3 Section B (20 marks) Read the passage and answer all the questions. The Fennec Fox There are 12 different species of fox in the world. Red foxes are the most common in Europe and America. In North Africa and Asia, fennec foxes are more common. Fennec foxes are sometimes called desert foxes. They are nocturnal. This means they are awake and hunt at night, when it s cooler. The fennec is the smallest fox in the world, and is about 20 cm tall. Most foxes have big ears to hear well but the fennec has enormous ears. They are about 10 cm long and they help the fox to keep cool. Their fur is long and thick and brown. The fennec has fur under its feet. This means it can walk on hot sand. Fennec foxes live in groups of 10 to 15. They eat plants, insects and small animals like mice. They don t need to drink water. The water they need comes from plants and berries. The biggest problem for the fennec is humans. People catch them and keep them as pets. People also frequently kill the foxes because of their fur. It is very soft and people use it to make coats.
