The Nature of Today s Hospital Data and Its Storage Requirements Modern medical technology has become dependent on the ability to collect and store patient records, image and video files, and a vast variety of document types. There are also more subspecialties today, so a single patient may have many care providers focused on different aspects of the patient s total care. The inevitable result is the proliferation of data at an astounding rate. Much of this data is unstructured, and is managed by a variety of disparate applications and systems. What Dedupe 2.0 Offers This newer principle in deduplication differs from previous approaches in that deduplication starts at the point where data is produced. Dedupe 1.0 was focused exclusively on optimizing storage at the target device. Version 1.5 built on that by equipping backup servers with the ability to send only incremental data to the target. With Dedupe 2.0 this approach has now been made even more efficient with the addition of production servers that have awareness of what data has already been through the deduplication process. Data restores as well as backups are both faster and more efficient. The added benefit of slower aggregation of data, which frees up more storage resources after deduplication, is also significant. Dedupe 2.0 is accomplished by leveraging HP StoreOnce appliances, HP Data Protector 8 and HP Autonomy LiveVault and/ or Connect capabilities. For virtual environment protection we feature Veeam Back-up with StoreOnce. For Healthcare specific backup/restore, especially the MEDITECH application environment, we might recommend that you implement BridgeHead Software solutions which implement StoreOnce. For Hybrid and cloud based advanced back-up/restore capabilities we again would recommend Autonomy Protection Suite products and services.
