3 Addition Bag Materials: counters, sandwich bags marked with line 1. Put counters into your bag. 2. Move the counters to make two sets, one on each side of the line. 3. Use pictures and numbers to show how many counters are in each set and how many counters in all. 4. How many different ways you can find to show the number?

4 Addition Plate Materials: plastic plate divided into 3 sections, counters, numeral cards (0-5) 1. Turn over a numeral card. Put this many counters in one small section on the plate. 2. Turn over another numeral card. Put this many counters in the other small section on the plate. 3. Join your counters together in the larger section on the plate. How many counters in all? 4. Use pictures and numbers to show your work with the addition plate.

5 Dot Card Addition Materials: Numeral cards (0-10), dot cards, pencils, paper 1. Turn over a numeral card 2. How many pairs of dot cards can you find to equal this number? 3. Record your work. 4. Repeat with another number.

9 Domino Addition Materials: dominoes, numeral cards = = = 4 1. Put a stack of numeral cards in front of you. 2. Turn over the card on the top of the stack 3. How many different dominoes can you find with this total number of dots? 4. Record your work.

11 Bears in the Cave Materials: cave (bowl) with entrance cut out, counting bears 1. Count out five bears and put them in front of the cave. 2. Move some of the bears into the cave. 3. How many bears did you start with? How many bears are now in the cave? How many bears are left outside? 4. Show your work using pictures, numbers, or words.

12 Hide the Cubes Materials: connecting cubes 1. Work with a partner. Build a stick of 10 connecting cubes. 2. Put the stick behind your back and break it into two sections. 3. Show one section to your partner and ask, How many cubes do I have behind my back? 4. Check to see if your partner is correct. 5. Keep taking turns to hide the cubes and check your answers.

13 Make Five on the Five Frame Materials: two color counters (red and yellow), blank five frame I placed five counters on my five frame. Some were red and some were yellow. What might my five frame have looked like? Use pictures, numbers, or words to show as many different solutions as you can. How many different solutions did you find?

14 Make Ten on the Ten Frame Materials: two color counters (red and yellow), blank ten frame I placed ten counters on my ten frame. Some were red and some were yellow. What might my ten frame have looked like? Draw a picture and write a number model for each solution that you find. How many different solutions did you find?

15 Mouse Count Materials: Mouse Count, Ellen Stoll Walsh 1. After listening to the story, Mouse Count by Ellen Stoll Walsh, solve the following problem: How many different ways could 10 mice be arranged with some in the jar and some in the grass? 2. Count out 10 mice. Place some mice inside the jar. Place some mice outside the jar. 3. Use pictures, numbers or words to show all the different ways the ten mice could be arranged.
