5 Word 0 File Menu (Mac) Part of the Menu Bar Exercise : Create a from a Template Open Word, Find the Template and DoubleClick Edit the Type Your Name where it says recipient Insert Today's Date where it says date Save the as "My_Cert" on the desktop and quit Word on PC File=>Save As (My_Cert via Dialog Box); X X (upper Right Corner of Word window) For a new file, it asks to Save, Don t Save, Cancel and quits Word Exercise : Open an ExisEng Open My_Cert PC: Open Word; Click File and select My_Cert from list on the right Mac: Open Word; pull down File menu to recent files and select My_Cert Either: Double Click on the My_Cert Icon on Desktop Change the name of the recipient to "Tim Jones" Drag cursor over your name and type "Tim Jones" Save a new document as New_Cert on Desktop File=>Save As Select the locaeon in the dialog box Name it New_Cert Discussion How would we have done the following Save the change under the current name while keeping Word open? Exit the document without saving the change while keeping Word open? Quit Word while saving the changes with the same name? Quit Word without saving the changes? Exercise 3: Create A File From A Blank Open Word Select Blank as the template Enter this text without using <return> Jack and Jill went up the hill to fetch a pail of water. Jack fell down and broke his crown and Jill came tumbling axer. Exercise 3: ConEnued Skip a few lines and add another text block Type <return> axer each line Humpty Dumpty sat on a wall Humpty Dumpty had a great fall All the King s horses and all the King s men Couldn t put Humpty Dumpty together again 5
6 Using the ruler as a guide, take the print border and move it around. What happens? Demonstrates the effect of <return> which is to always start a new line (or paragraph) Jack and Jill expands/ contracts the lines based on the current margins Leave the tab and margins at 6 for now Effect of <return> Exercise 4: Basic EdiEng Let s turn Jack and Jill into a rhyme a la Humpty Dumpty PosiEon cursor axer hill and type <return> Do the same for water, down & crown Delete all of the periods PosiEon the cursor following the. and type <delete> on the Mac <backspace> on the PC Now capitalize the first leder of each line Use cursor to highlight the lowercase leder and type the uppercase leder How else might we have accomplished this capitalizaeon? Exercise 4: ConEnued Using the Arrow keys to navigate PosiEon Cursor to the first Humpty Add the Etle Humpty Dumpty Type the /tle and <return> <return> Repeat to add the Etle Jake (sic) and Jill Fix Jake Use the mouse to highlight the word Jake Fix the error by typing the word Jack Exercise 4: ConEnued PracEce using the mouse to highlight text Click, drag, release which we have been using Extend the selected area using <shix>click PosiEon cursor anywhere on a word, double click PosiEon cursor anywhere in a paragraph and triple click (selects text between the previous <return> and the following <return>) Replace crown with croen Note the red underline (this indicates a misspelling) <right click> creon, select crown from the opeons On Mac, <control>click is a <right click> Save the file with these changes Review of Mouse AcEons Single Click Select an object or set the insereon point Double Click Open a file or select a word Triple Click Select a paragraph (up to a <return>) Right Click [on Mac: <control>click] Menu of correceon opeons Review of Mouse AcEons (cont) Click and Drag Text seleceon (use click, drag and release) Extend to the right with <shix>click Exact seleceon: Place cursor at first character and single click; Place cursor at final character and <shix>click Select MulEple Text Blocks Select first text block Select other text blocks while pressing <ctrl> [control] on PC <cmd> [command] on Mac 6
