Registration Committee Protected titles The Registrar shall meet with representatives of the Association of of the Northwest Territories to review applications The Registrar and the representatives each provide recommendation on the applicant s eligibility to the Minister The Minister considers the recommendations and determines whether the applicant is to be registered Psychologist Psychotherapist Psychoanalyst Intern psychologist Any grammatical variation of these terms The Committee for review of applications will be composed of: The Registrar One registered Psychologist One member of the public An alternate registered Psychologist and an alternate member of the public will also be appointed to fill the place when the appointed person is unable to attend Quorum of the Committee will be met when the registered Psychologist and either the Registrar or the member of the public attends If satisfied the application and eligibility criteria are met, the Committee directs the Registrar to register the applicant and issue the license to the applicant. Code of Ethics N/A Both interns and must abide by the Canadian Psychological Association s Code of Ethics for Standards of Practice N/A Both interns and must abide by the College of Alberta Standards of Practice Discipline The Minister can (i) remove the person from the register permanently or for a period of time; (ii) Suspend or cancel the person s license to practice if the person is guilty of gross negligence, incompetence or improper conduct and it is in the public interest to do so Part 4 Review of Conduct. After an investigation, an Inquiry Panel holds a hearing and may find the person guilty of unprofessional conduct. Sanctions range from a reprimand, to treatment/supervision, to suspension or cancellation of the person s license, or prohibiting the person from applying for a new license (HSSPA, section 48). 5 Appeal Offences A person denied a license; issued a license with conditions; removed from registration; or whose license is suspended or cancelled can appeal to the Supreme Court of the Northwest Territories within 30 days. Offences are: use a protected title unless they hold a license under the Act contravene the conditions or restrictions on their licence practice psychology when he or she does not have a license under the Act Subject to a fine of $5000 or up to one year in jail, or both Part 4 Review of Conduct. An order for a sanction from an Inquiry Panel can appeal to the Supreme Court of the Northwest Territories within 30 days of receiving the Inquiry Panel s decision. Part 6 General.
