3 Porto Maravilha Wonder Port The Porto Maravilha Project aims to revitalize the port zone of, making it a center of tourism and attraction of investments. The process of revitalization, expected to be completed in 2015, encompasses infrastructure (with renewal and improvements of part of the transport system and urbanization); housing (with improvements in housing conditions to increase the number of inhabitants in the region); environment (with planting of trees on sidewalks and new parks); and culture and tourism (with deployment and restoration of cultural artifacts). The project was divided into two phases: the first, the responsibility of city hall of, which initially would cost US$ million, included urbanization projects and the construction of the Museum of Tomorrow. 5 COMPERJ Initially, the Comperj project was for a refinery geared toward the production of basic petrochemical products from heavy oil from the Campos Basin (RJ). However, the project underwent drafting changes in order to take advantage of the production of oil and natural gas form the pre-salt reserves in the Santos Basin. The new design envisages refineries to blend medium and light oil, with increased processing capacity for fuel production to meet the growing demand for these products. In addition, the petrochemical part, which before would have heavy oil as a raw material, will process natural gas. According to the company s calculations, this change may bring about a reduction of 15% to 30% in the project s costs. Comperj production will be intended for the domestic market, improving the supply of fuels derived from petroleum (produced by the refining units), as well as meeting the needs of industries that use basic petrochemical inputs, thermoplastic resins and other intermediate consumers of plastic products.
