This all-digital modular system for transmitting CD-quality audio over T1/E1 circuits is designed to convey audio in its cleanest, purest form with no compression reliably, economically and with the maximum amount of flexibility. An open-architecture system, the Starlink SL9003T1 lets you take advantage of dedicated T1/E1 Telco or 5.8 GHz unlicensed band radios for STL/TSL bi-directional applications. Its building block approach allows you to configure to your exact requirements with room to grow as your needs change. With world-class design versatile audio and multiplex modules, the Starlink SL9003T1 offers you easy and seamless connectivity to the outside world. The mainframe can house up to eight application-specific modules. Creating a custom Starlink SL9003T1 is just a matter of choosing the appropriate personality modules and daughter cards. Linear digital audio can be delivered by using the SL9000SE and SL9000SD source encoder and decoder modules. Full duplex bi-directional T1/E1 audio transmission is possible by addition of another source encoder and decoder pair. 3 Network Management Most parameters of the Starlink 9003T1 and its personality modules are programmable from either the front panel or the Windowsbased Graphic Interface software. 4 Personality Modules Source Encoder/Decoder The stereo source encoder and decoder modules allow for 16-bit linear PCM at 32, 44.1 or 48 khz sample rates. Optional MODULES Source Encoder, 16-bit linear PCM audio encoding module; AES/EBU input / output, sample rate converter 32, 44.1, or 48 khz (includes daughter card for discrete XLR audio inputs / outputs); test tone generator. Source Decoder (mate for encoder), 16-bit linear decoding, AES/EBU and analog outputs available simultaneously. 6-Port Digital Multiplexer combines signals from the source encoders and decoders with signals from up to six optional daughter cards for transport on a T1/E1 line. Daughter cards include FXO/FXS telephone, 4-wire E&M voice, RS-232, 10/100 BASE-T Ethernet, V.35 ISO/MPEG coding can be added to convey additional compressed audio channels. Both modules accept and deliver both analog left and right and AES/EBU digital audio (loss of AES/EBU input will cause an automatic switch to analog). Intelligent Mul ti plex er The multiplex card acts as the controller and contains the T1 CSU or E1 interface. A single multiplex eliminates multiple levels of framing while significantly increasing throughput. Additional multiplex cards can be added for more channels. Each multiplex can host plug-in daughter cards used to transmit six additional highspeed data streams of voice, or data at rates up to the available aggregate rate. Channel Service Unit (CSU) All SL9003T1 systems contain an internal 6-port mux with internal CSU configured for industry standard B8ZS coding and D4 or ESF framing. 5 Daughter Cards For Encoders/Decoders To convey additional stereo pairs in Mbps source coding algorithms are necessary. ISO/MPEG Layer II is based on the psychoacoustic properties of the human ear, in particular spectral masking, to reduce perceived loss while maintaining coding efficiency. For Multiplex Each of the six ports can be used for either data or voice. Asynchronous, synchronous and Ethernet data, 2W FXO/FXS, 4W and E&M signaling are all supported. Digital Line Drivers and CSU A choice of RS-449/EIA530 or V.11/V.35 cards can connect the mux or source encoder/decoder with external digital circuits/lines. These line drivers and the multiplex provide time-slot assignments and channel-associated signaling between terminals, ensuring precision conveyance of audio material.
