12 In Summary: Nurse educators are nurses trained at the master s or doctoral level. Nurse educators focus on the educational development of current and future nurses. Nurse educators have their own scope and standards of practice and in addition, must meet and then exceed the scope and standards of registered nurses. Nurse educators enjoy developing the skills of peers and have a desire to teach. Nurse educators practice in a variety of settings depending upon their area of expertise. Nurse educators measure their success in the on-going growth and development of the nursing profession.

13 Conclusion Teaching is not a natural byproduct of clinical expertise, but requires a skill set of its own...the desire to learn to teach, born of a love of both clinical nursing and teaching cannot be achieved alone. (Cangelosi, Crocker, &Sorrell, 2009, p.371)
