5 Preface This document describes methods of setting and managing the SPARC M10 systems from Oracle or Fujitsu after installation.read the necessary parts when operating any SPARC M10 system. We recommend you read the Fujitsu M10/SPARC M10 Systems Quick Guide to better understand the contents of this document. Fujitsu M10 is sold as SPARC M10 Systems by Fujitsu in Japan. 11 Glossary This section mainly describes unique terms used with the SPARC M10 systems. Note - For the terms related to Oracle VM Server for SPARC, see "Glossary" in the Oracle VM Server for SPARC Administration Guide of the version used. Note - This section does not cover generally well-known terms. active maintenance BB-ID Maintenance performed with the power to the physical partition kept on and the input power turned on (power cord connected) for the chassis in which the maintenance target FRU is mounted. The ID that identifies an enclosure.bb-id is configured and used in the SPARC M10-4S which allows the connected use of multiple enclosures. building block (BB) configuration To make a configuration by combining the devices using the building block method.a crossbar box may be required depending on the number of SPARC M10-4S units to be combined. In the SPARC M10 systems, a building block consists of SPARC M10-4S. building block (BB) method CMU A method of expansion which adds the component devices in proportion to the system scale.the SPARC M10-4S, as the unit of configuration, enables adjustments to system resources as a chassis with a built-in power supply and mounted CPU, memory, and I/O resources. See CPU memory unit (CMU). 3

12 control domain A domain that is among the configured logical domains in a physical partition and is used to create and manage other domains, assign virtual resources, etc. Oracle VM Server for SPARC is installed on the control domain.each physical partition contains one control domain. control domain console A console for operating the control domain in a physical partition. Switching is possible using the console(8) command from the XSCF shell.for the connection, either the read- and write-enabled RW console or the read-only enabled RO console is connected. CPU Activation CPU Activation means the following: a.mechanism for using the CPUs mounted in the SPARC M10 systems b.rights information that is set in the SPARC M10 systems to enable use of CPU cores c.name of a product as a set of "rights and setting information" for enabling use of CPU cores in the SPARC M10 systems To use the CPU cores in the SPARC M10 systems, CPU Activations must be registered in the SPARC M10 systems with the necessary number of CPU Activations assigned to physical partitions (PPARs). CPU Activations may appear as "Permits" in programs.cpu Activations with the required capacity based on the system design are available for purchase. CPU Activation may be described as "COD" or "CoD" in programs and manuals. CPU Activation key A key that can be obtained from the purchase of a CPU Activation. Registration of the CPU Activation key in the system enables use of CPU cores up to the purchased capacity. CPU memory unit (CMU) A unit consisting of a CPU memory unit (lower) (CMUL) and CPU memory unit (upper) (CMUU), used in the SPARC M10-4/M10-4S. The CPU memory unit (lower) consists of CPUs, memory, the XSCF, and a PCI Express backplane.the CPU memory unit (upper) consists of CPUs and memory. crossbar backplane unit (XBBPU) A unit for connecting each component of a crossbar box. crossbar box (XBBOX) A chassis that is required when connecting five or more SPARC M10-4S. 4 Fujitsu M10/SPARC M10 Systems Glossary October 2013

13 crossbar cable A cable that is connected between SPARC M10-4S units or connects the SPARC M10-4S and a crossbar box. An electrical cable is used for the configurations of direct connections between chassis.an optical cable is used for connections through crossbar boxes. crossbar unit (XBU) A unit that is mounted in the SPARC M10-4S or a crossbar box to expand the system by connecting with another SPARC M10-4S or crossbar box. degraded State of one FRU, FRU group, or FRU part that was released because a failure occurred. Normally, a component suspected to have failed is released to prevent the failure from affecting other components in the system.not only is the failed component released but also a normal component may be degraded to release the failed component.furthermore, if a function essential to system operation is degraded, the system may shut down as a result. domain DR A virtual machine which is built on the SPARC M10 systems.hardware resources on the SPARC M10 systems can be assigned, to build multiple virtual machines of necessary scale. A domain can be built using the two-tier partitions of physical partition (PPAR) and logical domain.oracle Solaris operates in each built logical domain, which appears as a single independent computing system from user's point of view. See dynamic reconfiguration (DR). dynamic reconfiguration (DR) Reconfiguration of the hardware resources composing the system without stopping the system while in operation. Dynamic reconfiguration of a physical partition (PPAR) can dynamically reconfigure the system board (PSB) as a hardware resource.dynamic reconfiguration of a logical domain can dynamically reconfigure CPUs, memory, and I/O devices as hardware resources. extended system control facility (XSCF) Firmware running in a service processor.the XSCF is equipped with the control and monitoring functions of the system platform. failover A process in which the master XSCF transfers control to the standby XSCF, or a process in which the standby XSCF takes over control from the master XSCF. 14 FANU In both processes, the standby XSCF becomes the master XSCF, and the master XSCF becomes the standby XSCF. See fan unit (FANU). fan unit (FANU) A unit for cooling down components inside the SPARC M10 system chassis. One fan unit consists of two cooling fans. field replaceable unit (FRU) FRU A component that can be replaced by a field engineer during SPARC M10 system maintenance. See field replaceable unit (FRU). guest domain One of the logical domains created by Oracle VM Server for SPARC. The control domain manages the guest domain, which uses the virtual device services of an I/O domain and service domain.generally, user applications run on this domain. Hypervisor One of the control modules used to implement virtualization. Hypervisor is provided as a part of the XCP firmware. inactive maintenance Maintenance performed with the power turned off for the physical partition where the maintenance target FRU belongs and with the input power turned on (power cord connected) for the chassis in which this FRU is mounted. I/O board One of the components composing a PCI expansion unit.eleven slots compatible with 8 lane PCI-Express Gen 3.0 and one slot for a link board to connect with the SPARC M10 systems are on the I/O board. I/O domain One of the logical domains created by Oracle VM Server for SPARC.The I/O domain can directly access a physical I/O device such as a PCIe card.the domain can own a PCIe root complex.the domain can also own a PCIe slot or on-board PCIe device by using the direct I/O function of Oracle VM Server for SPARC. 6 Fujitsu M10/SPARC M10 Systems Glossary October 2013

15 logical domain A virtual system that is configured by virtually dividing the hardware resources in a physical partition. Logical domains can be configured using Oracle VM Server for SPARC installed on the control domain.the types of logical domain are control domain, guest domain, service domain, I/O domain, and root domain. logical system board (LSB) LSB The logical unit name which will be assigned to the system board (SB).Each physical partition (PPAR) has a set of LSB which is assigned to it. See logical system board (LSB). master XSCF An XSCF that controls an entire system in which the SPARC M10-4S has a configuration of multiple XSCFs.Master XSCF is duplicated with the standbystate XSCF which operates as the master XSCF backup. mode switch A sliding switch on the operation panel of the SPARC M10 systems. The mode switch is used to switch between Locked mode for regular operation and Service mode for maintenance work. operation panel (OPNL) OPNL An operation panel that is mounted on the front of the chassis of the SPARC M10 systems and crossbar boxes. The operation panel has a power button, a mode switch, and LEDs showing the system status.furthermore, the panel for the SPARC M10-4S and crossbar boxes has a BB-ID switch for setting a chassis identifier (BB-ID). See operation panel (OPNL). partition The unit which is created as a result of partitioning.synonymous with physical partition. partitioning To build the physical partition (PPAR).In the SPARC M10 systems, connection of the SPARC M10-4S by using the building block method offers partitioning. PCI Expansion unit An optional device for PCI slot addition. Glossary 7

16 The PCI expansion unit can have up to 11 PCI-Express cards.the unit is connected by an optical or electrical cable via a link card mounted in the SPARC M10 system. PCI hot plug (PHP) PCL PDU PHP Active addition or removal of a PCIe card executed during Oracle Solaris OS operation. See PPAR configuration list (PCL). See power distribution unit (PDU). See PCI hot plug (PHP). physical partition (PPAR) POST A single unit which is divided by partitioning.physical partition (PPAR) can be the unit to perform the active maintenance of the system. See power-on selftest (POST). power distribution unit (PDU) An FRU that is mounted in an expansion rack to supply power to each chassis of the SPARC M10 systems. power-on self-test (POST) A diagnostic test that is automatically executed at the SPARC M10 system power-on time.after testing for failures in hardware such as memory and disks, POST passes control to OpenBoot PROM. power supply unit (PSU) PPAR A unit for supplying power to each component of the SPARC M10 systems. See physical partition (PPAR). PPAR configuration list (PCL) Hardware resource information that is set for each physical partition and each logical system board (LSB) composing the physical partition. 8 Fujitsu M10/SPARC M10 Systems Glossary October 2013

17 PPAR-ID PSB PSU An ID identifying a physical partition (PPAR). The PPAR-ID must be any one of the IDs among the BB-IDs of units mounted in the SPARC M10-4S composing the PPAR. See system board (PSB). See power supply unit (PSU). PSU backplane (PSUBP) A unit for connecting multiple power supply units. The memory mounted on the PSU backplane for the SPARC M10-1/M10-4/M10-4S saves device identification information and user setting information. PSUBP RCIL See PSU backplane (PSUBP). Stands for Remote Cabinet Interface over LAN. An interface which uses IPMI (Intelligent Platform Management Interface) over LAN to provide features such as power control or network status monitoring. service domain One of the logical domains created by Oracle VM Server for SPARC. In linkage with an I/O domain, the service domain provides other domains with virtual device services.the virtual device services include a disk, network, and console. service processor A dedicated processor that has been prepared for controlling and monitoring the SPARC M10 systems. The service processor is mounted in the motherboard unit (MBU) in the SPARC M10-1 and in the CPU memory unit (lower) (CMUL) in the SPARC M10-4/M10-4S.The XSCF firmware is installed on the service processor. slave XSCF An XSCF other than the master XSCF in the SPARC M10-4S with a configuration of multiple XSCFs.Slave XSCF monitors and administrates only the SPARC M10-4S or the crossbar box on which it is mounted. SP to SP communication protocol (SSCP) A protocol used by an internal LAN linking XSCFs, in a building block Glossary 9

18 SSCP configuration. That LAN may also be referred to as SSCP. See SP to SP communication protocol (SSCP). standby XSCF An XSCF that operates as a backup to the master XSCF. If the master XSCF fails, a failover occurs, and the standby XSCF switches to the master XSCF.This enables continuous XSCF operation. system board (PSB) Consists of the physical components (CPU, memory, and I/O) on a single enclosure of the SPARC M10 systems.on the SPARC M10-1 system, CPU, memory and I/O are mounted on the motherboard unit. system control network A network that is used to maintain and manage the SPARC M10 systems. System control network is synonymous with "XSCF network." system-stopped maintenance Maintenance performed with all physical partitions powered off and the input power turned off (power cord unplugged) for the chassis in which the maintenance target FRU is mounted. takeover IP address A virtual IP address that is set for a group made by respectively grouping XSCF-LAN#0 on the master XSCF and standby XSCF, and XSCF-LAN#1 on the master XSCF and standby XSCF. Normally, the LAN#0 and LAN#1 names are set for the takeover IP address. user network A network that is used to run a configured system in business. The user network is configured and connected with the other servers, other PCs, and peripherals that are necessary in business. user privileges Access privileges assigned to XSCF user accounts. The possible operations on the entire system or in a domain are limited according to the assigned user privileges.the user privileges are useradm, platadm, platop, domainadm, domainmgr, domainop, auditadm, auditop, and fieldeng.
