1 IBM zenterprise The Modern Mainframe Passado, presente e Futuro Fernando Ferreira ATS - zchampion IBM Academy History and technology are sometimes opposite terms. Why IBM can have history and technology leadership? Why Mainframes with such a long history still relevant and the maiin place for corporate data today? Technology to implement your vision and make the extraordinary possible - get infrastructure efficient and in control with lower run rate - create better systems of engagement - generate the right client insights -create agility and ability to move fast. 1
2 Uma apostas de $5 bilhões de dolares This is the beginning of a new generation not only of computers but of their application in business, science and government. Thomas Watson, Jr. 2 It started with a 5 Billion dollar bet, Make a comparison with the value of money from 1964 and now. In today s money that s around $36 billion.

12 Mainframe hoje Bilhões de transações de negócios por dia. 1.3 milhões Transações CICS a cada segundo todos os dias.. We have looked at just three examples on the previous chart on how the usage of mainframe technology is widespread and how it has helped change the course of industries. The mainframe is widely used across nearly all industries. While many think of the mainframe as being a banking sector system, it is used extensively in retail, insurance, healthcare, government and many other industries. It is estimated that the mainframe runs 30 billion business transactions every day and that we as individuals and businesses use it frequently, we just don t realize it. This lack of realization about the usage of the mainframe is in some respect a good thing. Most organizations have traditionally used the mainframe for core business critical applications, in the back office. It is used because of its scalability to ensure that workload demands can be met, for its security to ensure the business and its clients are protected and for its reliability and availability to ensure key services are available whenever and from wherever a use needs to access them. The fact that the mainframe delivers on these requirements without the end user realizing in many ways makes it a victim of its own success!
13 Nova era de IT Eficiencia e entrega de novos produtos de forma rápida. Analytics Cloud Security Mobile Social Manipulando grandes volumes de dados e gerandoinsights em tempo real Revolucionando o compartilhamento de informações. Ensuring secure transactions and interactions 13 The Mainframe is at the core of IT environments that capture value from all of these opportunities and provide the most robust, flexible and trusted infrastructure. The Mainframe has been designed and continues to evolve, to serve as: The ultimate Analytics engine for instant insight. The foundation for a Mobile and Social enterprise. The platform for superior service at lower cost through Cloud. All on a robust, flexible and Trusted infrastructure These powerful forces are all converging social, mobile, cloud, and big data and analytics. Between 2005 and 2020, the digital universe will grow by a factor of 300, from 130 to 40,000 exabytes. IBM is the most experienced partner to help you and the Mainframe is a core element of the total value we can deliver. ADDITIONAL BACKUP NOTES The IBM zenterprise family has a unique set of capabilities that enable a business to drive innovation and to increase the efficiency of IT. Whether it is helping create a persoanlized customer experience on digital devices or through imbedding analytics in to a business transaction, or helping accelerate the delivery of new services or integrating operations across lines of business within a single system that forms a robust infrastructure, IBM zenterprise can help businesses across industries drive value. We will now take a look at each of the 4 focus areas that CIOs have identifies as key in more detail, starting with analytics Cloud We talk about Cloud, Social, Mobile and Big Data together, because these market forces drive the need for a thoughtful Infrastructure with cloud as a key part of delivering the value promised by a mobile population, generating massive amounts of data, and working collaboratively across boundaries Leaders, we call them Pacesetters, are 136% more likely to use cloud to reinvent customer relationships, 170% more likely to use analytics via the cloud to derive insights and 79% more likely to rely on cloud to locate and leverage expertise anywhere in the ecosystem The future of cloud is not public or private - It is Hybrid. A Dynamic Hybrid environment is where the right infrastructure, defined by software can automate and enable workloads to be managed in the right environment, or across environments The Cloud does not run in the Cloud - the right infrastructure choices matter. Mobile Over the past decade, mobile technology has grown in functionality and popularity to become not only pervasive, but also the preferred method of exchanging information, currency, goods and services for organizations and professionals of all kinds. Far more than simply an emerging consumer channel, mobile includes an ever-growing network of connected devices - like law enforcement surveillance technologies, real-time traffic sensors, remote health monitoring devices, connected automobiles and more. For organizations around the world, these technologies are disrupting traditional business models, providing businesses with

22 System z e o futuro 22 Highest value is gained when we bring systems of engagement and systems of record data together to deliver insight Must be done at cloud scale Must be secure Must get into the flow of data that feeds the systems of insight Will be driven by cognitive systems someday, but for now these systems will train and inform the cognitive engines of the future Last year, we identified the mega trend on confluence of social, mobile, and Cloud, and discussed what this trend meant to us and our clients in the industry. System of Engagement, have already driven enormous transformations, largely driven by social, mobile and cloud, which enable people to interact more dynamically, more rapidly, fluidly than ever before. With direct interaction between enterprise and their customers, or between people within an organization or across organizations, industry players and organizational functions are in flux. But on the positive side, vast amounts of data, potentially very valuable data are being generated, captured, and just beginning to be tapped for insights. At the other end of the spectrum is Systems of Record, more structured static transactions, the traditional data that feeds enterprises businesses today. Value can clearly be obtained from both pools, but it is becoming clear that the highest value is derived when we bring the Systems of Engagement and Systems of Record data together to generate the insights that can only be found when done at the cloud scale. Only doing so will enable us to deeply understand any process or 22
23 >$25 Bilhões de investimentos em evolução e transformação IBM System/360 PR/SM Virtualization CICS, DB2, & IMS Parallel Sysplex Bipolar to CMOS Capacity on Demand Linux Java Hybrid with zbx IBM DB2 Analytics Accelerator IBM zenterprise EC12 & zbc12 Analytics Cloud Security Mobile Social 23 It all started with a $5 billion dollar bet. Each new generation is an investment of more than 1 billion across IBM. So well over $25 Billion has been invested just within IBM to continue to evolve the platform over times ensuring it has always been relevant to current and future needs. Here we show some of the significant innovations on the mainframe over time, almost all of which through co-creation with our clients. Its not technology for technology sake, its because of your requirements, your input, your needs to succeed. Virtualization with PR/SM helping to make z the most efficient system on the planet a true cloud before the term cloud existed in the tech dictionary [Talking about co-creation, IMS was written by one of the defense contractors, a client. And we embraced and took it over] Sysplex for extreme reliability this is clustering in the distributed world today. Bipolar to CMOS to push the edge of processor performance and efficiencies Capacity on Demand to handle unpredictable fluctuations in capacity requirements without manual intervention Opening up Z to Open source movement with Linux on z (built out of boeblingen lab) Java enablement of CICS and IMS and WebSphere to power e-commerce Hybrid computing with zbx and the exclusive ability to support and manage over 8 diff operating environments from a single system (zos, zlinux, zvse, ztpf, zvm, xlinux, Windows, AIX) Deep analytics with IDAA and Netezza on Z To today's modern mainframe, the zec12 and zbc12. The progress we have driven since its original unveiling and the innovation we have delivered is remarkable. Take for example, from the System/360 to today s modern zenterprise. Today s mainframe is faster, has more capacity, is more reliable and more energy efficient than the mainframe of the 60 s, 70 s, 80 s, or even those delivered three years ago in Performance has improved over 78,000% Memory capacity has increased over 786,000x Boasts the industries fastest processor running at an astounding 5.5 GHz To provide the performance of today s mainframe would require a datacenter full of System/360s the size of 10,000 soccer fields (20K American football fields) Our investment and dedication to continuous innovation and ongoing value delivery on z remains steadfast. And are looking ahead to not just the next generation model but the one after that and so on. This evolution, and the reason the mainframe has been able to stay relevant IS because of the co-creation with our clients, all of you. Its building the technology for what you are trying to accomplish.
24 O Mainframe do Futuro Atomic level storage Cognitive Systems Optical circuits Neuro Synaptic chip Analytics Cloud Security Mobile Social Greater parallelism Hybrid clouds Natural intuitive interfaces Self check-pointing and invisible failover Tamper proof processing 24 Atomic level storage Technology research has shown one digital bit of information can be stored using only 12 atoms Memory capacity within systems will grow at very large rates because of technologies like this Multiple operation types can be performed with efficiency because of huge data in memory capability The transaction system and it's large data stores is also a powerful analytics system Optical circuits The mainframe will take advantage of chip technologies that will transform the size and power requirements of physical computing Today's systems rely on electrical signals flowing from point to point - the future could deploy optical circuits, where light transmits the information High speed transmissions at very low power... Could we see the solar powered mainframe?... Greater Parallelism System throughput and scale continue to grow Simultaneous Multi Threading becomes pervasive to the platform and its use for workloads Natural intuitive interfaces The devices humans use to interact with systems will continue to become smaller and will become imbedded within everyday objects - clothing, jewelry, rooms in homes Interaction with them will not require keyboards and screens... voice, hand gestures will be the norm to connect to them Feedback will expand to other senses... Access to the power of the mainframe will be available through these methods You could be "wearing your mainframe on your sleeve"... Tamper proof processing Today's systems rely upon preventing intrusion by unauthorized agents Systems are transforming to elongate the time required to penetrate and to monitor, track, detect and prevent unauthorized actions The future will bring technology to the mainframe that isolates critical data to tamper proof regions - the information cannot be placed into memory areas where the agent can access it All these techniques will continue the history of security that the platform is recognized for Self checkpointing and invisible failover IT analytics is expanding to have systems identify issues before they affect the services for the end user In the future, systems will constantly check point themselves so not only can they predict failure but will take action themselves transparently
