Academic studies I graduated from Lajos Kossuth University (now University of ) in 1971 where I studied English and Russian linguistics and literature. After graduation I got employed at the same university, first at the Department of Russian Linguistics, later, from 1989, at the Department of General and Applied Linguistics. I defended my university doctoral dissertation in 1975 on the topic Modern Russian lexicology. In 1981 I defended my Ph.D.-dissertation at the Hungarian Academy of Sciences (A nyelvi polaritás kifejezése a magyarban. [The expression of linguistic polarity in Hungarian.]). I received my habilitation at the University of in 1998 with the following two lectures: Issues in computational linguistics and Hungarian sentence prosody and Universal Grammar. Recent projects : Interdisciplinary study of recursion in language (OTKA NK 69042, consortium leader) : The theoretical basis of human-machine communication technologies (TÁMOP /1/ , joint EU-Hungary cofinancing, project manager and scientific director) 2012-present: Development of Intelligent functions of hearing aids (Hungarian Academy of sciences, project member; project leader: Istvan Winkler) 2012-present: Basic and applied research to assist the development of speech for the deaf (TÁMOP C-11/1/KONV, joint EU-Hungary cofinancing, project member; project leader: Istvan Sziklai) Ongoing interdisciplinary collaboration (both at national and international level) with linguists, psychologists, engineers and mathematicians in the fields of linguistics, cognitive psychology and cognitive robotics. 6.
