1 Use the essay rubric to evaluate the following essays. We see texting happening all around us today. Write an essay analyzing the significance of texting today. In your essay, evaluate the pros and cons of texting. Use your knowledge, observations, and experience. Essay 1 Texting really is everywhere today. One good thing about texting is that people can get messages immediately. Another positive thing about texting is that text messages can be sent quickly and easily. A negative thing about texting is that it interrupts our lives. These are some of the main points about texting today. Texting lets people get messages immediately. What is so good about getting immediate messages? People can get their messages instead of waiting until they can talk on the phone or check their s. This is great for someone like me who works a very busy schedule. For example, my family texts me when they need something. I can check the text messages during my day and respond quickly during my breaks. I cannot always check s and voice mails as easily as I can check text messages. Texting helps me manage my very busy life. Text messages are so easy and quick to send. I love to use them when I am not able to or make a phone call. I use them to tell my son if I want him to pick up something at the store. I also use text messages when I am shopping. One time, I found a great jacket for my sister. I took a picture of it and sent the picture with a text message to see if my sister wanted the jacket. Using or the phone would have taken so much more time. I am a busy mother who works full time. It is important for me to use my time wisely. Texting helps me do this. How can something so good also be bad? Texting is great, but it has a bad side. Texting can interrupt our lives. I get text messages throughout the day. If I stop every time a text message comes in, I might not get something important done. Also, I might interrupt someone I am trying to visit. My phone vibrates when I get a text. I always want to read the text right away. If I can t, I wonder if it was important. Just worrying about a text can distract me. In summary, texting is all around us with its good and its bad. Texting helps people get messages immediately and helps us do things that we can t wait to do. Text messages also can be sent quickly and easily to help us manage our time. Sadly, texting can interrupt our lives if we fail to control it. These are some of the significant points about texting today.

2 Essay 2 Texting has good and bad points. I think we should be able to text any time because texting does not bother people. Some people just don t understand texting. If people give texting a try, they will like it. We can text any time. This is good. My friends always text me any time. I like getting their texts any time they send them. This makes texting a good thing. My mother says the texting bothers her at the dinner table. Sometimes she yells at me to stop texting. I think I can eat dinner and text at the same time. I am good at doing lots of things at once. If she would just text, she would understand. Once people try texting, they will like it. It is easy. It is fast. It is cool. I think that everybody will text and we will not need things like any more. Texting is mostly a good thing. If we all text, then we all will understand that it is a good thing. Lots of my friends text and they feel the same way too. We all feel that texting is significant. Essay 3 Texting is here to stay! Everybody needs to get over the fact that texting can be a problem. It is only a problem when people make bad choices with it. Texting is a positive choice in my life. People need to stop saying texting is bad. It is not bad. This is because texting is a good thing. How can something so good be bad? I use texting all the time in my life. My friends use it too. It seems like mostly older people do not like texting. If they would use it, they would love it because it is so good. I think that People s choices give texting a bad name. For example, when I was in high school, I used to text all the time in class. I didn t care if I got caught. School was really boring. I needed something to do. I also didn t feel good about being in school because I was failing so many classes. When a student feels this bad, it is hard to focus on making good choices. This is how I made bad choices with texting. When I am lonely, I always text my friends. Right away, I get messages back. This is a good thing. It makes me feel less lonely. I think I get lonely because I do not see my family much. They got angry at me for making bad choices in life. This is why my friends are so important. I am trying to turn my life around now. I am getting a GED. I am also looking for a job. I will make a better life for us. If I choose to text, I think it is a good thing. I keep my friends close to me with texting. This helps me stay positive. People need to make good choices in life. This keeps them on track and positive. Texting is a choice. You can keep it positive or negative. You choose. Essay 4 Texting is my favorite thing to do. It can be a bad thing and a good thing. Texting can be tough to control. I get hundreds of text messages each day. Sometimes, it drives me crazy. I don t know how to control it though. I am glad I got a plan that has unlimited texting. I used to spend a lot of money on my cell phone bill

3 because of all the text messages. I would tell people to stop texting me so much. Most people did not listen to me. They texted me more and more. I even had to change my phone number one time to stop some people from texting me. Everyone I know enjoys reading texts. I do too. I feel relaxed when I read my text messages. Mostly, my close friends send me text messages. I think it is pretty cool when my friends text me their good news. I feel special getting the news so quickly by text. Most of the time, the messages I get are cool. Sometimes the messages are not so cool. For example, my sister sends me texts about her boyfriend problems. This causes problems because I get upset when I see my sister hurt. I have gotten into a couple of fights with her boyfriend because of these texts. People with too much drama need to just chill and think before they text. Driving and texting are a really bad mix. People die because of driving and texting they don t know how dangerous it is. This is a real negative for texting. Texting can actually get a person killed!!! One time, a friend of mine got into a car wreck from texting and driving. She was really sorry but had to pay some fines and stuff. She didn t learn her lesson cause she still texts when she drives. Essay 5 There are pro and con arguments about texting and there is not usually a lot of agreement on what people think for texting i think my family should text more tho and that would solve lots of problems. i hafta get my own text plan tho cause it isn t fair that i should pay for text that other people send. Cause i wanna text a lot. i believe texting is a good thing cause that is good for me. If people wanna text a lot sometimes it can be problem specially when folks don t like the texting like at my mom s house where she don t like texting during meals and when she is trying to talk with us. i wanna talk with her but there ain t no respect about the texting cause sometimes i get important texts an plus i can listen to her and text the same time. People who text an drive are crazy that s just wrong for someone to do you never know when an accident can happen an texting and driving is gonna cause some major damage! 1.
