1 Recipes4Success In this Recipe, you will learn the basics of using Excel. You will input planned expenses for a vacation. You will use the data to learn how long your vacation can last based on your budget. You will also create a pie chart of your daily expenses All Rights Reserved. 3 Page 3 of 50 Introduction Open Excel. Go to the Start menu, choose All Programs, choose Microsoft Office, and select Microsoft Office. Excel will open. You will see a new spreadsheet called Book1. Excel spreadsheets have columns and rows. Columns have letter labels and rows have number labels.

4 Page 4 of 50 Save a Spreadsheet Go to the File menu and choose Save As. Type: budget

5 Page 5 of 50 Click the Save button. Your spreadsheet is now saved. Add Headings You can add text to a spreadsheet. Click cell A1. Type: Vacation Planning

6 Page 6 of 50 This is the title of the spreadsheet. Click cell B2. Type: One Person Press the Tab key on the keyboard. This will move the cursor to the next column. Type: Four People

7 Page 7 of 50 Click cell A3. Type: Breakfast Press the Enter key on the keyboard. This will move the cursor to the next row. Type: Lunch

8 Page 8 of 50 Press the Enter key on the keyboard. Type: Dinner Press the Enter key on the keyboard. Type: Activities Press the Enter key on the keyboard. Type: Souvenirs Press the Enter key on the keyboard. Type: Hotel Press the Enter key on the keyboard. Type: Gas

9 Page 9 of 50 Format Text You can change the size and style of text. Click cell A1.

10 Page 10 of 50 Click the Bold button on the Formatting toolbar. Use the Size pull-down to change the size to 14.

11 Page 11 of 50 You will see the text change. Change Column Width You will notice that the text in several cells does not fit. It is easy to fix this by changing the width of the column. Click and drag from cell A1 to cell C9. This will select all of the cells that have text in them.

12 Page 12 of 50 Go to the Format menu, choose Column, and select AutoFit Selection. The cells are now resized to fit the text.

14 Page 14 of 50 Press the Enter key on the keyboard. Type: 5 Press the Enter key on the keyboard. Type: 8.5 Press the Enter key on the keyboard. Type: 10 Press the Enter key on the keyboard. Type: 10

16 Page 16 of 50 Press the Enter key on the keyboard. Type: 20 Create a Multiplication Formula You can figure out how much items will cost for four people by creating a multiplication formula. Click cell C3. Press the = key on the keyboard. This will begin a new formula.

18 Page 18 of 50 Press the * key on the keyboard. Type: 4

19 Page 19 of 50 Press the Enter key on the keyboard. You will see the result of the formula in cell C3. Use the Fill Function After you have made one formula, Excel can apply the same formula to other cells. Click cell C3.

20 Page 20 of 50 There will be a handle in the lower-right corner of the cell. Click and drag the handle to cell C7.

21 Page 21 of 50 Release the mouse button. You will see the results of your formula in each of the cells. Create a Division Formula You can figure out how much an item costs per person using a division formula. Click cell B8. Press the = key on the keyboard.

23 Page 23 of 50 Type: 4 Press the Enter key on the keyboard.

24 Page 24 of 50 You will see the result of the formula in cell B8. Use the skills you have learned to fill the formula into cell B9.

25 Page 25 of 50 Create an AutoSum Click cell A11. Type: Total You can add up the total amount spent each day. Click cell B11. Click the AutoSum button on the Standard toolbar. You will see a calculation displayed in cell B11.

27 Page 27 of 50 Click cell C11. Click the AutoSum button. You will see the calculation displayed in cell C11.

29 Page 29 of 50 Find the Length of the Trip Click A13. Type: Budget Press the Enter key on the keyboard.

32 Page 32 of 50 Press the Enter key on the keyboard. Press the = key on the keyboard. Click cell B13.

34 Page 34 of 50 Press the Enter key on the keyboard. You will see the number of days your vacation can last.

35 Page 35 of 50 Change the Data Format You can change the way the data is formatted in the cell. Click and drag from cell B3 to cell C11. The cells will be selected.

36 Page 36 of 50 Go to the Format menu and choose Cells. You will see the Format Cells dialog.

37 Page 37 of 50 Make sure you are looking at the Number tab. If you are not, click the Number tab. Click Currency in the Category list.

38 Page 38 of 50 Click the OK button. The numbers in the cells will now be in currency format.

39 Page 39 of 50 Click the Save button on the Standard toolbar. Create a Pie Chart You can show your data using a pie chart. Click cell A3 and drag the cursor to cell B9.

40 Page 40 of 50 Release the mouse button. Cells A3 through B9 will be selected. Go to the Insert menu and choose Chart. You will see the Chart Wizard dialog.

43 Page 43 of 50 Click the Next button. You will see the Chart Options step. Click the Titles tab. Click the Chart Title field.

45 Page 45 of 50 Click the Data Labels tab. Click the Percentage checkbox.

46 Page 46 of 50 Click the Next button. You will see the Chart Location step. Click the As new sheet radio button.

48 Page 48 of 50 Print You can print your chart. Go to the File menu and choose Print. You will see the Print dialog.

49 Page 49 of 50 Click the OK button. The chart will print. Change Worksheets There is a tab for each worksheet in your spreadsheet at the bottom of the window. Click Sheet1 to return to your main worksheet.

50 Page 50 of 50 Use the skills that you have learned to print the worksheet. Conclusion Click the Save button on the toolbar to save your finished spreadsheet. Go to the File menu and choose Exit. Congratulations! You have successfully created an Excel project with data, calculations, and a pie chart.
