2 Business Relations and Economic Development (BRED) The Partnership s Business Relations and Economic Development (BRED) unit supports the regional business community s growth and stability by leveraging economic and workforce development strategies and resources to meet the workforce needs of employers. The BRED unit is responsible for: Business Relations Engage regional business community to identify opportunities to provide innovative, quality and integrated services to regional employers. Economic Development Liaise with the City of Chicago s Department of Housing and Economic Development and the Cook County Bureau of Economic Development to advise on workforce solutions for regional business competitiveness. WARN / Rapid Response Workshops Present information to affected workers on their available rights, responsibilities and resources; match skilled employees with current job opportunities. 2

5 Business Relations Engage the business community to identify industry hiring trends and workforce needs. Improve the matching of potential candidates to specific job opportunities. Improve employer relations by understanding employer industry trends and workforce needs; leverage Partnership Sector Centers. Promote more widely employment opportunities to attract more skilled candidates. Promote Partnership business services tools and involve external mandated partner agencies, as necessary. 5
6 Economic Development Coordination with the City of Chicago s Housing and Economic Development Workforce Solutions unit to assist with special projects including TIFWorks. Coordination with Cook County s Bureau of Economic Development to encourage regional business use of The Partnership as a resource for meeting personnel needs as they plan for regional redevelopment, expansion or as part of tax incentive programs. Partner with local and regional economic development councils, chambers of commerce, professional associations and other service providers to gain insight into employer demands for recruitment and training within key sectors. 6
7 WARN/Rapid Response Workshops Participate and facilitate regional WARN/Rapid Response Workshops with mandated partners to provide affected companies employing 50+ workers facing layoffs with information on employee rights, responsibilities and resources. Convene and facilitate local regional WARN/Rapid Response Workshops for companies employing fewer than 50 affected workers with information on employee rights, responsibilities and resources. Coordinate outreach, reemployment and training services to affected workers. 7
8 BRED and Delegate Agencies Convene and facilitate Business Services Team meetings to promote system-wide collaboration and to implement best practices. Create a system-wide approach for meeting employer demand; improve job referral efficiency and access to a broader pool of eligible job seekers for vacant positions by leveraging existing technology. Serve as a conduit for disseminating job orders for position vacancies throughout the network of delegate agencies and beyond. Promote the use of existing technologies by the provider network including DCEO Illinois worknet and IDES Illinois JobLink for job seekers and employers. 8
