This study was conducted to investigate the workload, work importance and job satisfaction of Clinical Research Nurses (CRNs). Subjects consisted of 152 CRNs. The mean scores were 4.79/7 points in workload; 5.75/7 points in work importance and 3.06/5 points in job satisfaction. Job satisfaction differed significantly according to age (p=.030), income (p=.002), reason for application (p=.011), previous workplace (p=.034) and potential for development (p=.002). These findings indicated that, in order to increase CRN s job satisfaction, it is necessary to understand their general and job related characteristics, well. Key words: Job Satisfaction, Clinical Research Nurse 1 Introduction A clinical trial refers to a test on human to identify pharmacokinetics, pharmacodynamics, pharmacometrics and clinical effect of the drug and look into its adverse events in order to prove the safety and effectiveness of medicines[1]. It is a step that needs most costs and human resources in the process of developing a new drug, evaluating the drug on security of the effectiveness and safety of new drugs based on preclinical trial data on animals in scientific and ethical ways[2]. A Clinical Research Nurse (CRN) refers to professional nurse who helps the principal investigator according to the principle of Good Clinical Practice (GCP), supports and operates clinical trials, working with responsibilities for mediation and performance of clinical trials substantially[3]. Since CRNs spend most of time directly in interaction with subjects in the entire process of clinical trial, their roles are very important for performing successful clinical trials[4]. However, the security rate of CRNs is relatively lower than that of other experts in clinical trial implementation institutions, such as clinical trial pharmacists, clinical pharmacologists and administrative personnel[5], and while job skills and eligibility criteria, etc. for CRNs have not been established, and individual institutions, treatment departments or individual professors themselves employ CRNs, while they do not belonging to the hospital, so problems occur in working conditions and human resources as well as a difficulty in establishing the roles of CRN[6]. 2 2 Methods This study was conducted to investigate the job satisfaction of 152 Clinical Research Nurses (CRNs). Also was accepted from IRB of Konyang University Hospital, Daejeon. Data were analyzed using t-test and ANOVA. 3 Results The mean scores were 3.06/5 points in job satisfaction (Table 1). significantly differed depending on age (p=.030), income (p=.002), reason for application (p=.011), previous workplace (p=.034) and potential for development (p=.002) (Table 2),(Table 3). Also, it is necessary to prepare a measure to improve the conditions that hinder their job satisfaction, and for this purpose, it is necessary to prepare a work environment for effective job performance along with standardized job analysis.
