1 Miguel R. Acosta Miguel began his legal career as a JAG with the United States Air Force. He spent four and a half years on active duty and still currently serves as a major in the Florida Air National Guard. He deployed to Iraq in 2009 for six months. After leaving active duty, Miguel clerked at the federal court in Orlando and later joined Gobel Flakes, LLC (a litigation law firm) in This year he served as the co-chair of the YLS Social Committee. He is a board member of a local homeless prevention nonprofit. Miguel also volunteers on Saturdays for the Legal Aid Society of the OCBA. Miguel received his undergraduate degree magna cum laude from the University of Tampa and graduated from Florida State University College of Law in 2007 cum laude. In college and law school, he held a number of leadership positions with several different clubs and organizations. Keshara D. Davis I am a Senior Attorney in the Lawyer Regulation Division of The Florida Bar. I have had the privilege of serving on the YLS board of directors since January My involvement with the YLS includes, currently serving as the Secretary and YLS board liaison to the Legal Aid Society of the OCBA. I also chaired the Backpack Project Committee for three years, served on the Law Clerks Reception Committee, and volunteered as a YLS mentor in the Mentor/Mentee program. I am also active in other voluntary bar organizations including the Central Florida Association for Women Lawyers (CFAWL) and the Paul C. Perkins Bar Association. I would greatly appreciate the opportunity to serve on the YLS board for another term. If elected, I will continue to work diligently with the other members of the board to carry on the positive endeavors of the YLS. Thank you for your time and consideration.
2 Michael L. Dear I am a partner at Railey, Harding & Allen, P.A. in Orlando. I am an active member of the YLS and in the past year have served as assistant chair of the Young Lawyer and Law Clerk Reception (2014), co-chair of the YLS Holiday Party (2014), and as the current chair of the Young Lawyer and Law Clerk Reception (2015). If elected I would work to further the YLS s mission statement and its goals of professional and ethical development of YLS members, community and charitable outreach, and enhancement of the legal profession. Whether elected to the YLS board or not, I plan to continue my participation in our OCBA YLS and look forward to adding value to the organization over the next two years. Steven W. Ferrell, Jr. Steve Ferrell is a commercial litigation associate at Burr & Forman LLP. He is an Air Force Veteran and a father to an eight month old. He spent his first year as a lawyer just trying to figure out how to be a lawyer. During that time, he was also co-captain of a JDRF Walk-A-Thon team that raised over $2,000. You may have also met him at one of the many OCBA and Florida Bar events he attended over the last year and a half. Steve is now choosing to become more involved with the OCBA so that he can learn more about his legal community and give back to the community that has been so accepting and helpful to him and his family as transplants to the Orlando area. As such, Steve has begun participating with the Business Law Committee and asks for your vote for At-Large Board Member.
3 Brock A. Hankins My name is Brock Hankins and I am running to be an At-Large Board Member of YLS. The foundation of every position I ve held is being a trustworthy and diligent servant to the organization. I would serve YLS with that foundation as an At- Large Board Member and ask for your vote. Since beginning work for Allen, Dyer, Doppelt, Milbrath & Gilchrist P.A. I have been actively involved in YLS. I currently serve on the Community Service and the Evening with the Judiciary Committees. In these roles I have volunteered for the Thanksgiving Basket Brigade, the WRCC Mock Trial, and Halloween Party, and am helping coordinate this coming Evening with the Judiciary Party. I also planned the successful first annual Holiday Party for the children at the Women s Residential Counseling Center. Kanouse, Jr. Keith Kanouse Jr. is an associate with Hayes Law, PL with a focus in commercial litigation and technology law. He received his undergraduate degree in Information Science from University of Florida in 2000 and in 2011 graduated cum laude from Barry University School of Law. In between, Keith worked in the field of business systems consulting and technology recruiting. Keith is a native Floridian and third generation attorney. He has been active in YLS since his last year of law school and was the primary YLS point of contact with participants and sponsors for last year s YLS Golf tournament, which raised a record amount of money. His is the co-chair to this year s YLS dodgeball and YLS golf tournament and serves as Secretary to the Barry Law School Alumni Association. He is also active with numerous committees to the OCBA and Florida Bar and has presented CLEs to both organizations.
4 Jennifer L. Morando Candidate for At-Large Board Courtney D. Richardson-Jones Courtney Richardson-Jones was born in Virginia and moved to Florida at the age of 10. She has made Florida home by completing her secondary education, practicing law, serving her community and starting a family of her own. In the fall of 2007, she graduated from the University of Florida with a bachelors degree in English and a minor in education. She was active in many organizations in law school, including the Black Law Students Association, Student Bar Association, Law School Allocations Committee, and the Entertainment Law Club before receiving her J.D. in 2011 from The Florida State University. She currently serves the people as a prosecutor for the Ninth Circuit State Attorney s Office. Her commitment to service continues as the dance leader at her church, a volunteer with their monthly outreach program and a member of the OCBA. She chaired the YLS IDignity event in 2014 and looks forward to having a more active role in YLS this year.
5 Rafael O. Rodriguez I have been a member of the YLS since During that time I have practiced in the areas of criminal and civil litigation with over four years as a Prosecutor here in the Ninth Judicial Circuit. I am originally from the Orlando area and received my dual-bachelor degrees from the University of Florida, and attended Barry University Law School. As a member of the YLS I have participated in the numerous activities that are put on each year and recently served as a committee member for the Young Lawyers and Law Clerks reception which was a great success. I will also be one of the two Social Chairs for the upcoming year. In my free time, I enjoy practicing and teaching martial arts, running, and participating in church activities. My wife, Sarah Rodriguez, and I also spend the vast majority of our time with our beautiful daughter Arianna. Jodi Ruberg Jodi Ruberg is an associate attorney at Marshall, Dennehey, Warner Coleman & Goggin where she practices civil defense. Jodi is active in YLS and the Central Florida community. Jodi was the chairperson of the YLS Thanksgiving Basket Brigade fundraiser and was the chairperson to organize YLS' participation in the Central Florida Basket Brigade which delivered over 700 baskets of Thanksgiving food items to deserving families in Central Florida. She is also a member of the YLS Community Service and Great Oaks Village Committees. Jodi graduated from University of Central Florida in 2007 with a B.S. in Business Management and Hospitality Management. At UCF, she advocated for her colleagues as a Student Government Senator and she was on the women's rowing team. Jodi graduated in 2012 from Florida State University College of Law where she was active in student government, and she was the relations director for the Women's Law Symposium.
6 Amanda M. Sampaio Amanda has been practicing law in the Orlando area for more than eight years. After receiving her law degree from Florida State University, she began practicing criminal defense at the Public Defender's Office, where she tried cases for six years. She spent two years working at a private firm and then opened her own practice in July of Amanda is very active in the legal community and has been involved with YLS for several years. She has participated the Mentorship Program, she is chair of the Dodgeball Tournament, and she assisted with the YLS Golf Tournament. She also does pro bono work for the OCBA s Legal Aid Society, serves as vice president of CFACDL, and is an active member of CFAWL. Amanda has been named as a Top 100 Trial Lawyer by the National Trial Lawyers Association, and she is currently a candidate to become board certified in criminal trial law. Ryan P. Scordato My name is Ryan Paul Scordato, and I am a civil trial lawyer with O'Connor & O'Connor, LLC. My practice primarily focuses on construction, corporate, commercial, and personal injury litigation. I have been extensively involved in the YLS, currently holding leadership positions as co-chair of the 2015 Golf Tournament committee (and co-chair in 2014), and also past co-chair of the 2013 New Membership Committee. Further, I served on the 2014 Young Lawyers and Law Clerks Reception Committee, 2014 Holiday Party Committee, and 2014 New Membership Committee. Outside of the OCBA, I have been a board member at the Christian Service Center since 2011, and currently chair two committees. In 2012, I served on the committee for the Make-A-Wish Foundation Golf Classic, and in the fall of 2013 I participated in the Muscular Dystrophy Association's "Lock-Up" program. I am thrilled to have an opportunity to further my service on the YLS Board.
7 Jill D. Simon I m a Senior Associate with the law firm of Lowndes, Drosdick, Doster, Kantor & Reed, P.A. I am a current member of the YLS Board, and I ve been actively involved with the YLS for the past six years. During my term on the YLS Board, I served as Communications Coordinator and as a Member-At-Large. As Communications Coordinator, I wrote monthly columns for The Briefs and assisted with monthly YLS luncheons. I have also served as a member of the Public Relations Committee and as the Board Liaison for several YLS charitable projects and social events, including the High School Speech & Debate Competition and the Law Clerks Reception. Prior to my election as a board member, I worked on numerous committees, and I served as the chair of the Law Clerks Reception Committee for several years.
