1 Position Announcement: BAY AREA EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR Location: San Francisco, CA ABOUT COLLEGESPRING: CollegeSpring is a nonprofit that mobilizes experienced educators and near-peer mentors to help high school students from low-income backgrounds achieve the SAT scores, college acceptances, and futures they deserve. Since 2008, 7,000 students from nearly 40 high schools in the Bay Area and Los Angeles have completed our program, improving their SAT scores an average of nearly 200 points and preparing for college. Beginning in 2014, we are also serving students in New York City. We have raised over $5 million to expand our program, including major support from The Michael & Susan Dell Foundation, The Kresge Foundation, Bill Bowes, Ron Conway, Steve & Roberta Denning, John Hennessy, Pitch Johnson, John Kissick, Angela Nomellini, Mindy Rogers, Gene Sykes, and Sheryl Sandberg. We expect to reach 9,300 additional students over the next three years as our budget expands to $5 million. ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY: The Bay Area Executive Director (BA ED) is a new position and will be responsible for overseeing fundraising and program operations in the Bay Area region. The BA ED will serve as the leader of the entire region, responsible for building and growing important relationships and partnerships to create a sustainable fundraising base, managing local staff, leading board

2 development, ensuring strong financial and operational management, overseeing program execution and evaluation, and participating in the development and execution of the region s strategic growth plan. The BA ED will report to the CEO and will work closely with senior staff as a critical member of the national leadership team. RESPONSIBILITIES: Fundraising: o Serve as relationship manager for local development efforts; philanthropy budget for 2015 is approximately $450K, growing to $1M+ by 2018 o Secure 25% of regional fundraising in year 1, increasing to 50% in year 2; serve as secondary partner on all remaining regional fundraising o Oversee regional efforts to effectively cultivate and steward local donors and prospects Partnership Development: o Lead development of fee-based partnerships with schools and community organizations in the region o Identify and cultivate strong leaders for regional Advisory Board; effectively manage regional board to further the fundraising, partnership, and programmatic goals of the region starting with a 5 member team that will expand to 9 members by 2018 o Build and maintain relationships with relevant nonprofit, education, and community leaders Site Management: o Ensure ongoing high-quality program execution o Recruit, retain, and support a high-performing team o Manage all day-to-day operations of the region

3 Organizational Leadership: o Develop regional growth plans in partnership with leadership team, regional board, and regional staff o Represent the region in conversations with the leadership team and national board; serve as a key voice in organizational growth plans o Effectively represent CollegeSpring and the Bay Area program/site at local events and gatherings QUALIFICATIONS: o 10+ years of progressive management and leadership experience, with at least 5 years of experience working in education or youth-serving organizations o Ability to thrive in a small, fast-paced, growthoriented, and results-driven environment, with a strong commitment to CollegeSpring s mission, vision, and strategic direction o Demonstrated success with fundraising for a missiondriven and results-oriented nonprofit o Demonstrated ability to think strategically while executing tactically and leveraging entrepreneurial spirit to achieve ambitious goals o Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, with the proven ability to represent the organization publicly and passionately to a variety of stakeholders, including partners, funders, and community members o Collaborative and innovative leadership style; proven ability to inspire, coach, and manage to high performance o Flexible and adaptive work style, with the ability to thrive in an entrepreneurial environment; ability to prioritize among competing demands o Bachelor s degree required; advanced degree
