Inserting Text: This is the very basis of a word processor that allows you to insert text anywhere in 31

3 the document. 2. Deleting Text: It allows you to remove characters, words, lines, or pages at the same ease that you would cross them out on paper. 3. Copy/Cut and Paste: This feature allows you to make a duplicate (Copy) or move (Cut) a section of text from one place of a document to another (Paste). 3. State the significance of a Document area in OpenOffice Writer window. Ans. The white rectangular area at the middle of the window is the document area, where you can type a document, edit or format it. The blinking vertical line in the upper left corner of the document area is the cursor. 4. What is Ruler in the Writer window? Also state the units of measurement that you can do with the ruler. Ans. Vertical and Horizontal ruler is used to adjust page margins, tab stops, indents, borders, table cells and to arrange objects on the page. 5. What do you understand by the term View Layouts? Ans. It is used to change the layout view of the document to single page, side-by-side and book layout views. You can edit the document in either of the views. 6. Font on the other hand is a specific form of typeface and is a typeface of one size and style. 9. What is the significance of the Undo and Redo feature in Writer? Ans. The Undo feature of Writer is used to reverse the last action in Writer on the other hand Redo feature of Writer is used to repeat the last action performed. 10. Click on the Font Color drop-down list found in the Formatting Toolbar. 3. Choose the desired font colour according to your choice from the Font Color dialog box. 11. It is also possible to create a negative indent (also known as an out dent), which pulls the paragraph outward toward the left margin. You can prefer to create a hanging indent, where the first line of the paragraph is not indented, but subsequent lines are. 16. What are the different possible line spacing in Writer? Ans. The different possible line spacing in Writer are: Single 1.5 Lines Double Proportional At Least Leading Fixed 17. State the steps involved in changing the page margin using the rulers. 33

5 Ans. To change margins using the page rulers: 1. The gray sections of the rulers indicate the margins of the ruler. Put the mouse pointer over the line between the gray and white sections. The pointer turns into a double headed arrow. 2. Now click and drag the mouse to move the margin. E. Application based questions: 1. Mr Rashid while typing a document, usually have the habit of using the Save Button on the Standard Toolbar to store the document. One day while working suddenly he does not find the Save Button. Suggest the method to Mr. Rashid so that he can again use the Save Button. Ans. To view the Standard Toolbar click the following option from the menu bar click on View- >Toolbars->Standard 2. Mrs Sujata has created a test on her students of class 3 on prepositions in OpenOffice Writer. She had created a paragraph as shown below: Fill in the blanks with given suitable preposition: 1. Mrs Sujata needs to increase the line spacing of the paragraph. To increase the line spacing of the paragraph the following steps are involved: 1. Bring the cursor to the paragraph whose indentation you need to change. 2. Click on Format menu and select the Paragraph option. 3. This in turn will display the Paragraph dialog box. Now click on Indents & Spacing Tab if not selected. 4. From the Line Spacing drop down list select double to double the space between the lines. 3. Miss Tripti a personal assistant at Zimole Corporation Pvt. Ltd. had typed in a correspondence as specified by her boss. But she was in a hurry and had typed the entire letter in capital letters. Help her in starting the method of converting the letter to lower case, with the first alphabet of a sentence in capital, without retyping the entire letter. Ans. Miss Tripti should convert the entire text to Sentence Case in case she do not want to retype the entire text, this is because it is the only case that has the ability to capitalize the first letter of the first word in every sentence in the selected text. To change the case of the text the following steps are involved: 1. Select the entire text of the document by pressing Ctrl+A. 2. From the menu bar click on Format->Change Case->Sentence Case. 34

Suzane was typing in a Chemistry Project on her she had a chemical equation on reaction of Potassium Permanganate and Hydrochloric Acid in the following way: 2 KMnO HCI = 2 KCI + 2 Mn C H2O + 5 C12 Which actually should have been written as: 2 KMnO HCI = 2 KCI + 2 Mn C H 2 O + 5 C1 2 Suggest a method through which she will be able to change the equation. Ans. The problem is with the subscripts which is not implemented by Suzane and is therefore shown in a straight line. She needs to select those text which should be in subscript and click on the Subscript button from the Standard Toolbar. 35
