit of study outline for the units that you will enrol in at the partner universities.. Once you have successfully completed the two units of study at the partner universities you will need to submit a certified copy of your Results Notice and an explanation of the grading system. Your results are not automatically sent to The University of Sydney by your Host Institution! Semester 1: 31 January Semester 2: 30 June 1.3. You are enrolled at Macquarie University 1

2 To study at one of the partner universities you do NOT need to complete an application form at your home university. However, after completion of the units taken at the partner universities you need to complete the Application for Credit for Previous Studies form together with CERTIFIED copies of the transcript from the partner university, a description of the grading systems used, and a description of the subjects completed You are enrolled at the University of Technology Sydney Concurrent study applies to current UTS students who wish to study a subject(s) at another institution and have the result(s) credited towards the degree they are undertaking at UTS. To apply for concurrent studies you must complete a Concurrent study application form and provide the additional supporting documentation. Application closing date: Before the commencement of semester. Once you have successfully completed the two units of study at the partner universities you will have to apply for Recognition for Prior Learning by lodging a Subject Exemption Concurrent Study by submitting the completed Subject Exemption Concurrent Study form plus a certified copy of your Results Notice and an explanation of the grading system. Your results are not automatically sent to UTS by your Host Institution! 2. Application for cross institutional enrolment at the partner universities 2.1. Enrolling at the University of New South Wales ( Domestic Students: You must complete a cross institutional (PDF) application form for domestic students A written confirmation from your home institution that the course/s you applied for will be credited towards your degree Original or certified copy* of your official academic transcript If you are enrolled as a Commonwealth supported student at your home institution, evidence of your Commonwealth Supported Student status Please note that there is an application fee of $100. 2

Enrolling at the University of Sydney ( You must complete an Inbound Cross institutional Study application form (PDF) A completed Home Institution Commonwealth Support Status Declaration showing your status as a Commonwealth supported or fee paying student An official academic transcript from your home institution. A passport or birth certificate (or a certified copy of these documents) showing Australian citizenship/permanent residency or citizenship of New Zealand. (If applicable) Evidence of pre 2005 HECS status (eg. last confirmation of enrolment). International students: If you are a temporary resident or hold a student visa, please also submit a letter stating that you are enrolled in the Master of Marine Science and Management at one of Sydney University s partner universities (UNSW, UTS, MQ) which requires you to enrol in two units of study outside your home university. Enrolling at Macquarie University ( You will be liable to pay tuition fees for the Macquarie units irrespective of whether you are in a Commonwealth supported program or a tuition fee program at your home institution. Eligible cross institutional students undertaking postgraduate units on a tuition fee basis may apply for FEE HELP. You must complete a cross institutional (PDF) application form In addition, you will need to lodge a supporting letter from your home university that confirms your enrolment (CERTIFIED supporting documentation). Enrolling at University of Technology Sydney You must complete a cross institutional (PDF) application form You may be eligible for HECS HELP or FEE HELP depending on if you have a CSP or DFEE place and providing you meet the citizenship and residency requirements. You will be required to submit with their application: Home institution's written confirmation that the subject(s) applied for will be credited towards you degree Evidence of your current fee status at your home institution (CSP or Domestic Fee Paying) Semester 1: 31 January 2011 Semester 2: 30 June

5 International students: If you are a temporary resident or hold a student visa, please submit the following to the International Office: Completed UTS Undergraduate or Postgraduate application form ( Correctly certified copy of your official academic transcript for current studies in Australia Correctly certified copy of an approval letter issued by home university confirming recognition of the UTS subject for cross institutional purposes. 5
