Funded by London Councils A project of the London VAWG Consortium
What is Ascent? Ascent is a partnership within the London Violence Against Women and Girls (VAWG) Consortium, delivering a range of services for survivors of domestic and sexual violence, under six themes, funded by London Councils. Ascent improves service provision for those affected by sexual and domestic violence in London through the provision of frontline services as well as support to voluntary and statutory organisations.
What is the London VAWG Consortium? The London VAWG Consortium is made up of 22 organisations working in partnership to deliver comprehensive, cost effective, high quality services to all communities across London. This innovative partnership strengthens referral pathways across organisations and identifies trends and emerging need.
The six themes of Ascent - Prevention - Advice, counselling, outreach, drop-ins and support for access to services - Domestic and sexual violence helplines - Specialist refuge - Ending harmful practices - Support services to organisations
Prevention This project works with groups of children and young people aged between 9 and 25, offering interactive, arts-based education programmes in primary and secondary schools as well as out-of-school settings. The project enables young people to understand and identify the key elements of healthy and unhealthy relationships, challenge myths and tolerance towards violence, and identify the early warning signs of abuse in relationships. Lead organisation: Tender
Advice, counselling, outreach, drop-ins and support for access to services This project offers free, confidential advice and support by phone, and in person in a confidential space in every London borough. Individual counselling and support groups are also available across London. Services are available in a number of languages, including: English, Turkish, Punjabi, Urdu, Hebrew, Hindi, Bengali, Spanish, Portuguese, French, Farsi, Arabic, Kurdish, Dari, Pashto, Cantonese and Mandarin. This project also provides free and confidential legal advice, information and training and assistance for women with No Recourse to Public Funds. Lead partner: Solace Women s Aid
Domestic and sexual violence helplines This project delivers specialist, integrated helpline services for all survivors of domestic and sexual violence throughout London providing immediate practical and emotional support as well as signposting to other support services. This project will monitor access to refuge services to support the future development of provision in London. Lead partner: Women s Aid
Specialist refuge This project provides pan-london, specialist emergency accommodation and support services to vulnerable women and children affected by sexual and domestic violence with mental health needs, problematic substance use and for women exiting prostitution or with No Recourse to Public Funds. These services provide dedicated, temporary accommodation and work intensively with women to improve their safety and enable them to exit violent and abusive relationships and situations. Lead partner: Ashiana Network
Ending harmful practices This project is delivered by a partnership of 8 specialist organisations working across different black, Asian, minority, ethnic and refugee (BAMER) communities in London with women experiencing female genital mutilation, honour based violence, forced marriage and other harmful practices. Support includes one to one advice and information on rights, entitlements, intensive casework and advocacy support, therapeutic support groups and counselling. The project also works to raise awareness amongst voluntary and statutory agencies and runs workshops and peer mentoring support for young women. Lead organisation: Asian Women s Resource Centre
Support services to organisations This second tier support project aims to address the long term sustainability needs of organisations providing services to those affected by sexual and domestic violence. The project seeks to improve the quality of such services across London by providing a range of training and support. This includes accredited training, expert led training and seminars, BAMER network events, borough surgeries and oneto-one support. The project also provides a range of web-based events and online resources to ensure accessibility to organisations throughout London. Lead organisation: Women s Resource Centre
