2 Why PSN? There is a plethora of public sector telecommunications networks As a result: There is a lack of standardisation and variance in costs Interoperability between organisations and sites and therefore businesses can be constrained and inflexible There is duplication of networks and services across the public sector The underlying principles of the Public Services Network (PSN) initiative are: Substantially reduce or eliminate duplicated procurements and expenditure on network and associated services (c 2.5bn per annum) Significantly improve ability to share services and information Establish a more unified market aligned to wider market investments Generate competition and innovation in the provision of public sector telecoms

Local authorities Blue light services Accredited private sector Common Standards Technical standards improves interoperability over the same underlying infrastructure Information Assurance standards enable us to trust one another to handle our data Service Management standards enable services to operate effectively within a multi-supplier environment Commercial standards enable us to operate within an open and transparent market place, adopt common portfolio products and services and aggregate demand Common infrastructure services Government departments Other public services By aligning to these common standards we can: Create a more unified market aligned to wider market investments Harness our corporate buying power Reduce procurement costs Share services and reduce duplication of infrastructure services and business systems Generate greater competition and innovation Save money

4 PSN is a reality All Central Government telecoms procurements must now align to PSN Health and Police are formally working towards making services and data available via PSN and exploring opportunities to exploit PSN at the local level Major telecommunications suppliers are actively establishing PSN offerings PSN national procurement frameworks PSN Connectivity framework operational and first competitions underway PSN Service framework to be operational in June 2012 Central and Local Government transition plans published Kent and Hampshire successfully piloted full PSN connectivity and shared voice and video services over PSN infrastructure

LAN, Internet, Remote Access Siemens Enterprise previously provided under the MTS framework Video - Conferencing and IP CCTV Virgin Media Business Better value than MTS Other - Directory, Professional Services, Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery, training Services will be interoperable with PSN and become PSN compliant services in due course GCF Available now Network - Connectivity to Government Secure Intranet (various Impact Levels), Internet and Managed Firewalls 2yrs (+1+1) Cable & Wireless Worldwide Provides unbundled GSi Services Better value than GSi Core - incl. peer to peer network connectivity, List Server, DNS Additional service options Data - Relay and Filtering, Mailbox Service, Secure File Transfer Service, Hosting & Application Services Services will be interoperable with PSN and become PSN compliant services Other - Professional Services, Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery, Training Services.
