This course will equip you with the knowledge and skills to work in office positions such as office junior, data entry operator, administration assistant, records officer or receptionist. During this course, students also have the opportunity to study for the award of the National Certificate in Business Administration and Computing (Level 3). There is also the option of studying part-time. PRACTICAL LEARNING Working in groups with discussions and role-play, theory comes alive through practical exercises. For example, when learning about employment relations you will conduct simulated individual contract bargaining, drafting up employment agreements while negotiating terms. In a human resources exercise, you will sit on an employment panel in a simulated interview situation. This course has been developed in consultation with industry, and will equip you with the skills to work in areas such as marketing, management, accounts, market research or within small businesses. 13 NEW ZEALAND DIPLOMA IN BUSINESS (LEVEL 6) BS0864 Duration: Starts February or July for two years Study: Full-time or part-time equivalent Location: Hamilton City Campus If you want to pursue a career in accounting, business, management, marketing, finance or human resources, then this programme for you. From here, you can continue to study towards the Bachelor of Applied. You will need to complete a total of twelve modules. Core Modules You ll choose a minimum of six of the following seven modules: Accounting Principles Introduction to Commercial Law The Economic Environment Organisation and Fundamentals of Marketing Business Computing Business Communication You ll then study modules from the management, marketing or accounting streams. This Diploma also meets the academic criteria for entry to the NZICA College of Accounting Technicians. INTERACTIVE LEARNING ENVIRONMENT At the Centre for Business, IT and Enterprise you learn in a diverse and interactive study environment using advanced learning tools and the latest software. Your tutors are industry experienced and guest speakers from the business world are regular visitors. 14 PROGRAMMES BACHELOR OF APPLIED MANAGEMENT* BI1401 Duration: Starts February or July for three years Study: Full-time or part-time equivalent Location: Hamilton City Campus If you have the drive to succeed, and can see yourself fitting right into business activity or an office environment, then the Bachelor of Applied programme could be right for you. All students in their final year of study will complete the Co-operative Education Project (CEP)+. This gives you an opportunity to be placed in industry, gain valuable work experience and complete an agreed piece of research, increasing the chances of employment when you graduate. The practical focus of this degree, and the interactive classes will help you build strong one-on-one learning relationships with your tutors. You can choose to specialise (major) in: Accounting Strategic Human Resource Sales and Marketing Operations and Production Event Retail * The flexible degree structure allows you to choose one major with a range of elective modules, or you can do a double major within three years. There are two accounting pathways to choose from - the New Zealand Institute of Chartered Accountants/CPA Australia (NZICA/CPA) pathway+, which prepares you to become a Chartered Accountant, or the non-nzica/cpa pathway, which has greater flexibility. Strategic With this major, you ll gain specialist skills in business strategy that open industry doors and career opportunities. You ll understand the threats a business faces both internally and in the market place.
