3 Programme Structure The programme comprises 30 credits points (cps). Each course is worth 3cps. Common Core Courses Social Science Education: Epistemological and Conceptual Issues Research Methods for Interdisciplinary Studies Programme Core Courses Greater China in Historical Perspective: Continuity and Change Political Economy of Greater China Education and Society in Greater China: Issues and Perspective Managing Development and Civil Society in Greater China Electives (choose 4 electives course or 2 elective courses and Thesis) Comparative Social Policy in Greater China The Rise of Greater China in the Global Context: Concert and Clash Environment and Sustainable Development in Greater China Imagining Greater China: Culture and Identity Social Science Education: Pedagogical Literacy and Competency Experiencing Greater China: Field Visit Thesis Writing and Research Thesis Project on Greater China Studies Entrepreneurship and Management in Greater China Crime Control in Greater China

4 Entrance Requirement Applicants should normally hold a recognised Bachelor's degree in Arts/Humanities/Social Si Sciences/Inter-disciplinary i Studies (e.g. General Studies, Liberal Studies, Environmental Studies), or degrees in Social Science/Humanities Education. Shortlisted applicants may be required to attend an interview/test. Graduates from other post-graduate programmes can apply for credit exemption. These applications will be considered on individual merits. Applicants whose entrance qualification is obtained from an institution in a non-english speaking system should normally fulfil one of the following minimum English proficiency requirements which may be subject to adjustment: IELTS 6.0; or a TOEFL score of 550 (paper-based test) or 80 (internet-based test) or 215 (computerbased test); or Band 6 in the Chinese Mainland's College English Test (CET) (a total score of no lower than 430 if the test was taken after June 2005); or Other equivalent qualifications.

7 Strong Collaborations The HKIEd has established strong collaborations with leading academic institutions in Mainland China, Taiwan and Macau. The Faculty of Arts and Sciences (FAS) has established a strategic Centre for Greater China Studies to further develop Greater China Studies at the HKIEd to a higher level.

Application fee for local applicants and non-local applicants is HK$150 and HK$300 respectively which is non-refundable and non- transferrable unless the programme in question is cancelled by the Institute.
