1 Thank you for your interest in becoming an instructor for the Illinois Virtual School. This document will provide you with the information and process needed to become an instructor with IVS. Illinois Virtual School (IVS) is currently seeking instructors for: Spanish Requirements for Instructors IVS hires only highly qualified teachers certified in the state of Illinois. To be considered for a position as an instructor at IVS, you must meet the following requirements: hold a current, active Illinois Teaching Certificate for the appropriate grade level and subject for the position for which you are applying; and have reliable daily access to the Internet and a computer with Windows XP, Windows 7, or Mac OS X, as well as a headset for web meetings. Online experience is preferred, either as an instructor or student. More information about Illinois Certification and earning Highly Qualified Status can be found on the Illinois State Board of Education website: Instructor Application Process In order to be selected to be part of the Illinois Virtual School Instructor pool, the candidate must successfully complete the following five steps. Please note, at anytime during the process, both IVS and the applicant can determine whether the applicant will move on to the next step. 1) Submit a completed application 2) Participate in an initial interview with IVS Director of Operations 3) Participate in second interview that includes the IVS Director Operations, a department member and the Coordinator of Curriculum 4) Complete IVS Pre-Service Course that introduces IVS learning management system and student information system 5) Participate in Strategic Teaching for Online Learning (STOL) webinars focused on online pedagogy The first step is to submit a completed application including a letter of introduction, resume or vitae, official transcripts for all degrees, and a copy of your Illinois teaching certificate. After reviewing applications, the IVS administration will contact selected applicants to set appointments for a phone interview. If the applicant meets the administration requirements, a second interview will be conducted with a member of the department and the Curriculum Director.

2 Successful applicants will then be asked to participate in the IVS Pre-Service Course, which will introduce prospective instructors to the learning management system (Desire2Learn) and student information system (Maestro) used by Illinois Virtual School. This online course will be guided by a facilitator with completion of course objectives by due dates. The final step is to participate in interactive webinars focused on successful teaching and learning practices in an online environment. These webinars will provide educators with online learning from a student s perspective and allow students as teachers to develop and implement successful strategies for online teaching. Completing these steps will qualify the candidate to be part of the Instructor pool, but it does not guarantee a teaching position.
