After you have registered using the fee waiver then you can send up to four colleges/universities your test scores for free and then also you can obtain online four free fee waivers for college/university applications. See Mrs. Reyna in the Counselors' Office.
2 Things to do in January and/or February Once Students have filed their FAFSA, they should review their Student Aid Report (SAR) for accuracy. Participate in alumni interviews and thank-you notes to interviewers Complete any scholarship applications. Make sure to check the scholarship file weekly in the The Lookout or on Naviance. We usually have active scholarships at a time. +++Local scholarships usually have a better chance of receiving as fewer students apply*** Follow-up with school if you were deferred at early decision. If you haven't taken the SAT/ACT, make plans to take TSI for community college admission. You will need to apply first to the community college and complete a pre-assessment. Student Resume A resume is very helpful to the individual writing a letter of recommendation. We encourage you to provide this information as early as possible so that the person writing your letter of recommendation can do the most accurate and best job in a timely manner. Please include the following:: Student Name Student ID Name(s) of college(s), including the mailing address Career interest &/or future goals Academic awards & other recognition Offices held Volunteer & Community service projects Talents, strengths & interests Names of teachers to be contacted for positive comments Any other information you deem pertinent Extracurricular activities Transcripts and Letters of Recommendation Transcripts for college applications at Naaman Forest are now to be requested through Naviance. The only exception to this is if there is a special circumstance where a paper transcript is needed, please see Mrs. Lackey, the Registrar. Each transcript is $1.00; however, electronic copies and the end of year transcript are free. Page 2 ing daily to fulfil those requests. Letters of Recommendation are very important in the college application and scholarship application process. It is now required to use Naviance for you teacher recommendations specifically for college applications. Once you have tagged a college in college I m applying to, underneath that is a link for teacher recommendations. You will be able to see how A student record release form must be completed and signed authorizing the release of a transcript. You must apply now thru the common app/naviance for college, transcripts are requested thru Naviance and Mrs Lackey will be checkmany recommendations the school requires, maximum that they will accept, and how many have been requested. You will also get an update as the teacher completes them. Remember that persons outside of school, employers, clergy, sponsors and leaders of volunteer organizations are all great resources for letters of recommendation and referrals.

DEADLINE 1/31/ Dr Pepper Snapple Group Scholarship DEADLINE 1/13/ Harris Hill-Dallas Morning News Scholarship Student pursuing a career in Journalism or a related field. $ /31/17 Matthew S Shubzda Memorial Scholarship This scholarship is in honor of the memory of a former NFHS student and is being given to a current graduating NFHS senior who is planning on attending college. See criteria in Naviance. $ /31/ Laura Wycoff Arnold Athletic Scholarship Awarded to a Female graduating senior at NFHS. Applicant must have participated in girls athletics in any capacity. $ /31/17 Think HBCU Scholarship Open to seniors graduating with a B(3.0) or higher who have applied for admission and plan on attending a historically black college or university. $ DEADLINE 2/15/ Carl Luna Scholarship Awarded to graduating senior at one of the seven GISD high schools. $ /31/17 The National High School Essay Contest Your task is to provide recommendations to address the refugee/idp crisis, which you see facing the countries of Turkey, Kenya, Afghanistan or Iraq. $2, DEADLINE 3/15/ Garland Council of PTA s / Future Teacher Scholarship Available to students planning to enter the teaching profession and attend a accredited college or university within the state of Texas DEADLINE 4/1/ Alpha XI Omega Jr College/Community College This scholarship is open to female seniors who are planning t attend a two year college or community college. $ DEADLINE 2/15/ Travis T Lewis Signature Scholarship This $12, scholarship is awarded to a female student from Dallas County, graduating with a B(3.0) or higher and plan to attend a 4 year college or university. DEADLINE 2/15/ Global Lift Equipment Applicants are required to have a 2.5 or higher GPA and also must submit a short story from the viewpoint of an inanimate object. $ DEADLINE 6/15/ Garland Federation of Clubs Scholarship This program is open to GISD seniors and is awarded based on academic record, financial need, personal interview, community/extracurricular activities and reference. DEADLINE 2/3/ NFIB Young Entrepreneur Awards Open to any graduating high school senior who owns and operates his/her own small business. Additionally, the student must enter their freshman year Baylor University Carr P. Collins Scholars Program This program was established to recognize academically gifted students who are dedicated to helping others in an effort to develop leaders of tomorrow through the gift of higher education. Collins Scholars are awarded a minimum of $5050 their freshman year, renewable for three additional years provided they meet program requirements. DEADLINE 1/31/ Texas Engineering Foundation The chapters of the Texas Society of Professional Engineers will award scholarships to students studying to become engineers in an engineering program at an ABET-accredited college or university. DEADLINE 1/9/ Rising Star Program Provides qualified students academic support, career development and up to $4, for tuition and books at a DCCCD College campus.
