7 Modification of the AA Degree Paths in Criminal Justice Program This degree program has used topic courses in place of degree program courses for some time. Courses in the degree path have been allowed to sunset. This is causing much difficulty in determining when a student completes a program due to the topic courses requiring administrative tasks to convert them to program core courses. Additionally, this program has a course articulation agreement with Western New Mexico University s (WNMU) Bachelor of Science degree program in Criminal Justice. WNMU is having similar difficulties in attempting to credit the topic courses to their Criminal Justice program. In order to align our students more to a four year degree in Criminal Justice slight modifications of degree core courses are being completed. Courses in degree paths will be renamed to better transfer to WNMU and other four year universities in the New Mexico Criminal Justice pact including Eastern New Mexico University. The course content remains the same. Courses not in use anymore with this program can be deleted if not already. A teach out plan will be developed in order to phase out the AAS Criminal Justice degree currently with enrolled students leaving us two pathways: AA Law Enforcement pathway : AA Corrections pathway. Budget Implications The CRJS program has a Center of Career and Technology (CCTE) program within it. Any program carrying a successful CCTE program requires additional faculty for that CCTE program. Currently the one full time CRJS faculty member is covering all but one course in CCTE and the college portion as well. While there are two part time instructors, there teaching load is limited to three courses in the Two AA degree paths in the CRJS program. Additionally, this program has a Law Enforcement AA Degree and a Corrections AA degree. One more additional full time faculty member is suggested for this program for a total of two full time faculty members.
