1 Bachelor Degree Programme Nursing Module Manual 1 - Official Version - 1 The module manual constitutes the subject-specific provisions of the Bachelor Degree Programme Nursing and is Part II of the Framework of Regulations for the Bachelor's Examinations at the Hochschule für Gesundheit (University of Applied Sciences) dated 27 September 2010, pursuant to Article 2 paragraph 4 and Article 64 paragraph 1 of the Universities and Colleges Act of North Rhine- Westphalia (Higher Education Act (HG)), as amended on January 1, 2007.
2 On the basis of Article 2, paragraph 4, clause 1, Article 28 paragraph 1 clause 2 and Article 64 paragraph 1 clause 1 of the Universities and Colleges Act of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia (Higher Education Act - HG) dated October 31, 2006 (GV. NRW. page 474), as last amended by Article 2 of the Act on the Structure of the University of Applied Sciences for Health Professions in North Rhine-Westphalia (University of Health Sciences Act) of October 8, 2009 (GV. NRW. page 516) in conjunction with Article 15 paragraph 1 of the Constitution of the Hochschule für Gesundheit (University of Applied Sciences) of October 7, 2011, the Department Conference has issued the following regulations in fulfilment of the tasks of the Faculty Council of the Hochschule für Gesundheit (University of Applied Sciences): Appendix 1

6 Modules: PF 15 Module title: Health and nursing care for people with disorders of the musculoskeletal, cardiovascular systems and infectious diseases Responsible for the module: The person responsible for the module will be announced in good time Qualification level: Bachelor of Science Credit points: 8 ECTS Duration and frequency: Once / academic year Cross-semester 4 hours per week in the summer semester 5 hours per week in the winter semester Qualification aims / skills: Study semester: Summer semester (winter semester) Total workload: 240 hours Participation conditions: None Type of module: Compulsory Attendance time: 80 hours summer semester 70 hours winter semester Self-learning time: 40 hours summer semester 50 hours winter semester Language German Extending knowledge Graduates have comprehensive knowledge of the basics of nursing, medical science, pharmacology and the law required for the care of people with disorders of the musculoskeletal and cardiovascular systems, as well as infectious diseases. They know the importance of ethical principles and are able to describe them. Consolidating knowledge Graduates are in a position to explain the nursing care measures necessary for the stated health problems by means of an example. They are also in a position on the basis of findings contained in specialist literature to critically scrutinise the relationships within nursing care, as well as legal and ethical requirements. In this context they are aware that the care of people with diseases of the musculoskeletal and cardiovascular systems, as well as those with infectious diseases, relates not only to physical functions, but is to be understood in the context of the individual, social and cultural situation. Instrumental competences Graduates have the skills to perform, substantiate and evaluate bandaging techniques, as well as the pre- and postoperative care of people with musculoskeletal diseases and diseases of the cardiovascular system (at least on models) and infectious diseases, on the basis of nursing science, legal and hygiene standards and guidelines and using nursing care aids/ medical devices. They are also in a position to see these with reference to their own lives and to take into account the right of self-determination and the individual situation. Systemic competences Graduates gather and evaluate relevant information for the nursing needs of people with diseases of the musculoskeletal and cardiovascular systems, as well as infectious diseases, and use it to respond to scientific and/or case-related issues. They are able to evaluate and interpret relevant information, taking into account nursing, hygiene, ethical and legal requirements, and derive an informed judgement from it. Communicative competences They are in a position to communicate appropriately with colleagues and other professional groups involved in care by objectively sharing important information and the point of view of those requiring nursing, carers and/or relatives. They are able to exchange views with patients/clients about their observations and nursing measures, to inform patients/clients/relatives and carers about these and thereby identify and take into consideration the needs of patients/clients.
7 Contents of the module: Care of individuals with disorders of the musculoskeletal system Bandaging/dressing techniques Pre- and postoperative care Medical basics, such as surgical and orthopaedic aspects Care of people with infectious diseases Care of people with HIV/AIDS Infection Protection Act Care of individuals with disorders of the cardiovascular system Medical reference, such as internal medicine, paediatric, surgical aspects Pharmacological aspects Type of course(s): Learning forms: Requirements for the award of credit points (module examination, scope and duration of the examination): Lectures, seminars, practical exercises (including selfexperience), guided group work. The exact nature of the courses will be announced at the beginning of the semester. Practical exercises to be carried out at co-operating health care facilities under the supervision of professionally qualified practical instructors. Lectures by instructors, practical exercises, self-study (if necessary in learning groups). The specific forms of learning will be announced at the beginning of the semester. Defined combined examination: Performance examination The time allowed for the combined examination of the module is specified in the Annex to this module description. Applicability of the module The module examination relates to the contents of the courses on which the module is based (overall examination/review examination). B. Sc. They know the importance of ethical principles in caring for people in problematic existential and/or health situations and are able to describe them. 9 Caring for people with burns and scalds of all ages Palliative care Nursing individuals of all ages suffering from pain Interventions in pain management Care of people of all ages with physical problems caused by tumours Prophylaxis and treatment of side-effects caused by radiology, chemotherapy and hormone therapy Providing assistance with bone marrow punctures Possibilities of self-help and counselling for cancer patients and their families Dying in the socio-cultural and religious context Interaction with the dying and their families Nursing tasks after death Ethical questions at the end of life Hospices Legal references Living will Type of course(s): Lectures, seminars, practical exercises (including selfexperience), guided group work. Learning forms: Requirements for the award of credit points (module examination, scope and duration of the examination): Applicability of the module Practical exercises to be carried out at co-operating health care facilities under the supervision of professionally qualified practical instructors. The weighting of the performance in individual subjects for the overall mark of the module is specified in the Annex to this module description.
