1 VCE Health and Human Development Written examination End of year Examination specifications Overall conditions The examination will be sat at a time and date to be set annually by the Victorian Curriculum and Assessment Authority (VCAA). There will be 15 minutes reading time and 2 hours writing time. VCAA examination rules will apply. Details of these rules are published annually in the VCE and VCAL Administrative Handbook. The examination will be marked by a panel appointed by the VCAA. The examination will contribute 50 per cent to the study score. Content The VCE Health and Human Development Study Design is the document for the development of the examination. All outcomes in Units 3 and 4 will be examined. All of the key knowledge and skills that underpin the outcomes in Units 3 and 4 are examinable. Format The examination will be presented in a question and answer book. The examination will consist of an appropriate balance of short-answer, multiple-part and extended-response questions. All of the questions in the examination will be compulsory. The examination will be worth a total of 100 marks. Advice During the accreditation period for VCE Health and Human Development, examinations will be prepared according to the examination specifications above. Each examination will conform to these specifications and will test a representative sample of the key knowledge and skills. A sample examination has been supplied as there have been changes in the content and format of the study design and the examination. Teachers and students, in preparation for the examination, should use the sample examination as a guide. The marks allocated to individual questions may vary from year to year. Each question will be followed by lined spaces that will provide a guide to the length of the written response anticipated. Further guidance will be provided by the number of marks allocated to each question, which will be clearly stated next to each question. The VCAA does not publish answers to sample examinations. Using examples from the program described in part b., discuss the interrelationship between health, human development and sustainability. 6 marks Question 9 (10 marks) VicHealth s Food for All program is designed to increase regular access to, and consumption of, a variety of food (particularly fruit and vegetables) by people living in disadvantaged communities. VicHealth believes that local governments are best placed to develop relevant, integrated and long-standing strategies to tackle food insecurity. Funding is provided to local governments with 20 per cent or more of its population living in disadvantaged neighbourhoods. Local governments are encouraged to work with local charities and community-based health workers to improve planning for those things that influence access to food, such as ease of shopping close to where people live and easy ability to transport food to housing areas, and to provide culturally relevant education to help newly arrived families recognise healthy food, teach them how to prepare food that is unfamiliar to them and provide help with budgeting. Ethiopia ranks 36th in the world in under-five mortality rates, with a rate of 77 per 1000, and has an infant mortality rate of 52 per Ethiopians have a life expectancy of 59 years. Thirty-nine per cent of the population survives on less than the international poverty line of $US25 per day. Children in Ethiopia are orphaned as a result of HIV/AIDS. This has increased the number of child-only-household families and the burden on the elderly, particularly the grandparents and the community. Ethiopia has a significant HIV/AIDS-infected population, contributing to very high adult mortality. Access to basic and quality education and educational materials in Ethiopia is generally inadequate. Female enrolment/attendance compared to males is low. The total adult literacy rate is 39 per cent. Children in Ethiopia die from childhood diseases that could easily be prevented through immunisation and basic health services. Access to clean water and sanitation facilities is inadequate. Malnutrition affects a large proportion of the population. Children, in particular, are highly affected by malnutrition.
