5 VOLUNTEERS GOD BLESS THEM Many will be shocked to find when the Day of Judgment nears. That there's a special place in Heaven set aside for volunteers. Furnished with big recliners, sa n couches and footstools; Where there s no commi ee chairmen, no group leaders or car pools. No eager team that needs a coach, no bazaar and no bake sale; There will be nothing to staple, not one thing to fold or mail. Telephone lists will be outlawed but a finger snap will bring. Cool drinks and gourmet dinners, and rare treats fit for a king. You ask, "Who'll serve these privileged few. And work for all they're worth? Why, all those who reaped the benefits. And not once volunteered on earth! Gene Allelo

6 Mission Statement Our Lady Queen of Martyrs Parish is a Catholic faith community in the Diocese of Venice in Florida under the care of the Franciscan Friars of the Third Order Regular. Each of us is called by baptism to proclaim the Good News of Jesus Christ to our own and to all with whom we come in contact regardless of race, color or creed. Our sacramental life touches each person from birth to death and our charity reaches out to all members of God's family. Our Lady Queen of Martyrs Parish family worships in an attractive church on a peaceful and beautifully kept complex. All who seek God are welcome to become a member of our parish family. I welcome you to our parish family and I hope that you will see the advantage of getting involved with the many ministries and activities that your parish has to offer. We have lively and enriching liturgies and offer a variety of social, educational and spiritual events for you to attend or get involved in. The parish has been here since October 23, 1959 when Archbishop Hurley established it. We had masses in the Holiday Inn until the new church was built; now known as Fr. Flynn Hall. The present church was dedicated in 1984 and has been in constant use since that time. At present, the Franciscan Friars of the Third Order Regular administer and serve the parish community, along with the wonderful help of some retired priests. We look forward to your worshipping with us and adding your talents and gifts to our wonderful faith family.

8 ALTAR SERVERS I will go to the altar of my God to adore Him and praise Him. May my service show that I love Him. This is the prayer of altar servers prior to Mass. Servers are ministers who assist the presider at Mass. Their duties include carrying the processional cross at the beginning and end of Mass, holding the book for the Celebrant, and washing of the hands ect. Any young boy or girl who has received first communion may train to become an altar server. Please call Gina Young for more information. Adult Altar Servers can contact Jack McNeeley Adult Altar Servers are needed at the Daily Mass, Holy Daytime Masses and occasional on Sundays.

9 ARTS AND ENVIRONMENT The abilities of sight, taste, touch, hearing and sound are things we take for granted. The purpose of the Art s and Environment Committee is to enhance these senses in our everyday celebrations as a faith community. Through our liturgies we as a practicing Christ centered community are touched by God. --"In order to communicate the message entrusted to us by Christ, the Church needs art. Art must make perceptible, and as far as possible attractive, the world of the spirit, of the invisible, of God. It must therefore translate into meaningful terms that which is in itself ineffable. Art has a unique capacity to take one or another facet of the message and translate it into colors, shapes and sounds that nourish the intuition of those who look or listen. It does so without emptying the message itself of its transcendent value and aura of mystery." Pope John Paul II, letter to Artists, #12 Please contact the following for more information Lesyle Frankart -( ) OLQM_AE_HM@outlook.com Joann DeSerio
