Bible Passage: Genesis 25:19-26; 26:1-6; 28: :45 4:00 Check-In / Playtime One teacher take control of sign-in: Place the Check-In Sticker on Clipboard. If manually sign-in, give the parent a nametag containing their phone number and their child s name. They will use this for checkout. One teacher lead orderly free play. 4:00 4:20 Coloring / Snack / Activity COLORING SHEET: Jacob s Ladder Have the kids color the sheet and ask them questions about the sheet. Say: How many angles are in the picture? Can you guess why God sent them? Today in our story, we will find out why. SNACK: Animal Crackers & Water Pray with the class before Snack. INTRO ACTIVITY: Heads Up Items Need: Nothing Select 3 children to come to the front of the room. Tell the remainder of the kids to Fall asleep. The children who are not selected then put their heads down, and close their eyes. The children who are chosen circulate the room and tap one child each before returning to front. Tell the children to Wake Up. The children open their eyes while the children who were chosen stand up. Each in turn names the person they think tapped them. If they are correct, they sit down and the winning child takes their place. Say: When Jacob was asleep, God reminded him that He had chosen Abraham s family and had very special plans for them. Items Needed: Ladder, Angel, Glue Sticks Unfold the ladder. Have the Kids Color the Ladder and the angel. Assist in folding the sides of the Ladder on the dotted lines so that it stands up on its own. Help the kids glue the angel on the ladder. (Assist as needed) Say: God reminded Abraham s family of his promises by making Jacob dream of a stairway with angles going up and down. Many years later, Jesus was born into Abraham s family. God kept His promise to bless all people through Abraham. Form a circle. Whisper a short message to the child closest to you. He will then whisper the message to the child beside him. Continue until the message has been passed around the circle. The last child to hear the message will say aloud what she heard. Play again starting at a different place in the circle. Key Passage: Romans 4:3 Video Verbatim: The Promise Reaffirmed God had a wonderful plan. God chose Abraham and his family to be a special family that would bless the whole world. God told Abraham about His plan. God promised that Abraham would have so many descendants children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren that nobody could count them all. They would become a great nation. A nation of people needs land to live on, so God promised that the land Abraham moved to would belong to his descendants. And God promised that people everywhere in the world would know Abraham s name and be blessed because of him. Abraham probably told his son Isaac and his grandson Jacob what God promised their family. But God Himself told Isaac and Jacob these promises too. God made the same promises to Isaac and Jacob. They did not have to guess what God would do. God spoke to Isaac during a time when there was no rain and food did not grow. God told Isaac not to move his tents and family to look for food in another place because the land where they were living would belong to his descendants someday. God had promised that same land to Isaac s father, Abraham. God said that Isaac would have as many descendants as there are stars in the sky. And people all over the world would be blessed by Isaac s descendants. God also made the promises to Isaac s son Jacob. Jacob was running away from home because he had tricked his brother Esau, and Esau was very angry with him. When night came, Jacob lay down on the ground. He used a rock for a pillow. Jacob fell asleep and dreamed of a giant stairway reaching from earth to heaven. Angels moved up and down the stairway. Jacob saw God standing there, and God promised Jacob the same things that He promised Abraham and Isaac. God promised to be with Jacob. I am with you and will watch over you wherever you go, He said. Early the next morning, Jacob set up the stone that was near his head to remember where God had spoken to him. He poured oil on top of it and named the place Bethel. Jacob said, If God will be with me and watch over me on this journey, then the Lord will be my God. Christ Connection: God had a very good plan for Abraham and his family. The plan was for Abraham s children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, too! Many years later, a baby boy named Jesus was born into Abraham s family.
