1 BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION MBA MASTER OF BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION
2 WHY EARN AN MBA? Earning an MBA provides individuals with greater career opportunities. An MBA is a versatile degree that opens the door to a number of different positions within a wide-range of organizations making finding the right job easier. MBA degree holders graduate with a well-rounded set of skill and knowledge in the areas of finance, management, accounting, marketing, international business and entrepreneurship. Career advancement is a significant benefit to receiving an MBA. Research shows that individuals with an MBA move up the promotional ladder quicker than those without one. Individuals with an MBA have a greater lifetime earnings potential. Statistics show that graduates of an MBA program have the ability to earn significantly more than those with a bachelor s degree. SVSU s low tuition rate coupled with a higher lifetime earnings potential makes earning an MBA a greater return on your educational investment. MBA degree holders advance into career positions including, but not limited to, financial analyst, financial officer, investment banker, human resource manager, operations manager, supply chain manager, accountant, controller, financial accounting consultant, project manager, information technology manager, marketing manager, public relations specialist, communications specialist, advertising executive, marketing analyst, international relations specialist, business owner, and CEO. Don t take our word for it... read what Cass Ferris has to say about his experience in the MBA program at SVSU...
3 MEET Cass Ferris (1989, B.B.A., bachelors of business management; management major, economics minor) suggested to him that the value of an SVSU MBA degree would serve him well. Ultimately, that value was so much more than convenience and a degree. Thanks to the global diversity in his classes, Cass was able to see things through different cultural lenses. Additionally, the graduate level work enabled him to engage in different kinds of thinking. Conceptual thinking was exciting, he notes. Learning to apply concepts to the workplace, thinking more broadly and critically, and looking at different applicable options of theory to business were some of Cass s greatest experiences. Cass Ferris had thought a long time about returning to school and getting his MBA; it was something he always wanted to do. But for many years, that little voice in his head gave him excuses to put it off I ve been out of school too long I ll have to take the GMAT; what if I don t pass?. The kids are too young. I already have a full-time job; how in the world will I find the time for graduate school? Sometime after Cass obtained employment with Morley Companies in 2001, a new voice, a louder voice told him it was time. Cass studied for the GMAT, reminded himself of the convenience of SVSU s location to his home and work, noted that the classes were all held in the evening, and enrolled in SVSU s MBA program. Why SVSU s MBA: At the start, the simple fact that SVSU was so convenient was a big reason behind Cass s choice. That and the fact that he had a solid undergraduate experience at SVSU in the College of Business and Management A Non-Traditional Student: Cass confesses that as he entered the program, he approached the first class with mild expectations. He thought, I have had 20 years of experience in business; what am I going to learn? Looking back, Cass laughs and says it took minutes for me to realize that the [business] world is so much bigger than what I had ever thought or been exposed to; almost immediately, my horizons were expanded. Expectations Met/Expectations Exceeded: Cass completed his MBA in 2006 and has stayed connected to the College of Business & Management. He has served on the College s Advisory Board and forged a personal friendship with George Puia, associate dean of the College and Dow Chemical Company Centennial Chair in Global Business. Cass Ferris a member of the Sr. Management team at Morley Companies, Inc., and has been a key contributor to the company s significant growth over the past several years. He now serves as the Director of Interactive Services. In this role, Cass has the responsibility for all Interactive (Business Process Outsourcing) client programs as well as all of Morley s Research operations. These areas engage in work related to business process management, online transaction management, customer satisfaction research and social media management. Morley is currently celebrating its 150th Anniversary in the mid-michigan region and is the largest employer in Saginaw Township and the fourth largest employer in Saginaw County.
4 MASTER OF BUSINES The Master of Business Administration (MBA) program prepares students with the knowledge necessary to become leaders in profit and nonprofit organizations operating in a complex global economy.
