3 PENDAHULUAN Buku ini adalah terbitan ke enam dalam siri terbitan kamus bergambar tiga bahasa Jabatan Muzium Sabah. Ia adalah dalam bahasa, Bahasa Malaysia dan Bahasa Inggeris dan menggambarkan aspek-aspek bahasa dan kebudayaan suku kaum. Saya ingin mengucapkan terima kasih kepada persatuan TOBISA, khususnya Presiden Ybhg. En. Muji Ampau yang telah memberi galakan dalam usaha membuat buku ini, kepada Institut Linguisitik SIL, khususnya kepada Cik Gill Buck di atas bantuannya dalam penyusunan buku ini, dan kepada kakitangan Muzium Sabah yang turut membantu menyediakannya untuk penerbitan. Kami berharap agar dengan adanya kerjasama yang berterusan dari pihak SIL serta badan-badan yang berminat, maka lebih banyak lagi buku-buku kamus bergambar seperti ini dapat dihasilkan daripada penduduk penduduk negeri Sabah yang terdiri dari berbagai kumpulan etnik. It is in the language, Malay and English and reflects aspects of both the language and the culture of the people. I would like to thank TOBISA, especially President Muji Ampau for giving encouragement throughout the making of this book, to SIL. especially Gill Buck for her help in compiling this book, and the staff members of the Sabah Museum who assisted in preparing it for publication. It is our hope that with the continuing assistance of SIL International, as well as other interested bodies, many more picture dictionaries like this one can be produced from the diverse ethnic groups of Sabah. 5 PENGENALAN Buku ini mengandungi bahasa, bahasa Malaysia dan bahasa Inggeris. Bahasa adalah bahasa pertuturan masyarakat. Kawasan perkampungan masyarakat terletak di daerah Kota Belud, Kota Marudu, Kudat dan Inanam. Buku ini dibuat supaya ahli masyarakat boleh belajar nama banyak benda dalam bahasa ibunda, bahasa Malaysia dan bahasa Inggeris. Diharapkan terbitan ini, iaitu satu daripada terbitan yang pertama dalam bahasa dapat membantu agar bahasa terus terpelihara untuk generasi akan datang. Setinggi-tinggi penghargaan dan terima kasih diucapkan kepada Ybhg. En. Muji Ampau, Presiden Persatuan Bersatu Sabah (TOBISA) yang telah memberi galakan dan mendokong segala usaha yang telah dijalankan oleh Biro Bahasa dalam projek bahasa. 6 INTRODUCTION This book contains, Malay and English. is the language spoken by the community whose villages are located primarily in the districts of Kota Belud, Kota Marudu, Kudat and Inanam. It has been produced so that members of the community can learn the names of many objects in their language, in Malay and English. It is hoped that this publication, one of the first in the language, will assist in preserving the language for future generations. Our grateful thanks to the honorable Muji Ampau, President of TOBISA who has encouraged and fully supported all that has been done by the Language Committee. We are grateful also to Ms Gill Buck, a linguist from UK working with SIL International, Malaysia Branch who has assisted with the checking of spelling and layout. This picture dictionary is the first undertaking of the Language Committee and has involved the co-operation of many people from a number of villages especially the members of the Language Committee. This list included Mr. Abar Gumpai, Mr. Kamijan Mositur, Mr. Gurubot Madasin, Mr. Timis Sambadi, Mr. Gumpai Beringgit, Mr. Sidam Belugu, Mr. Shawi Sombolon, Ms. Sylvia Santing, Mr. James Sigoh and others. More than half of the pictures have been printed with the permission of the Kadazan Language Foundation and the Sabah Society.
