1 OUT AND ABOUT This weekend, September Budapest Design Week What: Budapest Design Week is held every fall citywide and is open to both the public and the design industry, attracting over 60,000 people annually. This year s event, the ninth in succession, will take place between September 27th and October 6th. The slogan of the 2013 program is 'Crossovers', featuring how contemporary design interacts with architecture, applied arts and digital technology. Design Terminal's newly opened building on Erzsébet Square hosts the festival-opening exhibition. Open Studios, a successful initiative by Design Terminal, opens the doors of 14 Hungarian design workshops to the general public. The aim is to introduce the work of featured Hungarian designers through real world examples. The Open Studios initiative is also an opportunity for designers to interact with visitors, answer questions, and provide an insight into their daily activities. In 2013, as part of the tradition, 72 shops, showrooms, designer workshops and galleries will offer their products at a 20% discount during the 10-day event. 2 - Design Market What: The newest community design market of Budapest, Design Passage or DiP, took up residence in Central Passage, the new home of Gödör Klub. DiP, Budapest s latest design market was organized from the bottom up, initiated and supported by the designers, featuring the selected works of outstanding designers. You ll find clothes, jewelry, accessories, illustrations, interior design objects and toys in the wide and varied selection on offer. DiP has a real community feel to it, it s not just about shopping, but chatting to designers, making new connections downtown, only a few feet away from Deák Square. DiP Design Passage is also collaborating with Gardrób Community Clothes Market and the Közös Piac community farmer s market. So you can refresh you autumn wardrobe, and buy fruits, vegetables and all sorts of homemade produce at the same time. The event will also coincide with Királyi Vásár, a street market all along Király Street. When: Saturday and Sunday, 10:00 am to 5:00 pm Where: Website in English: - Royal Fair What: The 'Királyi Vásár' (Royal Fair) takes place on Király (king) Street. It is a flee market-like fair with many different vendors, food, wine and live music. 3 Where: district 6, Király utca Website in English: - Cultural Royal Days What: The Királyi Vásár has outgrown Király utca and will spill out onto Erzsébet tér this weekend, where it transforms into a cultural event. The foreign guest of honor will be the city of Berlin, which means there will be traditional German music and dancing. There will also be Samba dancing with dancers from the Brazil Cultural Center accompanied by Capoeira drummers, a Chardash flashmob, children s programs, an lots more. Artisan workshops playing a significant role in rehabilitation are presented: they provide professional training and background to the participating artists, and concurrently offer manufacturing capacity in addition to a promise of social integration. During Design Week, this table is set to move to Budapest for 2 days to accommodate several programs. On Saturday, various delicacies will be laid on the table in the framework of WAMP Gastro. In addition to the traditional two-day international design fair organized during Design Week, visitors can participate in interactive presentations: acclaimed Hungarian and international speakers with expertise in the field of marketing, design and communication share their opinion, vision about the birth, the role and the effect of design.
