Dear Student, Welcome to the Global University family! Boys and girls in many countries are studying these same lessons. So are many of their parents and older brothers and sisters. Why? Because they all like to read about these great men and women who lived long ago. And because it is fun to look at the pictures and to do the things that you are asked to do in each lesson. Most of all you will like these lessons because of what you will learn about God. God loved the people you will read about. He did many wonderful things for them. You will see how God loves you too and does wonderful things for you. The lessons are easy to understand. They are about people that you can read about in the Bible. The verses from the Bible in these lessons are from the translations that are easiest to understand. A Student Record is included in the back of this book. 4

After you study each lesson in God Loves You, go to your Student Record. Do what it tells you to do for that lesson. Your Student Record tells you how you can receive a beautiful certificate. If you are studying in a class, the teacher will tell you what to do. Your whole family may want to study this book. In your Student Record is a part called Fun-to-Do. There is something there for everyone: children, young people, and adults. Just do the part you like in the section Fun-to-Do. If several are going to use this book, write your answers on paper instead of in the book. If you have any questions about the lessons, write them down. Eve knew that she should obey God. But she listened to the devil s lie. Eve ate some of the fruit that God had told her not to eat. Eve gave some to Adam, and he ate it too. Both Adam and Eve sinned. Then something terrible happened! Sin separated Adam and Eve from God. Adam and Eve had always loved God, but now they were afraid of Him. They knew they had done wrong. They tried to hide from God. 32 God wants to save people. After Enoch went to heaven, the people got worse and worse. They did bad things all the time. Noah and his family were the only good people left in all the world. God made Noah His helper. God told Noah: Build a boat. I am going to send a flood. The people in the boat will be saved. God loved the people and wanted to save them. He had Noah tell the people about the flood. Only Noah s family believed what Noah told them. Noah s wife and three sons and their wives believed God and helped Noah get the boat ready. God and Noah took care of the animals. It rained for forty days. Then God sent a great wind to dry up the earth. The waters began to go down. The ark settled down on top of a mountain and stayed there. 35

Noah and his family stayed in the ark until the land was dry. They stayed in the ark for a whole year. God took care of them in the ark. Finally the earth was dry. Noah opened the door. Everyone came out of the ark into the sunshine, Noah and his family, all the animals and birds. The elephants trumpeted for joy. The monkeys chattered louder than before. The lions roared and chased their tails. Everyone was glad to be safe and out of the ark. Think about this: Have you ever been afraid in a storm? Who was there to take care of you? Who helped Noah save his family and the animals? Who will help your parents take care of you? Who makes the food grow so that you can eat it? They did not want to listen to their parents, to their grandparents, or to God. A man named Nimrod made himself king. He wanted people to obey him not God. Nimrod led the people away from God. He taught them to pray to the sun and the moon and to make their own gods. The people made bricks to build a city and a high tower. 39

God saw what the people were doing. He knew that they were doing wrong. God let the people have their own way for a while. Then God stopped them. God didn t send another flood. He just made the people talk in different languages. The people could not talk together. They could not understand one another. They could not work together. So they stopped building the tower. They called the place Babel. Babel means confusion. The people left Nimrod and Babel. They went in every direction. Families lived together, then groups of families. They built their own cities. They forgot about the one true God. Wherever the people lived, they made their own gods: big gods and little gods, gods of wood and stone, gods of silver and gold. They prayed to the gods they had made. 40

The Lord is the one true God. The gods the people had made could not hear. The gods they had made could not speak. They could not see. They could not love the people like the true God did. They were not real, true gods. The Lord is the only true God. He hears and speaks and sees. The people had forgotten the true God. But God had not forgotten them. To do as you read and study this lesson Ask God to help you understand what you are reading. Think about the meaning of each underlined sentence. God called Abram to follow Him. Some of the families who left Babel built the city of Ur. Abram was born in Ur. Abram s father prayed to many gods. Abram s people prayed to many gods gods that could not see or hear. They did not know the one true God. They did not have the Bible to tell them about the one true God. Abram didn t know the true God. But God knew Abram and loved him. God called Abram and told him: Leave your home and country. Leave your father s gods. Follow me to the land I will show you. 43

God leads and blesses those who follow Him. God promised Abram: If you follow me, I will bless you and make you great. I will make you the father of a great nation. I will bless you and you will be a blessing. Abram knew that the one true God had called him. Abram believed what God had told him. Abram s wife, Sarai, believed God s promise too. Abram and Sarai left the city of Ur. They left the gods that people had made. They followed the one true God. Abram and God were good friends. Abram talked with God. God talked with Abram. God went with Abram and showed him which road to take. God led Abram to the land of Canaan. Wherever Abram and Sarai lived, Abram built an altar to God. He offered sacrifices to God like Abel, Enoch, and Noah had done. Abram was a blessing, or help, to many people. He told them about the true and living God. 44

God always does what He promises to do. God blessed Abram and made him rich. But Abram became old and still had no children. Still he believed God s promise. And God was happy because Abram believed Him. God changed Abram s name to Abraham. Abraham means father of many. God changed Sarai s name to Sarah. Sarah means mother of princes. God gave Abraham and Sarah a son called Isaac. And a great nation came from him. God leads you by His book the Bible. In the Bible God calls you to follow Him. He promises to lead you and bless you. 46 Lesson 11 GOD SENT HIS LAMB TO SAVE YOU Learn this about God: God sent a lamb to save Isaac. God sent His Lamb to save you. You must accept God s Lamb to be saved. These words are from the Bible. Read them aloud 5 times. Isaac said... Here are the fire and the wood; but where is the Iamb for the burnt offering? Abraham answered, My son, God will provide Himself the lamb. Genesis 22:7, 8 (BV) The next day John saw Jesus coming to him and said: Here is the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world! John 1:29 (TEV) Can you do this? Write the answer to each question. 1. Who said, Where is the lamb? Who said, God will provide the lamb? Who said, Here is the Lamb of God?... 46

Answers: 1. Isaac said, Where is the lamb? 2. Abraham said, God will provide the lamb. 3. John said, Here is the Lamb of God! Words for you to learn Sacrifice for sin means an animal or person that takes the punishment for the person who has done wrong. A burnt offering is a sacrifice that was killed and then burned on an altar. An altar is a place where a sacrifice was offered. Many altars were made of a heap of stones. Hell is a terrible place where people who sin (who don t love and obey God) will live after they die. To do as you read and study this lesson Ask God to help you understand what you are reading. Think about the meaning of each underlined sentence. God sent a lamb to save Isaac. One day God said to Abraham: Take your son Isaac. Go to the mountain. Sacrifice Isaac to me. Abraham did not know why God told him to do this. Abraham did not know that God was testing his love. And God was going to teach Abraham and Isaac. God was going to teach us too about His sacrifice for sin. 47

Abraham went sadly up the mountain. Abraham loved Isaac. But Abraham was going to obey God. Isaac helped carry the wood. Isaac asked: Where is the lamb for the burnt-offering? Abraham answered: God will provide Himself the lamb. Abraham and Isaac built an altar. Abraham put Isaac on the altar. Isaac was going to have to die. But God loved Isaac too. God did not want Isaac to die. God had another sacrifice that would die in Isaac s place. Abraham lifted his knife to kill Isaac. But just then God called to Abraham from heaven. Abraham! Stop! Don t hurt your son! Now you have proved that you love me! Then God showed Abraham a sheep caught in the bushes. God had sent the sheep to take Isaac s place. The sheep died on the altar. Isaac was free and could live. 48

God sent His Son Jesus to save you. People who sin cannot go to heaven. When they die, they go to hell a terrible place. We have all sinned and were going to hell. But God loved us and wanted to take us to heaven. God sent His Son Jesus to die in our place, as He sent the sheep to die in Isaac s place. Jesus is the Lamb of God who died to take away the sins of the world. Afterwards He came back to life again. You can t see Jesus, but He is right there. Jesus loves you and wants to help you. You must accept God s Son to be saved. You don t have to offer a sacrifice on an altar now. You must just accept God s Son as your sacrifice. Jesus will be your Savior the one who saves you. Jesus will take your sins away. Take Jesus as your Savior and you can go to heaven. Use this prayer. Then talk to God in your own words. Prayer I now accept Your Son who died for me A sacrifice to take my sins away. With Jesus as my Savior, now I m free. I thank You, God, for saving me today. 50 Lesson 12 GOD WILL FORGIVE YOU AND HELP YOU Learn this about God: God s blessing is worth more than food. God forgives and blesses Jacob. God has made a way for you to go to heaven. God will help you say, I m sorry. These words are from the Bible. Read them aloud 5 times. I am the Lord.... I am with you and I will watch over you wherever you go. Genesis 28:13, 15 (BV) Jesus answered him: I am the way. John 14:6 (TEV) Can you do this? Some of these questions are over past lessons. Answer as many of them as you can. 1. Who went to heaven without dying? Who built the ark? Who killed his brother? What is worth more than food?... 50

Answers: 1. Enoch 2. Noah 3. Cain 4. God s blessing To do as you read and study this lesson Ask God to help you understand what you are reading. Think about the meaning of each underlined sentence. God s blessing is worth more than food. Isaac s wife was Rebecca. Isaac and Rebecca loved God. God gave them twin sons: Esau and Jacob. Esau was a hunter. Esau was born before Jacob. He had the right to receive a special blessing from God. This was the birthright of the oldest son. But Esau was more interested in food than in special blessings from God. Esau did not love God. He just loved himself. Esau sold his birthright to Jacob for a bowl of stew. Later Esau was sorry he had sold God s blessing (his birthright). God s blessing is worth more than all the food there is. God forgives and blesses Jacob. Jacob did some very bad things to his family. He lied to his father and cheated his brother. He bought Esau s birthright and stole his blessing. But God loved Jacob anyway. 51

Esau wanted to kill Jacob. Jacob had to go far away from home to escape from Esau. On the way God spoke to Jacob in a dream. Jacob saw a ladder that reached from earth to heaven. God promised to bless Jacob. When Jacob woke up, he was happy. God still loved him. God would forgive him for the bad things he had done. God would go with him and help him do right. Jacob knew that if he followed God, God would take him to heaven some day. God has made a way for you to go to heaven. Jesus is the way to heaven. Jesus died to save you. Follow Jesus all your life, and He will take you to heaven. God took care of Jacob. Jacob became a shepherd. He had many sheep and goats. God gave Jacob a family too. 52

God helps Jacob say, I m sorry. Finally God told Jacob to go back home. But Esau still wanted to kill Jacob. Esau came out with 400 men to meet Jacob. Jacob was sorry for what he had done to Esau. Jacob wanted his brother to forgive him. Jacob prayed to God for help. God forgave Jacob and named him Israel. God helped Jacob show Esau he was sorry. God helped Esau forgive Jacob. Then the brothers were good friends again. God will help you say, I m sorry. Do you ever feel sad because you have been bad? Maybe you have treated someone wrong. You want God to forgive you and bless you. You must tell God you are sorry. But you must say, I m sorry, to the person you have hurt too. God will forgive you and help you. He will help you be friends again with others. Memorize this Prayer The wrongs that I have done to others Please forgive me, Lord, I pray. Help me tell them, I am sorry. Make us friends again today. 54 Lesson 13 GOD WILL BE WITH YOU Learn this about God: Some people try to hurt those who love God. God will be with you wherever you are. God will work everything out for your good. God will help you forgive those who hurt you. These words are from the Bible. Read them aloud 5 times. Joseph s master... put him in the prison.... But the Lord was with Joseph. Genesis 39:20, 21 Joseph said... You planned evil against me, but God planned it for good. Genesis 50:19, 20 (BV) Can you do this? Draw a circle around the right answer. 1. Who was put into prison? Isaac Joseph Jacob 2. Who was in prison with him? Jacob Isaac God 3. What will God help you do to the people who hurt you? forgive them hurt them 4. Who works things out for your good? you God 54

Answers: 1. Joseph 2. God 3. forgive 4. God To do as you read and study this lesson Ask God to help you understand what you are reading. Think about the meaning of each underlined sentence. Joseph s brothers try to hurt him. Joseph was one of Jacob s twelve sons. Jacob loved Joseph. He gave Joseph a beautiful coat. This made his brothers jealous. They hated Joseph. God loved Joseph and talked with him. God showed Joseph in dreams that he would be a great ruler. Joseph believed what God told him. He told his dreams to his brothers. This made the brothers hate Joseph more. Joseph s brothers planned to kill him. They put him in a pit. They sold him as a slave instead. Then they made Jacob believe that a wild beast had killed Joseph. God is with Joseph. The men who bought Joseph took him far away. They sold him as a slave to Potiphar. But God was with Joseph in Potiphar s house. God helped him do all his work just right. God was pleased with Joseph. So was Potiphar. 55

Potiphar s wife tried to make Joseph sin. Joseph would not sin. He loved God. Potiphar s wife told lies about Joseph. Potiphar put Joseph in jail. But God was still with Joseph. God works everything out for good. One day the king sent for Joseph. God had spoken to the king in a dream. But the king did not understand what it meant. God told Joseph what the dream meant. There would be seven years of good crops, then seven years of hunger no crops. Joseph told the king what the dream meant. The king made Joseph governor. The seven years of plenty came. Joseph stored up the extra food. The seven years of hunger came. People came to Joseph for food. God helped Joseph save many lives. God helps Joseph forgive his brothers. Joseph s brothers came for food. God had helped Joseph forgive the bad things they had done to him. Joseph gave them food and a good place to live. He loved them. God worked everything out for good. Whatever happens to you, keep on loving God and praying to Him. Forgive the people who hurt you. God will work everything out for you. 56

You have learned many things in these lessons. You have learned how God loves you. You have learned that God is great and good. God made you and wants you to be His child. God is good and wants His children to be good. God wants you to be kind to other people. God sent His Lamb, Jesus, to die for your sins. God wants to forgive you and bless you. God wants you to live in heaven with Him. God will take care of you anywhere. God wants you to pray to Him and not to other gods. God wants you to follow Him. God always tells the truth. If you love God and obey Him, He will make everything come out all right. May God bless you as you walk and talk with Him each day. Prayer I know that You speak to me, God, through the Bible. You took care of Joseph. You blessed Abraham. You walked and You talked with Adam and Noah. You love me. You re with me wherever I am. You ve forgiven my sins like You once did for Jacob. Like Isaac, I m saved by the death of Your Lamb. You ll take me, like Enoch, to live up in heaven. I m your child. I will love You wherever I am. Now fill in your Student Record for Lesson

God is three Persons in one God the Father, Jesus the Son, and the Holy Spirit. If one is with you, all three are with you. Jesus became a man to help us know God. Jesus mother was a good woman named Mary. Mary s husband was named Joseph. But Joseph wasn t Jesus father. Jesus Father was God. When Jesus was born, angels sang praise to God. They told some shepherds the Savior was born. The shepherds were happy when they found Jesus. God had sent His Son to be their Savior. God had come to be with the people in His Son. 59

When Jesus grew up, He told people about God. He showed them what God wants to do for people. He touched blind people and made them see. He healed the sick, the crippled, the deaf. He made sad people happy and bad people good. He even brought dead people back to life. He did everything God told Him to do. Jesus died on a cross to save us from sin.
