It is a post graduate and post experience qualification. The part-time MBA at Edinburgh is taught predominantly in the evenings therefore minimising disruption to the participants career. The objectives of the programme are: 1. To enable all students/non-specialists to recognise and understand language and theory of the specialised field (i.e. to be able to communicate with specialists in a knowledgeable and credible manner) 2. To demonstrate a critical awareness of theoretical concepts and debates within the field (i.e. to train students how to engage with knowledge and to demonstrate awareness and understanding of complex debates). 3. To demonstrate a basic understanding of issues of practical relevance to managerial practice. 4. To develop the cognitive skills required to recognise problems and develop solutions in empirical/active management contexts (i.e. to apply knowledge and/or comprehend the practical implications of appropriate concepts ) 5. To develop the foundation skills required to successfully undertake more advanced courses within the field. (i.e. to develop knowledge and ability to practice) 6. To have experienced and benefited from the relevant professional experiences of fellow students in order to enhance the learning and skills acquisition processes.

3 Programme Outcomes are assessed via the following Methods Initial managerial and interpersonal skills will be assessed via a Development centre. This utilises a competency framework developed specifically for the Edinburgh MBA, participants behaviours and performance are observed as they participate in a number of exercises. Extensive individual feedback is provided both in person and also via a Training Needs Analysis. These skills are developed and assessed via the integrative modules which use a variety of exercises which require negotiation, team work and leadership, presentation analytical and problem solving skills. Knowledge, understanding, intellectual and professional skills are assessed in the core and option courses and the dissertation, utilising a combination of the full range of assessment techniques ranging from traditional examination through to class contribution. 11) Programme Structure and Features: Entry Requirements First degree and/or professional equivalent. In exceptional circumstances significant (both in duration and level) work experience, allied with evidence that the candidate can perform successfully at postgraduate levels, may be substituted Minimum of 3 years substantive work experience For this whose first language is not English, language test scores of: 250 on the TOEFL computerised test with a minimum of 4.0 on the TWE (Test of Written English), 600 on the uncomputerised version of TOEFL, and 7.0 on IELTS. Where an applicant has successfully completed a degree taught in English or whose work environment is English, language test scores may not be requested Progression To pass the coursework component, students must obtain an average of 50% or more across all courses, subject to obtaining marks less than 50% in no more than 40 credits. The mark for the dissertation must not fall below 50%. However, students are permitted to make minor alterations to dissertations with marks not less than 47% and below 50%, in order to raise the performance to the required level. The Diploma in Business Administration may be awarded to students obtaining average marks in the 120 credits of coursework of 40% or more, provided that at least 80 credits are passed at the Diploma level.

6 12) Other Items The School recognises the significant investment in both time, effort and financial terms students make whilst completing an MBA. With students enrolling on the Edinburgh experiencing opportunity costs of up to 100,000 and facing a very competitive market, the School ensures it is delivering the best quality and attractive programme. The programme is supported by an extensive support team to help manage and deliver the programme. Significant investment has been made over recent years to support the development of the Edinburgh MBA. This investment across the three MBA variants has helped the School develop a strong international reputation partly developed through the high international rankings of the programme by the likes of the Financial Times and Economist Intelligence Unit. Students have 24 hour access to a dedicated building, which is a very well equipped environment to support independent student learning. This includes; computer lab combined with wireless LAN throughout the building Research Access Centre and very comprehensive www site (MIRACLE) which acts as the electronic centre of the School and includes access to major electronic management related electronic library facilities and services. ACCORN Centre which co-ordinates alumni, career and corporate liaison activities, again supported by extensive web based services. syndicate rooms which are bookable electronically, providing 24/7 meeting facilities In addition to the physical facilities students on any of the 4 variants of the Edinburgh MBA are actively encouraged to integrate and learn from each other.
